If there were ever a year where popularity rules over talent, this would be the year.
Michael Vick was elected with his AMAZING 13 TD's and 12 INT's..with a QB rating of 71.8 (Kyle Bollers is 71.9)....this pro bowl voting is a joke, how can a flunky ass athlete in the QB position actually be voted over guys that have had 20+ TD's with a hell of a lot better QB accuracy and rating...what bullshit.
Second, tight ends...even if he's a rat, how did Gonzo get voted above Todd Heap? Heap has more yards, more catches, twice as many TD's..and Kyle Boller/Anthony Wright was throwing to him....this popularity contest has to be put to an end, there should be an IQ test before everyone votes, if you score high enough, then you get to vote, but since we dont, we will continue to have media hype assclowns who vote for whomever they are familiar with.
Al Wilson, how does this overrated piece of fuckwad actually remotely get close to a pro bowl selection? I can name atleast 6 ILB's that deserved to go more than him...of course again, popularity contest.
And whenever Joey Porter goes to the pro bowl, it's an automatic joke..

A lot of it is reputation. I can see Vick getting in because even w/o stats, he is an amazing player and can win many games.
Brunell would be great to see in there especially off a 4TD performance.
1st and biggest snub i think was Chris cooley. He plays FB and TE and has 6 TDs, 600+yds and 60+ catches for a decent offense.
at least him and portis are 1st alternates.
Biggest "wtf" is probably roy williams. That man has only been burned many times by WRs and makes it over some good talent.
they did an ok job this year and its the best all star selection system ... at least compared to the NBA.

Vick is not an amazing player, his stats and play prove that.
Cooley did get screwed over, I'll agree there. Strong is good, and helps out his offense, but Cooley did it all this year.

Yea. Brunell got shafted.
Torry Holt, STL?!?!?!?!
Did he even do anything this year? I dunno. Wasn't paying attention to STL this year.
And yes, Vick is overrated. Then again, who else can ya pick?

Eli, Bledsoe, Brunell..they all got shafted if Michael Vick was voted over them.
Holt had a great year, 88 catches, 8 TD's, 1128 yards and he missed 3 games I believe.

im not too unhappy about vick being there cause his running this season has been great and he is arguably as effective as any QB at winning games so its hard to compare him to the likes of brady and manning becuase his best asset is not his abillity to pass.
i dont think merriman or porter should be there in the AFC, Terrel suggs or polley should be there.

Vick does not deserve to be anywhere near Hawaii. I completely agree that Bledsoe should have made it.
But I'm really glad to see Tommie Harris make it. Highly underrated player. Sure he may not make many tackles, but he is constanty messing up plays, giving Urlacher or Briggs the chance to stop the plays in the backfield.

I agree im also glad to see that harris made it. Im also happy to see that mike brown finally made it. And it is also nice to see that lance briggs didn't get the shaft. I hope this will show the country how good Brown and Briggs really are, because outside of chicago you never here anyone talk about these guys. I also agree mike vick shouldn't be anywhere near hawaii, his numbers are horrible and he is leading a very talented team to a shitty record this season. I also think fred miller might have got the shaft for the bears, he has protected kyle orton very well this year.

The reason why Bledsoe didn't get voted is because he's jsut came off that game against the Redskins. And jsut a couple weeks ago he got smashed by Strahan and Osi Umenyiora. Glad to see both of them made it. And so did Tiki.

Everybody knows about Urlacher, but the funny thing is how Briggs is actually better than Brian. And Mike Brown for about 3 years has been the best Safety in the league, with very little recognition. Still kind of mad that neither Alex Brown or Adewale Ogunleye made it, both are having big seasons.

Ike Taylor also shut him down pretty good too...doesnt make him pro bowl material.
He didnt have the year Barber, Vasher, or Hall had.

Al Harris had one good game this year, the rest he has been burned terribly by most revievers. Even the Raven's recievers blew by him as if he was a Pee Wee Conerback.

How about the Raven Reciever who constantly burned him? During the Browns game letting a rookie WR just absolutely school him for a big, big gain?
Here are his stats: Tackles - 40 Sacks - 3 INT - 2
That is not a pro bowl quality year. He is not a very good cover back in general either. He really is a safety who plays cornerback, that is all.

I agree with everything you say but 40 tackles is definitely good for a starting cornerback.

Oh, I know, but I just put the main three Defensive categories because lets say somebody has 1 pick, but 90 tackles, it would be stupid to not put the tackles.
That also proves that Al Harris is really just a safety playing Cornerback too.

he had that catch against Mark Roman...possibly the worst starting safety in the history of the NFL, AFL, USFL, CFL, EFL, NCAA, and high school football combined.

Give me a break. He had one bad game this year, and it was last game against Derrick Mason.

No wsuwarrior, it was against Joey Thomas and Nick Collins, who both had horrible coverage on him. NOT AL HARRIS. By the way, Joey Thomas was released while Nick has been a great surprise this year as a rookie.
And Mal, how the hell can you assess Al Harris' year by saying he's had one good game when you don't even remember that he wasn't the one who got burned in Cleveland? He didn't really get burned that bad against the Ravens either. Mason didn't have a massive game. He took him basically the entire game.
Here, an exerpt from an article for you about his effectiveness on shutting down great receivers this year:
Al Harris is very quietly having a great season. We track how each team does against different types of receivers, and Green Bay is 27th against second receivers, 31st against third receivers and 22nd against tight ends. However, the Packers are the best defense in the league so far against No. 1 receivers. With Harris usually covering the other team's top receiver, Green Bay limited Steve Smith to 12 yards, Roy Williams to 13 yards, Donte' Stallworth to six, Antonio Bryant to 32 and Joey Galloway to 53 . (Or, if you consider Michael Clayton to be Tampa Bay's No. 1 receiver, he had just 44 yards.) .

ok dont get too happy about those stats, half of his td's came in his last game. Hes not even in the top 5 in yards for a TE, and if it wasnt for his last game he wouldnt be in the top 10 for TD's.

Well, as of today he's around 9 yards away from 1300 yards recieving, with 9 touchdowns. He's had a great season statwise considering he missed a few games, has been playing on a knee that isn't 100 percent, and has been on the other end of the 2nd and 3rd string quarterback for half the season. Unfortunately the Rams suck hard this year and it doesn't really matter.
Actually, barring some freak accident, he will pass up 1300 yards this season and be the only player who has had 1300+ yards recieving in 6 consecutive seasons. He's pretty damn consistent.

i dont understand...urlacher has the better career stats. But i know stats are over rated and i have sadly never seen a full bears game (well not this season anyway) to compare the two properly.

Briggs is a better blitzer, a better run stopper, and a better coverage man than Urlacher. Briggs is the real deal. Not saying that Urlacher sucks, because he doesn't at all, its just that Briggs is the best LB that the Bears have.

He isnt a better runstopper.. I never see him make tackles, and against the packers i saw him miss a few, like on those dump off passes to the tightends he couldnt tackle them. He is better at covering and probaly blitzing though
MalYoung
12-26-2005, 01:18 PM
But if you've seen him every single game this year like I have, you will know Briggs is a better run stopper. He easily has the better nose for the ball than Urlacher does.

Ive seen about 7 of them, i didnt just watch the packer game and in all of those 7 urlacher outplayed him in the run game. Maybe in the other 8 it was different, i dunno.
Stats of the Week No. 2: Last year, Michael Vick made the Pro Bowl despite being 21st in passer rating; this year he made the Pro Bowl despite being 24th.

i think its strange that everyone tells vick to pass more and concentrate more on the pass game and stay in the pocket just like peyton manning does. but noone tells Manning to run around and rush for touchdowns and go out of the pocket like vick does so effectivly.
Vick's passer rating is only half of his stats as an offensive player. Its a bit like looking at LT without considering his recieving stats. Its unarguable that Vick is extremely effective at creating offense for his team and cause the opposition defence to open up and become less effective.

Haha "no one is telling a quarterback (not just Manning) to run around and rush for TDs"..your right, because thats not their job, they are QB's..not athletes with speed.
Oh, and if you thought this year was a bust for the Falcons, wait till next year, while good defenses figured out Vicks scandal, next year terrible defenses will, and this fluke will be helpless at the QB position.
