If someone answers this they give a riddle

A "Wise King" devised a contest to see who would receive the Princess hand in marriage.

The Princess was put in a 50x50 foot carpeted room. Each of her four suitors were put in one corner of the room with a small box to stand on. The first one to touch the Princess hand would be the winner and become the new King.

The rules of the test were that the contestants could not walk over the carpet, cross the plane of the carpet, or hang from anything; nor could they use anything but their body and wits (i.e. no magic or telepathy, nor any items such as ladders, block and tackles, etc.).

One suitor figured out a way and married the Princess and became the new King.

How did he figure it out?

No offense but this should be in another section. Most likely the Jokes section, but I think Everything/Nothing would be good too

PS One of the suiters asked her to touch him

He asked the princess to come to him...

A man was being chased by an angry mob when he was stopped at a fork in the road. Down one road was a land where only good people were let in, and where nobody ever lied. Down the other road was a land where bad people lived and nobody ever told the truth. Neither one of the roads were marked, and it was too far away to see. At the fork in the road there were two men, one from each land. And the man running from the mob doesn't know which is which.

If the man had one question to ask each of them simultaneously, that would guide him to the land of good people, what question would it be?

God you guys aren't getting the village riddle are you...it's simple
You can go up to either man and ask them this one question..."Take me to your village" the man who lies isn't going to take you to HIS village he's going to take you to the good village, the man who doesn't lie will still take you to the good village cuz it's his.

Ask, which way is it to YOUR village? If the one is telling the truth, he'll point to his own, if the one that's lying, will point to the opposite one.

No, you ask each man which way the other would tell you to go. The man lying would say the other man would tell you his (the lying mans) way. And the man telling the truth would tell you the other man would tell you again to go the lying mans way therefore you go the opposite to both mans answer!

For the 2 roads/villages one, you could ask any objective question, like you hold up your right hand and ask "Is this my right hand?" The honest guy will tell you yes, the dishonest guy will tell you no. So there's really an unlimited number of answers there.

That doesn't make sense, if he walked that path he wouldnt be back at the lodge he would be 15 miles west of it. Unless of course that is a hint to the answer to the riddle, in that case i have no idea.

Okay, here's a toughie:

Three men walk into a hotel, and ask the clerk for rooms. The clerk informs them that he regretfully only has one room left, but the hotel would gladly accomidate all three of them in the one if they like. They agree, and pay 30$ for the room... Ten minutes later, the manager comes in and tells the clerk that he forgot to mention that the final room was on a special for 25$. The manager sends the clerk up to give the three men their 5$ back. On the way, the clerk stops and thinks, "How am I going to split 5$ among three people... I know I'll keep 2$, and give each of them 1$." which he does. So, each man paid 9$:
9 X 3 = 27
Plus the 2$ the clerk put into his pocket = 29$

Where's the last dollar?

The three men paid 9 + 9 + 9 = 27.
The hotel received 25 and the clerk received 2, so 25+2 = 27.
The books balance and there is no missing dollar. It's just the perception of how the math is done.

RIDDLE:

Suppose you're on a game show, and you're given the choice of three doors: Behind one door is a car; behind the others, goats. You pick a door, say No. 1, and the host, who knows what's behind the doors, opens another door, say No. 3, which has a goat. He then says to you, "Do you want to pick door No. 2?" Is it to your advantage to switch your choice?

yes, it is to your advantage. Because of some thirds crap. It always seems to me like "no, still No1 and No2 are equal" but since he picked No3, and not No2, that gives No2 a good percentage or some bullshit. I don't know the reasoning, but oddly enough, yes, yes you are better off switching.

Here's one.

The three door riddle is simple. If you choose a door, and stick with it, you have a 1 out of 3 chance of being correct. But if you switch your decision, you've essentially eliminated a choice, and your chances have increased to 2 out of 3.

Sound wierd? Work it out on paper.

Three doors:

Door A
Door B
Door C

For argument's sake, we'll assume the prize is behind Door C.

Now, if you choose a door, and stick with that choice, the odds are obvious. There's a one in three chance that you are correct.

If you choose Door A *OR* Door B, and decide to switch your answer when the host removes a choice for you, than you have a two out of three chance. Think about it.

What? You're making it sound as if you get to look behind door A or B, then get to decide if you want to switch.

That's basically how it worked on the original gameshow. When you chose a door, the host (knowing the correct door) would than select an incorrect one from the remaining two doors and open it. After that, you would have the opportunity to change your decision. When you work it out on paper (and on the actual gameshow), you have a better chance of winning if you change your mind and switch at that point. It doesn't sound like it's true... but it is.

Oh right, here's my riddle. It's the only one that came to mind, but you prolly have to be a math geek like me to get it.

What is half of 2 to the power of 20?

c) 2 to the power of 19
d) 1 to the power of 10

Is it:
a) 1 to the power of 20
b) 2 to the power of 10
c) 1 to the power of 19
d) 1 to the power of 10

well it depends if you mean

(half of 2) to the power of 20 = 1^20 = 1

or

half of (2 to the power of 20) = half of 1048576 = 524288

since a=1, b=1024, c=1, d=1, then I guess the answer would be any of A C or D?

I think I'm looking at this completely wrong.

Next riddle if I was right...

There is a wall in front of you with 3 light switches in the off position. There is a locked room nearby with a single lightbulb inside, but you cannot tell if the light is on or off until you open the door. Only one of the 3 light switches will turn on the light, and you are not allowed to touch the switches again after opening the door. How do you determine which switch turns on the light?

You flip the first switch for a couple of minutes. Then turn it off and flip the second switch. Then you open the door.

If the bulb is off but hot, it's the first switch
If the bulb is on, it's the second switch
If the bulb is off and cold, it's the third switch.

Plus, cos I'm a retard I accidentally gave the wrong options to begin with, then went back and changed it in the hope that no one noticed. But people had already quoted the riddle in their replies. So appologies for the confusion.

seeing as though you all love maths ones, heres one for ya, which you will probably get:

???

mike0006
12-05-2005, 02:05 AM
That one took me a while. The answer is 312211. Or not, here's my reasoning
Ask yourself how many numbers there are in the previous number:

1 = starting number
11 = one one
21 = two ones
1211 = one two and one one
111221 = one one, one two, and two ones
312211 = three ones, two twos, one one

(it makes sense in my head. hope I explained it sufficiently)
