What will they do in the future when they retire most/all of the numbers? Move into triple digits? All I know is that I wont be around when the time comes.

ummm..well when numbers are retired, they are retired by individual teams, not the league. say one team retires a player with number 7, players on that same team cannot wear 7, but anyone else not from that team is welcome to. so i dont really see any future problems occuring.

i believe the only league retired number is 99, meaning no one at all in the NHL will ever wear it.

Yeah I knoe each team retires certain numbers, but still, they will eventually run out, since there are about 20 players on a team.

That will be many many many years from now. Even the oldest teams only have a handful retired. If it comes to that point they will unretire them, but keep honored players in the rafters.

Hex Numbers. They haven't touched those yet.
