How do I take something from a movie and make it into something else?

Ok, so I want to take something from a movie and make it into an avy (or have someone). I can't find the clip I want online, so I would have to take it from the dvd. Does anyone know what I need to do? How to do it? Thanks

First rip the dvd to your HD, then use imageready (it comes with photoshop) and make your avatar.
