Seems to me that all the movies people post about here are pieces of shit that made 100 million plus in the last few years. LoTR is gay, dont try to convince me otherwise. Saw, Saw 2, Hostel? Give me a fucking break. Matrix et al are not bearable without cron, and Chronicles of Narnia is for british fucking posers. I cant even remeber the last time i was looking forward to a film.

Mr Hezikiah, you did not like Saving Private Ryan, an AMAZING film, so no matter how much you bash current movies and think you have much better taste for doing so, you will likely never get movie respect from me. Just thought id say...

I don't think i said i didnt like saving private ryan, merely that i fell asleep during it. I dont think i have better taste then anyone here just a different one. This translates into me bashing a lot of films that seem to get a lot of attention on this board. Tripe like the Matrix, LoTR and crappy horror flicks that for some reason people go out and see. Don't even get me started on these comic book adaptations. As for getting your movie respect, I could care less...
As for dooknobopner's query, I like anything Kubrick has done, my favourite being Barry Lyndon, which i doubt any of these matrix fanboys could even sit through, lack of eye candy and all. Quick list of some of my favourites : Blade Runner, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Manchurian Candidate (B&W) The Wild Bunch, Come and See (Russian) Apocalypse Now etc. But all I really watch these days is Arrested Development on DVD. Best t.v. show ever.
I love older movies, especially horror flicks. They can't seem to make a good horror movie these days.

3 words...
Shawshank MFing Redemption.
I don't really like the acting of the guy in the lead role. I'm not sure, but it seemed like he took the whole 'sensitive prisoner in a hard jail' too far. Freeman made that movie great for me.
It's not to the 15 year mark yet, but it doesn't have to be. Definately in the top 5 of all time.

and crappy horror flicks that for some reason people go out and see.
who cares if they are crappy or all the same, people see horror movies because they are exciting to watch at the time. I dont give a shit if its going to be a classic or whatever, if its fun to watch ill watch it. Not every movie needs to be super amazing and original and nothing ever like it before. Movies are supposed to be fun to watch, and thats what alot of them are.

The 70's is considered the best movie decade because the 'Hays Act' or 'the film production code' ended in the late 60's which censored just about everything. So in the 70's you had an explosion of films depicting sex, violence and political ideas that were taboo when the Hays Act was in place.

Today's movies are shit.
I usually watch classics by Stanley Kubrick, Terry Gilliam, and other good directors.

I prefer most older films to new ones.
Risky Business, Rain man, Ferris Bueller, Weird Science. All great films, better than some of the films out today in the same genre.
