Drag Racer help information?

I'm playing Drag Racer at the moment, But I'm not sure what I should do to improve my car. Mainly, Because I don't know ANYTHING about cars. Should I be trying to get all the horsepower and torque parts? Or the basic equal parts. Or what? And also wich car should I pick at the start? Etc. Etc.

Help really appreciated!
