Didn't he do the first one in black and white because it was cheaper?
Needles to say, I can't wait for this movie to come out.

Yeah, It was an extremely low budget movie. Or so I've heard. I didn't actually see number one. Although I have it. Should I see it? Is it any good?

I didn't see the greatness of the first one, just constant complaining about one thing or another. I could record a day in my life that would be funnier. Jay and Silent Bob are the only reason why it sold.

Kevin Smith did the first Clerks movie for about $35,000. He had to borrow money from his parents and shit like that. One funny thing about the first Clerks was that the story is set in the actual convienence store Kevin Smith worked in. He worked during the day and they filmed the movie at night. That's why it was written in the script that someone would jam gum in the shutter lock. It wouldn't make too much sense to have it dark out when it's supposed to be noon.

The majority of the movie was paid for on credit.

That's why I liked the movie. To me, it was just very realistic. It basically took a page from almost anyone's life, so many people found it very easy to identify with. I guess it's an aquired taste though.

I suppose you're right. Better than these movies about these shitty actors thinking they can save the world.

I use to feel the same way about the movie. I use to not care about clerks until I worked at shitty clerk job like them.

Imo Randal was the best thing about the original. Jay and Silent Bob weren't even in it much.

Wow, they all look so much older. I thought I read somewhere that Kevin Smith was through making movies in the Clerks universe but I guess not. I'm looking forward to this at any rate.

Yeah, which is the main reason i respect him so much. He maxed out every single credit card he had to get money for this movie. So if the movie was a flop, he would be spending the rest of his life paying off debts. He truly risked his entire life to make one film. I am going into film making, and the thought of taking a risk like that on a film with no good actors, crew, location or anything, just a script... Thats fucking dedication.
My guess for this one. At the begining of the trailer, Dante pulls the shudders up and says "oh my god". Im guessing that maybe he reads something like "Going Out of Business", explaing the job at the fast food place. Wonder if its gonna be a "one day on the job" like the first, or take place over several days.
Whether that is or is not the plot, im so fucking excited. Even if this movie blows, im just gonna love seeing the charecters again. We got a few glimpses of em here and there throughout the whole Jersey serise, but now we get to see Dante and Randall and just enjoy em.
Check this out too. Two of favorte film makers (as well as most peoples), Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez (still waiting them to do a horror film together, they could make some scary shit to revive the horror genre) commenting on the movie. Since Tarantino, Rodriguez and Smith all came into the film industry the same way (all had no money and one kick ass script), so I highly respect any opinion they have on any movie. Dont worry, its spoiler free. Since they both liked it, I find it hard for there being any possible way not to like it myself.

Who said there was something wrong? I was simply voicing my wonder as to if, ten years later, he still does it. If he does, he could start a new trend.

No, he did black and white on purpose to make it feel like a store. Most of the stores had security cameras in black and white. But him in low budget, maybe a little bit, but the whole purpose of black/white was giving you a feel for it.

No, he did black and white mainly for money reasons. If he had enough to do color, he would have. He couldnt afford to get a good enough camera and film to do color. But, even if he could some how get enough money for that, color still wouldnt have worked. They had VERY bad lighting, and if there had been color, all the terrible lighting would have shown. A lot of the lights they had gave off very weird colors and tints, and black and white took away those colors. Black and white did make it feel more like security cameras and all that, but it was black and white for money much more then for effect.

Actually, it was about $27,000. And did you know that in the original version of the movie, Dante dies at the end? Get the "Clerks X" DVD, the original version is on it along with a ton of cool extra shit (auditions, backgrounds and shit)

Black and white cameras with movie theater quality film aren't any cheaper than color cameras with the same quality. In fact, cameras that can only film in black and white are now much more rare than they used to be and are therefore more expensive, simply because they are out of production. The filmmakers used a camera that had the ability to film in color, but they simply chose not to for whatever reason. A lot of independent films use black and white coloring to express symbolism in some way, because that's what they were taught in college.
I'm not an expert on any of this, that's just what REASONING has led me to believe.
(p.s. -- GREAT FUCKIN MOVIE)

Even though he probably could afford color film, that wasnt the only money problem. They didnt have very good lighting. Kevin Smith mentioned on the DVD that there were VERY cheap lights. Some of them gave weird tints or didnt shine properly. In color, it would have been very clear. In black and white, no one can notice.
It was filmed in black in white for money, not just because of his vision. End of el story.

Can't wait for this to come out. I've been waiting for Kevin Smith to make a sequel ever since the first one came out. Clerks was an awesome movie, and I'm hoping that Clerks 2, a.k.a The Passion Of The Clerks, is going to be just as good, or better. I like all of Kevin Smiths movies except for Jersey Girl, it wasn't Smith's style, and Jay And Silent Bob weren't in it.

Is it anything like Kevin Smith's other movies such as Dogma or Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back?

quick summary from IMDB: The sequel picks up 10 years later. "It's about what happens when that lazy, 20-something malaise lasts into your 30s. Those dudes are kind of still mired, not in that same exact situation, but in a place where it's time to actually grow up and do something more than just sit around and dissect pop culture and talk about sex," Smith said during an interview at his Hollywood office. "It's: What happened to these dudes?"
anyone else from the akron/canton area going to see this?
