The dude survived, here's the full story including what was going through his head as this was all happening (happened in 1989):

Took over 300 stitches and 90 minutes to patch him up. According to the article, had the blade cut even 1/8 of an inch higher on the guy's neck (jugular), he would have died within 2 minutes. There's also a longer and higher resolution video of this accident (two camera views) floating around the net. Pretty graphic stuff. At least he survived, in 1985 a Hockey player died of the very same type of accident and there's been a number of other freak accidents like this which resulted in very serious injury.

That was freaking awesome, thats what i wanna do if i play hockey, dropkick someone and cut their throat.... even though that guy didn't dropkick him,...... anyway...

I actually found that more shocking than most videos, and I'm not sure why. I think it was because of the reality of the situation and how you don't expect to see that, even in a violent hockey game.
