This is what amarika should do next:

I'm in 10th grade in the united states right now, taking a course called "world history and geography." guess what they don't teach us... the locations of the vast majority of the world's countries. Really, just because our current president can't understand something doesn't mean it shouldn't be taught in our schools. (and if i spell something wrong, its just me being lazy. same with my sporadic use of capital letters.) I used to think that the state of maryland was about where Spain is, and if i hadn't gotten any education outside of school i might still think that. (although that probably says more about my stupidity than anything else.)

Well duh!!!!!:dunce:
Its just the fact that there are a lot of people in America who are that dumb.
And yes. Im sure there are people in other parts of the world who are also that dumb and dumber. But the main difference is:
THEY KNOW THEY'RE DUMB.
So they shut up and let other people do the talking. They would probably answer "I dont know" or "We shouldnt go 2 war with anyone."
Who's really dumber. The one who thinks France is Australia and DOESNT say anything, or the one who confidently says it?
Also, Americans have a good education system, so they SHOULD know.

The Americans must actually be really smart...
They obviously picked up on the accent of the CNNNN interviewer (CNNNN is an Australian show) and thus made a purposeful effort to "mistake" Australia for the countries that they want to nuke. Very clever.

Inability to identify countries on a map does not reflect stupidity. Map-reading is an acquired skill. It merely means the Americans don't put much emphasis on world geography in their schools. The U.S. did not become the world's most powerful, richest, and most technologically-advanced nation by having dumb citizens.

I thought it'd be obvious that I'm not American, and no, I'm not even a native speaker of English. Just in case you didn't notice, I said "most of you". If you feel offended, it means you're including yourself in the category... which is really not my fault, now, is it?
Now, it's easy to quote the non-native speaker bastard who wrote something that doesn't make sense, but so far nobody gave a good reason for the fact that those dumbasses were confidently answering something they're completely ignorant about, especially considering they were asked what country should be invaded next. So not only are you unable to tell Australia from Iran, but you also think that another miserable nation should be invaded, as in a fucking game? That's really fucked up.
P.S. Geez, look at this thread... and you're talking about my grammar?

Actually regarding the education system in the USA...20/20 did a special on education and your schooling system ranks a measley 14...of course out of 300 or so countries that is good...but since you claim to be the best nation in the world it should be much much higher...korea and china are an example of some countries ahead of you...Canada (im Canadian) ranks second on the list. So now really...whose to blame for most of those interviewees? It definately is not them because if you aint being taught the material you arent going to know the facts. It is your education system that needs a overhaul and unfortunately Bush would rather gain a little more oil and go to war then care about the youth of the nation. I feel for you guys...it isnt fair because your innocent.

How can all of you who generalize the people of the United States as ignorant do so without realizing how ignorant you yourselves are being? Yes, there are a lot of stupid, ignorant people in the U.S., but there are also a lot of those types of people world-wide; it's not just a U.S. thing. People really seem to forget that. In fact, I'll wager you could pull the same stunt in other countries. By the way, I thought I'd point out the irony in the fact that a lot of the people who say they live in Canada (conveniently located in the Americas) call the people in America ignorant without realizing they're calling themselves ignorant as well.
Though, that video was pretty terrible. Funny, but terrible.

Just wanted to point out that while you're pointing out things, you might want to be clear on the fact that "America" isn't a continent, The "Americas" are two seperate continents, North America and South America. However it's generally understood that when refering to a person as an "American" you are refering to a United States Citizen, calling them a "United States of American" would take too fucking long and "United Statsian" just sounds goofy and would also be wrong since the full name of Mexico is in fact the "United States of Mexico". We're called Americans because the word "America" is in the name of our country and it isn't in the name of any other nation.

America is a continent. The terms America and the Americas are both used to refer to the continent as whole -- that is, both South and North America. Technically, by the definition of it, it's only one single continent, much like Europe and Asia (Eurasia).
And yes, you're called "Americans" because that's probably the easiest way to refer to yourselves in English. But your country is not called "United States of America" in Spanish, Russian and Greek, is it? Therefore, there are other terms (that are not equivalent to "American") to refer to an U.S. citizen in other languages, which don't necessarily sound "goofy". I know it probably didn't make sense, but whatever... this is fucking eBaum's World.

I still would have to disagree, if we accept your idea of what is and isn't a continent then the world only has 6 continents and that's just wrong, it has 7. North America and South America are seperate continents. There is no continent called Eurasia, it's only refered to as that when talking about a landmass that is interconnected not as a continent.
If you pay a visit to Russia, they call us "Amerikan" as do a lot of other countries, what anyone would call us in their own language might differ but that doesn't mean we're not Americans. The Germans call the British "Englanders", does that make them less British? We call people from Japan Japanese but their country isn't even called Japan in their own language. That doesn't mean that THEY are wrong to call themselves 日本語
just because we don't. Should Greeks call themselves Greeks instead of Έλληνες?

My point was that America is a continent, and it technically is by more than one international standard. On the other hand, the United States are only called "America" by U.S. citizen and a handful English-speaking nations; it is seen by other countries as a patriotic and sometimes even selfish term, as if the U.S. were the only country in the continent, or "ruled" the continent... and we all know most of you do think that way, right?

Oh bullcrap, there are 7 continents, just because some other countries decided they want to be different and set up some kind of new "models" doesn't change that fact. North and South America are seperate continents, this isn't a matter of semantic debate, it's a matter of geological fact. They're called continents because of the continental plates on which they reside. There's no debate about this and just because some politically correct yahoo decided to put that on wikipedia doesn't make it correct in any way shape or form.

The reason Americans are called Americans is a simple matter of it being easier to say than "United States Citizens" or anything like that. We're also the only country in the world with the name "America" actually in the name of our country. We are the United States of AMERICA, no other country has the word in its name. It's not a matter of ego or feeling we "rule" anything. We're not a monarchy, remember? That's something most other countries have played with, we've never RULED a damned thing. People from other countries with a chip on their shoulder (and usually a serious inferiority complex) love to try to make it sound like we're egotistical or that we think we run the world, that's their problem not ours.
There is nothing to debate here. US citizens are called Americans because it's easier to say, simple. North and South America are seperate continents of which there are 7, period.

I'm starting to wonder what's the point of this discussion, considering you're unable to accept facts just because you don't agree with them... It's pretty clear now that it's up to you to decide what's correct and what isn't, so I'll just take everything you say as the absolute truth and worship your holy word.
The reason Americans are called Americans is a simple matter of it being easier to say than "United States Citizens" or anything like that.

I'm starting to wonder what's the point of this discussion, considering you're unable to accept facts just because you don't agree with them... It's pretty clear now that it's up to you to decide what's correct and what isn't, so I'll just take everything you say as the absolute truth and worship your holy word.
About fucking time one of you morons caught on and decided to save time and just do things the right way for a change! YEESH!
Seriously though, it's got nothing to do with MY word on things, it's simply what is and what isn't. This isn't about theories or conjecture, it's just what is. There are 7 continents, period.
As for whether I'm agreeing with you or not, no, I'm not, because along with the part that we DO agree on is the part where you're insulting to Americans and have to have that whole attitude that so many fuckwads from other countries adopt whenever they talk about Americans. Shit about how we think we're better, blah blah. It's bullcrap, get over yourself.

There's no debate about this and just because some politically correct yahoo decided to put that on wikipedia doesn't make it correct in any way shape or form..
I like how in this you say that there are seven continents because of the tectonic plates they are on, and then say there are 7. Eurasia is actually all on one plate, and India is on it's own plate entirely.
One way isn't more correct than the other, but you're mixing the ideas of how to divide continents and arguing "facts" that simply aren't true. Even worse is that it's on one little argument that is only nitpicking on what someone else said to begin with.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continent
My point was that America is a continent, and it technically is by more than one international standard.
If you were to say America is a continent using the 7 continent model then you would be wrong. But if you use the 4 continent model then you would be right.
Americans don't refer to the US as America to piss off other countries or to be patriotic. The reason why people refer to the US as America is because it's quicker to say/write than United States of America. There are many shorthand terms for the United States of America: USA, US, United States, and America. None of them are meant to offend other nations.
This just goes to show how people like to criticize just about everything about the US. For God's sake, people have to criticize how we refer to our own nation; that's just pathetic. But then again, every other nations is more smart and morally correct than the US, right? The US is just the scum bucket of the world, and all those Americans are slowing the forward progress of today's advanced society. Perhaps all Americans will get wiped out in a terrorist/nuclear attack. Then you wouldn't have to be bothered with the horrible and ignorant Americans.
After the Americans have been eliminated from the equation, the world can enter a peaceful state, with the all-loving and caring China looking out for the rest of the world.
No matter what the US does, people will criticize the country. With the US often being the focus in the media, the spotlight is always on us. That gives people an opportunity to complain and critique every small aspect of the US. If the spotlight was on another nation, the same exact thing would happen to that nation. This just goes to show how many people fall to the knees of the media.

My original point is that the U.S. should have a better educational system, given your position as the world's most powerful nation. If the U.S. has the right/power to judge what country should to be invaded, then I guess a middle-class citizen of your country (or the President) should be able to tell Iran from Australia.
Oculus Infernus preferred to avoid this matter and focus his efforts on how America is not a continent, which is just plain ridiculous. It's a fact that America is a continent by at least one model, while it's also fact that the U.S. is not officially called America, but he refused to accept that. This was my reply to TheGrimKreeper, who made a senseless statement about how you shouldn't call an American stupid if you're Canadian, since you both live in the continent.
Additionally, I've never said I see that as patriotism or whatever, I'm saying that's how you are seen by foreign eyes. Whether I think that way or not was not the point of the discussion, or was it? The only thing I stated as my opinion was my original point -- "It's funny, 'cause considering the U.S. is supposedly the most powerful country in the world, people there should have one of the best educations in the world, right?".

Although the US educations if far from perfect, it's not as bad as people make it out to be. I've been in the public school system for 9 years. For three years I went to the International School of Brussels, Belgium. The facilities and education at the international school were superb, as expected. Now I'm back into US public schools, and they are no where near the excellent quality of ISB. That said, however, the education here isn't that bad. Everyone has the opportunity to get a decent education in public schools, it's just that a lot of people choose not to by slacking off. I think a good chunk of the problem is not with the schools themselves but the students.
Second of all, the public education system does not reflect the intelligence of those in power. Those in power have to meet a certain level of intelligence. In other words, the president isn't stupid (although it does appear that way).
Oculus Infernus preferred to avoid this matter and focus his efforts on how America is not a continent, which is just plain ridiculous. Oculus Infernus knows that the US is not officially called America. I think everyone on this board knows that. Infernus was just saying that people call the US America because it's easier than saying The United States of America.
Additionally, I've never said I see that as patriotism or whatever, I'm saying that's how you are seen by foreign eyes. Whether I think that way or not was not the point of the discussion, or was it? We do have one of the best educations in the world. People from all over the world come to the US to get an education at our colleges. Again, our education system, which definitely could use some major improvements, is actually not that bad. First of all, the people in that film do not necessarily reflect the intelligence of the entire US. Even if there are a lot of stupid people in the US (which there probably is), there are also a lot of stupid people in other countries; stupidity is not limited to the US.
Now to quote Microwavegerbil:
"Even worse is that it's on one little argument that is only nitpicking on what someone else said to begin with."
On to the topic of the "Talking with Americans" video; I must admit it's pretty sad, especially the one about the time. However, if a reporter came up to you with a camera and began interviewing you, I think it's fair to say that many people would not second guess the validity of the reporter's facts. However, that is no excuse for many of the stupid people in those videos.

To everybody who is bitching about AMERICA (which is what I will always call it, and will never do so with the feeling that I am superior to a citizen of another country):
Please read Enemy of the People by Henrik Ibsen. It's a short story which deals with the majorities and minorities of the world.
Other countries appear much more intelligent right now because they did not screw up with their management of terrorist attacks on their country.
In reality, America is a country which has accepted those who could not succeed in your own countries and puts them through an educational system geared towards the average person, not the einsteinian genius. There are places for geniuses in our country as well, and these are the places that many of your brightest students come to ever year to study. The people in these videos are dumb and oblivious to the rest of the world, however they are not campaigning to kill over cartoons. Who gives a fuck, let them live their lives. Without America, the world is a place still segregated and dillusional.
Look at Iran. This country has no respect for America and our values. They do not have tolerance for anyone unlike their own, and are willing to murder over a cartoonist who was not aware of one of their religious rules. Their leaders are telling them to kill over a cartoon, and the rest of the world is apologizing and apologizing and apologizing. Our leaders decide to attack after two hijacked planes kill thousands, and then reports of nuclear weapons, and we are still the ones apologizing and apologizing and apologizing. It is very easy to sit back and wait to see if America screws up and then criticize them. It's not easy to be the leaders who only have a short amount of time to react to very potentially dangerous situations. We cannot predict the future, only use the information presented to us to make the best decision possible.
Our country is infact a majority of dumbasses, as all of the states with the lowest IQ's are the ones which elected Bush to office. We also have an entire society of adult females who are more concerned with The View, People and Cosmopolitan Magazines, and Desperate Housewives than anything else on the planet. Most of our youth live in a world of video games, television and the internet. The most important things in our lives are popularity and money. The coolest people in our high schools are infact the biggest assholes and bitches.
But we know how to live, love and laugh. We may be nuked tomorrow because our lives have come to the point where we only have to be concerned about our families and our own personal happiness. We may have lost hindsight as to what got us here, and how lucky we truly are. But we've had fun. Right now the most intellectual things we deal with are Dane Cook jokes. Right now our biggest concern is who A-Rod's going to play for in the WBC. And why can't we be this way? Why can't our personal interests and the state of our friends and families be the most important things to us? Why should we be on a religious crusade, or at war for our beliefs? Why can't the world be a place where the location of Iran means jack shit, because Iran is thousands of miles away and they live their lives their own respective way, and we live ours our own way as well? Why? Fuckin A.

I didn't respond to all of the other points in your older posts because I didn't really feel like getting into a political debate. I just wanted to point out the facts regarding the continents and the use of the word Americans. But since you insist.
In what way is the educational system of this country somehow inferior to other nations? We have several of the top universities in the world in this country. Harvard, Yale, MIT, Cal-Tech, Stanford, etc etc, the list goes on and on.
I propose that you're just another individual who spends way too much time in front of the idiot box or reading yellow journalism (which is what most journalism is world wide these days) and believe what you're force fed. On top of which you probably believe the Hollywood bullcrap that comes from here and all the nonsense about our supposed culture that only shows what goes on in one or two places (California and New York for the most part). They are NOT the be all and end all of our country by a long shot and their "culture" doesn't even begin to scratch the surface.
If you only know what you know from TV, Movies and so forth, you probably WOULD think we're a bunch of idiots. Or if you went by what you see in places like this forum even, I could see that being your concept of us. It's wrong however.
We are one of the best educated countries if not THE best in the world. Sure we have a high rate of illiteracy and a lot of kids that just plain don't give a shit and think it's more important to be street smart than get an education. But those are just the morons that make the news and they are the minority.
I'm sure we could take polls of what people thought of every country based on what they could learn from popular sources and we'd have a long list of stereotypes and nonsense. The truth is always a lot more than what you percieve it to be. If YOU are smart you would know that.
Yes, America is the world's most powerful nation. Do you think we got that way by being stupid? If Americans were stupid we'd be in a lot worse shape than the rest of the world but the opposite is true.
Really it just boils down to a lot of propoganda and lies. To be perfectly honest, most Americans really don't care about what the "world opinion" of us is because we know that most of the world is ignorant. Sorry to say that but it's true. A lot of the world has a totally skewed perspective on what the Average American is like or how intelligent he or she is. But the next time YOUR country is invaded, overthrown, threatened, or attacked, please do feel free to seek aid from one of the SMARTER countries.

2. What does your question have anything to do with common information that an American citizen should know?
3. I am going to honest with you I do not know the answer to your question. The "easiest" question could have been is "who is the father of all helicopters?". Planes are more my subject.
4. Since you seem to be aeronautically inclined. The military contracted either Boeing or Lockheed-Martin for the new JSF. Who did the military hire? What special features does this plane have? What will it be called?
5. What plane tested in Groom Lake 1978 and crashed and rendered the pilot unable to fly ever again? What was the cause of this crash? Another hint it's first mission was flown in 1989 over Panama in Operation Just Cause.

1. You are a retard, I did answer you question, re-read my post, it is in white text... Edit, I'm gonna help you cause I think you are way to dumb to figure it out on your own.
The hell are you talking about, grow up Lars. 'This is the easiest question besides commander and chief'. That is the most immature thing I have read on this forums in I’ve been here a LONG time. Tommy Franks check my previous post yourself
2. I asked a question mocking you, saying how who is commander of centcom isn't the 2nd easiest question next to who is president
3. You're such a dumbass
4. That is so simple... but im really tired of your questions, F-35, Lockheed, vertical takeoff for the marine varient, I think boeing made the XF-32.... I can go on, but you are a serious waste of time
5. F-117A Nighthawk, but who the fuck cares tard?
And for the record, you are a dipshit who gets all his facts from the internet and lies about being a 2nd at Embry-Riddle (http://forum.ebaumsworld.com/showthread.php?p=1954291#post1954291) for respect on a internet forum. You think you are asking hard questions, I know preschoolers with more knowledge of aviation then you, so please, stop acting like you know jackshit.

I hate those stupid cartoons
People don't realize that if the average american was this dumb then the average watcher of the video wouldn't find it funny. They were clearly playing along to get on national TV, heck I would.

If that WAS average, i'd hate to see the low end!!!!
Seriously, those people are NOT the average, they are the low end. THe thing is, the low end is so big in the States.
USA is a very mixed society. They have some of the smartest people in the world, but they have a whole lot more of the dumbest.
