Check this band out: Firebrands http://www.firebrandsrock.com
Their live gig footage: http://www.firebrandsrock.com/video/phunkGigFootage.wmv
And their song, Katrina:

This band is from Singapore, yet it has the audacity to sing about Hurricane Katrina and US politics. Damn lame and cheesy. Fucking socio-political posers...
Visit their website, download their video and mp3 and see how pathetic they are... Cheap, Made In Singapore imitation of Rage Against The Machine.
News flash: 90% of modern popular music is nothing but political bullshit wining. Get over it.
Just look at System of a Down.

True, MiKe, but this band is from SINGAPORE! The nanny state that is free from disasters and conflicts!
They are singing about stuff that isn't in their turf... In the live gig video, you will see a band member kicking a US flag. Wtf?
I am not condemning political whiny bands, let SOAD do their shit. Besides, SOAD is a US-based band.

SOAD is not a political band. Their songs cover a variety of topics. Also, this band sounds very amateurish...it sounds like the singer isn't even trying.

Ha! that site is awsome! I love, after you enter the site, that little add thing: "Download their massive hit KATRINA! www.firebrandsrock.com that's www......." lol that's the best, I for one, come from Ottawa, and have never heard any "massive hit" KATRINA. But yeah, I'm listning to it right now, and it's not half bad... and it's true the words kindda suck... but what ever man you just gotta go with it. These guys are from Singapore so they probably don't even speak english that well...

I love how they bought one of those guys to do VOICE overs for them.

I really could care less that they're singing about Katrina or US Politics, but the song is pretty mediocre as it is.

So what if they have a song about hurricane Katrina? Nightwish (Finland) has a song about Native Americans. I'm not saying they're good or bad, but they dont have to live here to write a song about the hurricane.

I'm so sick and tired of political bands. It really degrades music IMO.
I use to be a fan of these kind of bands, I can't stand them now. I guess I grew up to realize that the shit they say is bullshit.
I really can't stand U2. Talk about a bunch of captain planet wackjobs. "Let's save the forest and cut down on paper! Yaaay!" Are they gay or bi? And I'm not being sarcastic or mean about them.

hmm, some posters in this thread seem rather uneducated, well in chaira55's case, he just seems like a kid with a bone to pick
a quick google search shows that the band is based in Singapore but are infact Caucasians. i guess living in other countries other than the one of your birth is unheard of for some people!
i've heard the song and think it's rather terrible, personally.
ps. i'm an Aussie studying in Singapore temporarily, i hope if i make a song about some Aussie issue i won't get called out for it :(

Hello,
I'm Jachin, drummer of Firebrands.. and I know this post comes kinda late, but I discovered the thread by chance surfing the www and I thought why not reply?
Just wanted to say, Katrina was the first recording we ever made as Firebrands, a promo release, shortly after the disaster... I wrote those lyrics, and well, its cause I'm from Lousiana myself, my family is living in and around New Orleans, and the song is for them, and what they went through. Its also meant to be an accusing finger pointed at those responsible for the system that failed.
The band is actually a mix of Caucasians and Asians, but we have a heart for all that goes on beyond the shores of our authoritarian nanny city... one song is about the french intifada, one is about the blood diamonds of africa, one is about the oppression of our neighbours to the south...
you see.. living in this political straightjacket is the reason for our rash with authority.
Anyway, who knows what the future holds. You might be right, and we may go down as socio political posers, but we're doing what we do genuinely with a mind to find something authentic in this world in the time we're given to live.
Leave us a message on myspace.com/firebrandsrock if you like.
Jachin
