Other then erasing my internet history and deleting cookies and files...where is it really? I have heard repeatedly that no matter how many times you do this it's still all there in the back round file with the numbers and zeros." how do i find this file and is it bad to have that information still there in the back round? doesn't it make your computer slower?

The only thing that would be in the background would be spyware, get ad-aware or any other good type of spyware remover and run it regularly.

hes talking about how you can never completely erase everything...like if you know how, you can recover any file that was ever on your hard drive
and those ones and zeros are called binary...and if you really want to get rid of all that permanatley, stick a magnet on your hard drive...
it doesnt make anything slower

As I said before I really wouldn't be that worried about it unles someone great with PCs takes a good look at it. If you foramt your HD it means it wipes everything from your computers memory. Although if you are a newbie with stuff like this, I wouldn't bother trying to format cause it can be hard to do if you don't know what your talking about.

I've heard you can still recover files form a freshly formatted computer. Do you think that's true?

Yes its same as resetting it to a past date, the date when you first bought the PC and everything was new ect ect. Depending on your OS, this might not be how,but heres how I would format my PC:

I don't think it's possible to recover files once it's formated A/K but I don't know for sure.

Seriously, is there any reason you want to see these files or are you just curious? There are programs to get back things you have deleted, so I guess hat once you have a file you can't get rid of it. I thought that if you foramatted, they would be gone for good but according to these guys not so. Link to a program that recovers files. (http://www.smartundelete.com/?id=sugg)
