They aren't Danish any more, they're the Sweet Rosy of the Prophet (or something like that).

That's nothing compared to the concept of "Freedom Fries", "Freedom Toast" and "Freedom Kiss" by some rednecks after France did not back Bush on the Iraq issue.

Rednecks? Or Congressmen?
On March 11, 2003, Representatives Robert W. Ney (R - Ohio) and Walter B. Jones, Jr. (R - North Carolina) declared that all references to "french fries" and "French toast" on the menus of the restaurants and snack bars run by the House of Representatives would be removed. House cafeterias were ordered to re-name french fries as "freedom fries".
It's the EXACT same thing.

Because the worst thing we can do is offend someone. Never mind the 99.99% of french people who were never offended by it, we had to change the name for that one special person.

That is the point.
The US/Iran thing is so funny. The longer this goes on the more similiar our nations seem. (ok so that is sad and funny)

It wasn't about not offending anyone, it was a silly political maneuver to get a dig in on the French. The "freedom fries" phenomenon was nationwide.

How soon people forget. Those horrible riots that took place all over France when French fries were renamed Freedom fries. You can't really blame them though, food is like religion to the French.

Shit is getting seriously, protests in Indonesia attacking a US embassy, , and Christians are being targetted as scapegoats in the middle east. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11445755/)

its not the exact same thing since the freedom fries was only used in hte fouse of rep's cafateria while the iranians are changing teh pastries name across the country, through a union decree, denying that the danish were the ones that originally invented them

Similar to Fidel Castro having Cuban schools teach that he invented electricity.
Not discovered it like Franklin did, but INVENTED, as in it didn't exist, not even in lightening before Castro made it.

We did? When the fuck did this happen? ... I dont remember any formal/nation-wide name change. Oh wait ..
It's the EXACT same thing.
Oh really? I don't remember them pressuring/asking (forcing) all restaurants in the nation to change the name of french fries to freedom fries. I guess that wouldnt be the same EXACT thing

You guys must be joking, it was only a couple years ago. You couldn't go 10 feet without hearing about some bullshit protest against France. Restaurants all over were serving Freedom fries, and freedom toast, we had big half-assed boycotts of french products, and people got news time for pouring out french wines.
Selective memory is a wonderfull thing.

Do peaceful Muslims ever shout 'Allahu akbar'?
In every beheading video I've seen the bad ones always shout it at the exact moment of decapitation. Of course as we all know these aren't real Muslims. They're just Muslim wannabes.
But still I'm just wondering, do peaceful Muslims jump up and shout 'Allahu akbar' whenever their child scores a goal in little league soccer?

Yes it is, eh, Noc? Because you've selectively forgotten that no restruant was FORCED to make that change. They did it on their own, as directed by the management of each individual establishment.
The actual legislation only mandated that change be made in the cafateria at the Capitol Building used by Congressmen.
Everyone else either didn't pick up on that through their own inability to read or was a dumb enough hick redneck enough to think that was a wonderful idea.
If it was forced, how come Ore-Ida never made that change on their frozen fries? How come Kraft and other companies that make salad dressing still had French Dressing printed on their labels?
I don't recall ever walking into a restruant in Florida that made that change. No, I distinctly recall walking into a McDonalds that a friend of mine worked at at about that time to pick up the order of 30 meals we had made for everyone in the sax section because we were having a practice after school that day that was gonna run late and she had teken the order in to get it premade for us, and Iwas to take it to the school.
And everyone that had their order taken while I was there was asked if they wanted French fries with that. The menu, which is easy enough to change, also still said French fries.
Americans being retarded: voluntary herding mentality in reaction to Congress by rednecks and idiots.
Iranians being retarded: forced to do so by law immediately or face legal consequences, which are extreme and harsh in general over there.

So we agree the US Congress behaves much as the Iranian theocracy does, in this matter, only with less reach?

I think they behave better. Petty as it may be, they didn't even attempt to force it on the public, let alone threatening violence if people didn't comply.
Why must you draw equations when things are not equal?

This story is funny, no different than freedom fries/toast. I won't be surprised if it changes to a national thing like the Freedom Fries thing even though it was never enforced.

Some mod IP check this guy and see if it matches dark_star. Talks exactly like him and seems to know a lot of the forum's view for such little posts.

Care to make a wager that I can't find at least 1 real piece of legislation that was introduced at the time to make it official?
Dipshits are dipshits, no matter what nation they are from. There are plenty in congress, on TV, etc. that would have loved to force everyone to not buy french stuff and to call them freedom fries.
Just do a forum search on freedom fries, or boycotting french products.
Both of these actions were equally fucking stupid, for an advanced, democratic, globaly trading nation like the US to get on the bandwaggon of something so stupid, is just as bad as a backwards nation requiring name changes.
