Canada is dominating the game. So what if they run the score. You telling me if the states had a chance to run up they score they wouldn;t do it? Thats a bunch of bull. I've been on a dominate hockey team before. We beat teams 17-0, 16-0, 12-0 before its just because we were so damn good. Keep running up the score Canada and win the GOLD!!!!

As far as I know home ice advantage can be decided on goal differential. It would be a shame to ease up and lose home ice in the finals just to save a team's confidence.
The system should be changed, otherwise there is no problem running up the score to gain home ice.

Pass the puck around and play keep-away with the opponents?

That seems more humiliating than running the score.

I agree as well, if you cant hang then dont show up. The only thing a good solid ass beating has ever done for me is make me come back tougher and better prepared. I think the canucks are doin em a favor.

yeah running the score up is fine, especially when it comes to the Olympics when goals for and goals against can help break ties (which Canada wouldn't need anyway)....teams should keep playing. though a 16-0 win is a bit of a stretch especially against the host country...but it is a touchy issue...if they jus dump the puck or play keep away that is a bit of an embarrasement.

As for running up the score they're right its not something you do in hockey. I remember playing a team from Watertown NY, we were up like 8-0 in the first period and our coach said ease up, just dump it in the rest of the game.

The reason you don't run up the score in hockey is because things tend to get ugly near the end of the game if a team thinks your embarrassing them. Why get one of your players hurt when you've already won the game easily.

What the Candian womes team did was even worse because they ran up the score against the host country 16-0. The only reason the Italian women are in the games is because the host country gets a bye(bi?).

Running up the score is bush league...regardless of the sport. There's really no defense for it. She's right, they're a team full of stat rats.

Being Canadian, I must admit I'm a bit uncomfortable with the 16-0 blowout. It's almost un-Canadian. However, I also agree with Thurst that not playing to potential is very humiliating to the other team. Perhaps the rules can be changed regarding home ice...maybe a mercy rule til' second teir countries improve.

Canada's Don Cherry recently commented that piling the scores could ultimately mean the end of women's hockey in the olympics. Hope this doesn't happen cause it would be great to have the Russians play level raised to gives us great competition.
