If you would actually look into a thread about metal you would find that almost every one has pantera at least once. but all you look for is a thread named "Pantera RAWKS!"
Anyway Pantera is one of the most kickass metal bands of this time.

Yeah lots of ppl mention Pantera, R.I.P. Darrel Lance Abbot. Yeah there great, but I really dislike Phil Anselmo because of what he was saying about Damage Plan, and keeping his heroin addiction away from the rest of the band
Pantera fuckin rules. I had to honor of seeing them live in 2001. Slayer and Morbid Angel opened for them, best metal concert ever. I wish they would've stayed together, then maybe Dime would still be alive and we would have some new Pantera to listen to.
BTW-I heard that they're putting together a 4th DVD of behind-the-scenes and live footage. All the stuff they did between the 3rd DVD and the band's breakup will be on it, and I REALLY hope it's not just another bullshit rumor.

I think Pantera are a bit overrated, although cowboys from hell and vulgar display of power are good, the other two albums are a bit forgettable.

Hate to tell ya wrathchild (kickass song) but Pantera had 8 studio albums.
Metal Magic (1983)
I am the Night (1985)
Power Metal (1988)
CFH (1990)
Vulgar (1992)
Far Beyond Driven (1994)
Great Southern Trendkill (1996)
Reinventing the Steel (2000)
MiKe I envy you, I was just getting into Pantera for about a month, then on my bros birthday hes like, 'hey I just heard on the news that some guy from Pantera got shot'. Bummer for me.
If your a big fan and you want more Pantera I suggest you track down those first 3 albums.

i wasn't counting the first few power metal albums, and i thought Reinventing the Steel was a Greatest Hits album so I also discounted that.
I too was only just starting to get into Pantera around that time, which kinda sucked. A lot.

Same actually... For me, I was just getting into them about a month before Dimebag's death. It also sucks because, owing to the fact I'm 17, I get lumped in with the bunch of trendkids that like Pantera because Dimebag was shot when I got into them before his death.

Reinventing the Steel, a greatest hits? WTF? Where'd you get that from? That's an AWESOME album. BTW, their greatest hits album is called "Far Beyond The Great Southern Cowboys' Greatest Hits", clever title but a terrible album. They should make a box-set.
And their pre-CFH albums, most people don't even consider that Pantera. It's amazing how much they changed in the span of 2 years. From "Power Metal" to "Cowboys from Hell", it's like 2 completely different bands. Their earlier stuff really sucked, too 80's hair metal for me. From CFH on, they kicked ass.
Also, I can't believe the amount of Pantera noobs here! Everyone started listening to them either right before or right after Dime died, WTF? I've been listening to them since like '96. I wish I could've seen them more then once, but I got to see them and you didn't, so I'm happy:)

Sorry, I got confused between Reinventing the Steel and Reinventing Hell.
And i'm only 17 so if i got into Pantera in '96, I would have been 8 years old.

I was into Pantera \ Damageplan for about a year before Dimebag's death. Three days before he was shot I ordered a Washburn Dime 332 off of a music site. It's sitting right next to me right now. It's a shame we lost one of the most innovative guitarists of all time to a bullet.

if zakk wylde did axe duties for pantera, if they were to reform, itd still be a worthy show to see..
but i doubt thatd happen. rip dime.
^Yeah, I definately agree with that. If the remaining Pantera members were to come together for another tour or album, Zakk is the man to do it. He was pretty close with Pantera and Dime in particular, so he would definately have the heart for it, not to mention he's a monster on the guitar.

Vinnie doesn't want to be anywhere with Anselmo, they even told him not to come to the funeral. And I don't think Zakk would be able to do it, he has trouble playing In This River because of its lyrical content and the fact that its a tribute to Dime
But that would be KICK ASS. If I got into Panter in '96 I would have been 5, God Damn My Age (atleast I'm not emo)

Meh, they're decent in my opinion. Party metal from Texas isn't exactly my cup of tea, but still, although the riffs are simple the sound is pretty good and it grooves, so if I'm in the right mood, I sometimes listen to them :)

Dimebag taught me heaps about guitar and made a new path for my guitar progression (not in person dickhead) and gave me a ticket that you can get drunk and be good as long as you stay real to ya self.
R.I.P i say
Its fucking bullshit but the people were saying the same thing when john lennon, jim morrisan and hendrix when they died.
I think every band should open with walk at every concert, even for a few minutes or so just to tell the world he born, lived and died a true heavy metal figure and wont be forgotten

Great, great band they were indeed. Had the pleasure of seeing them live four times.
First time they were opening for Judas Priest along with Annihilator. Hadn't heard any Pantera before the gig, but once they hit the stage, I was blown away, and bought Cowboys From Hell the next day.
Second time they were opening for Megadeth, after Vulgar and Countdown had come out. I really like Countdown, and I liked how Megadeth sounded at that time, but Pantera blew them right off the stage. I was in front row, right in front of Dimebag, and it was a pleasure watching the master at work. Got Dime's plectrum from the gig.
Third time Pantera were the headliners, on the Far Beyond Driven tour. I remember Phil asking the audience if anyone had any weed. Someone threw a joint to the stage, Phil and Dime sat to the edge of the stage, started playing Planet Caravan, and shared the joint while playing the song. They started to play Cowboys From Hell after that, but Dime fucked up the riff a couple of times because he was so fucked up from the weed. Once Dime got the riff going, Phil fucked up the lyrics a couple of times, but they got the song going in the end.
Fourth time was at a metal festival, Slayer were playing there too, and the guys from Slayer came to the stage to have some whiskey with Pantera, and they also threw loads of whiskey (in plastic cups) into the audience. Got Rex's plectrum from the gig.

I enjoy their glam albums and Cowboys From Hell, but I don't really like anything they did afterwards.

What an odd topic to bump.
I also like a song or two from their old days. Power Metal and Death Trap - like an even gayer W.A.S.P.
