hello

i currently have a Ge force 4 MX 420 with 64mb video ram. Its pretty crap when playing CS so i am thinking about buying a radeon 9800 pro.

My question is, my motherboard has a 4x AGP slot (1.5v) and it can only support a max of 4 x AGP. The radeon 9800 pro, however, is 8x AGP. My question is, will it be able to handle the extra voltage, and will the card be worsened, i.e. not running at full performance. That is of course, if the card will even work with 4x AGP, but i heard most cards make sure they are complatible with AGP 1x 2x and 4x.

Dude, a 9800 pro radeon requires a powerful computer (or should I say motherboard + CPU), and can cost about 300 dollars Canadian, if it's PCI express, the AGP versions are sometimes on special and are cheaper in cost. The point is, if your previous graphics card was a 64 ram GeForce model, I don't think your motherboard can handle a radeon 9800PRO, which is basically top of the line video card for all gaming experiences. Now I'm not an expert, but if you want to have a good time with your computer and play all types of games (including high requirments games like The Matrix Path of Neo, or WW2 games seen with no lagging and beautiful resolution) then the graphics card I have is perfect, it's a Viper Radeon X700, about $200 Canadian. But seriously, if you just wanna play Counterstrike, lol, then you shouldn't need more than a GeForce 5500 (usually a hundred bucks). But know whether your motherboard is PCI or not. Hope this helps a little.

i found sumin interesting..

Specifications

GPU/VPU RADEON 9800 Pro

Video Memory 256MB

Memory Type 128-bit DDR

Interface Type AGP

Interface Speed 4X 8X

Connector(s) DVI TV/S-Video VGA

Minimum System Requirements

Intel Pentium 4, AMD Athlon or higher
Microsoft Windows 2000/ME/XP
Available 8x/4x AGP slot
128 MB of system memory
Installation software requires CD-ROM drive

So it looks like it infact will work...so the question now is, is it worth buying this card, or is it better buying a cheaper one as the 9800 pro will be limited slightly anyway.

As long as the card is a 4x/8x version it should work fine, but if its only an 8x version then it won't,both should be available. As for the extra voltage you should worry about the power supply not the mobo, 350+ watts should be fine.
