Ok, I am having some problems with the new release of Winamp (ver. 5.13). I'll spare you the details but I will tell you that i've tried almost everyting to get Winamp to work properly, so I give up...this is the first upset i've had with Winamp in god knows how many years and it's pissing me off. Also, I can't install an earlier version because there is a security flaw in early versions, which leaves me the only option of installing Winamp 2 (don't want to do that).

So anyway, until they release ver. 5.14, does anyone have positive experience with some mp3 player software for Windows other than Winamp (or iTunes)? Thanks for the input.

What's wrong with iTunes? As far as I'm concerned, it's the best musicplayer out there, if only because of how it keeps everything organized and its easy-to-use burning/importing capabilites.

Yes I agree, unless you have some really large beef with Apple computers, iTunes is the best out there.

My impression with iTunes was that you need to sign up for it, and I don't want to deal with the iTunes music store, just want a player. Also, can it play mp3's of any bitrate, including variable?

You don't have to sign up for it, and you don't have to deal with the store. You only deal with the store when you click on "Music Store" within iTunes.

As far as mp3s, it plays all bit rates. I don't know about variable, but I can only assume it does, it really is a great player.

My only complaint is the lack of visualizations...anyone know where I can get more?

Yes, Itunes plays variables.

iTunes is pretty good. It's got some irritating parts (like for me, i can never close it right away "one or more applications are using the itunes scripting interface"), and it's infuriating to import a folder that has songs youve already imported. Oh. And it also infuriates me how they push their AAC format on you.

Outside of that, iTunes is fine. I stopped using WinAmp simply because i got an iPod.

I use Musicmatch. It's probably not the best; and it is a bit of a resource hog. But it plays everything I want and it has all the features I want.
