I hope he will be remembered by the public for his football rather than his alcoholism. :(

Woah he's died. I checked this morning and at about noon. Its a shame but he was given a second chance and he squandered it.:wah:
Amazing footballer and he'll never be forgotten by the fans.

Yeah its a terrible shame, not many people outside Europe will probably have heard of Best, hes not as obvious a choice when people are talking about the best ever football player as Maradona or Pele but he was every bit as good and had he not retired at just 26 he might have gone on to do so much more.
George Best was without doubt one of the best ever players arguably the best.... In my opinion Maradona is the best footballer of all time but he was interviewed recently and said his football idol, the guy he always wanted to be was George Best so that says it all.
Lets just hope the minutes silence before todays games is observed by everyone... The real test will be my lot (Liverpool) vs Manchester City at City, Scousers and City fans hate Manchester United, it goes beyond healthy local rivalry but Im confident the Liverpool fans will respect the silence.

Good footballer, but i'm sorry, it's his own fault, even when given a new liver he fucked that up.
No sympathy to be honest.

Manchester will never forget Bestie, and I'm glad to see the bitters are showing their appreciation for a man who was a genius in the eyes of both the red and blue ends of Manc. A true fucking legend. Rest in peace

Well my parents went to the match, and they said after about 20seconds, the scouse wankers were booing and singing.

They'd rob their own parents given half the chance, what were people expecting ?

They have decided that the proposed silence at Upton Park today will now be a minute of applause.
Obviously, someone has been paying attention to the various West Ham United forums and decided that it would be a good idea to drown out the booing which will inevitabley occur from some sections.
Personally, I deplore Best for his wife-beating, alcoholism and jumping of the hospital waiting lists for a liver which should have been given to someone much more deserving. Certainly, his celebrity, was a safety-net for his selfish behaviour...but thats a rant for another section.
However, I'm not so near-sighted that I cant appreciate that he was a fantastic FOOTBALLER and he should be given some kudos for that. Indeed, the Manchester United fans should be allowed to celebrate their own hero without the unecessary agro. But, perhaps it would have been more fitting at OT than UP.
I certainly wont boo, but, theres also no way I'm applauding. I think the phrase is 'sit down shut up'...that's what I'll be doing.

He was a footballer, I liked him because of his football, I regard him as a legend for the football he played.
Why the fuck should I care if he was a drunk ?
I am not celebrating his off field life (which as far as I'm concerned had fuck all to do wqith me), I'm celebrating his on field life.

So ...............How bout O.J. Simpson ...........and if you dont think of somebody less because off the field life would you think of Roberto Clemente less because of his good off then field life.....................
I guess it doesn't matter I see your point to. Let's get back on topic.
