The best of all time, not of today. There's no way he's even close to these guys yet.

He wasn't even the best this season. Let's get a grip.

Barry Sanders. I love Payton and Smith was great as well, but Sanders is just the best, IMO.

Barry Sanders...c'mon people, this guy was the biggest playmaker of the bunch, had less a team than ANYONE on this list...Emmitt Smith shouldnt even have made it to the finals...and Barry Sanders should win this without question...but it wont happen.

Well I didn't think Emmit deserved to be here because he had a monstrous line but the others voted him to the final round. I have Barry at second on my list. I just can't put anyone above Jim Brown on my list because he was too dominant.

9 seasons in the NFL, 9 Pro Bowls. All Century Team RB.

When I first read this post I laughed because I thought you were being sarcastic. When I realized you were serious I laughed again.

I don't think it's even close. Barry Sanders did amazing things on a team that wasn't just bad, but terrible for basically his entire career. Jim Brown is 2nd for sure, and then I think the other two are a distance 3rd and 4th.

I was being sarcastic... But I do think that Tomlinson will be one of the best if not the best by the end of his career. I just over estimate him and rate him as what he will soon accomplish

I dont think so.

LT first 4 years: 5899 yards
Clinton 4 years: 5930
LT career avg (5 years): 4.3ypc
CP career avg (4 years): 4.7
LT first 4 years RushingTD: 54
CP first 4 years RushingTD: 45

First 4 years Fumbles LT: 19 CP:16

20+ yard run in 4 years: LT:37 CP: 35

Now that is pretty even and prbably edge to CP for rushing. Obviously recieving is where LT is leaps and bounds ahead but CP could catch up with Saunders in.

Thats what I mean, LT is the best all round running back, he can block, recieve, throw AND run on top of everything else

Uh, LT catches screen passes (As does Willie Parker) and dont even say he can throw...they are trick plays, almost any offensive player can run a trick play...I'm not denying the fact he's the best running back TODAY, because I think he is...but I hate when people always say he can "THROW"...Bettis also threw a few touchdowns in his career...but I'm not ready to say he can "throw"..

I think CP can block better than anyone else. And CP threw a TD but i know exactly what you mean sincei had him on my fantasy team.

But gibbs had made CP into a great blocking RB

Not to sound like a homer but our 3rd string back (Whom we use for blocking and screen passes) Vernon Haynes is an EXCELLENT blocker, and in my opinion a better blitz navigator and blocker than LT.

Oh well that doenst really count even if it is true since he is 3rd string. Plus it doesnt have to do with CP so i dont konw why you quoted me exactly.

Well you named someone who is a better blocker than LT, then I named someone...

And Haynes can definitely share carries with a first string guy on plenty of teams..he's a decent back.

Walter isn't far away from Barry and Brown in terms of greatness...Emmit...yeah he is.

Best all around back? Do you even know who Walter Payton is and what he did?

The best athlete of those is Jim Brown

Yeah, I guess I'd agree that Payton isn't too far behind Sanders or Brown. And yeah, Smith is without a doubt the worst, I don't even think he's the 4th best back, I'd say OJ was better for sure.

Hell I'd have a bunch of backs infront of Emmit...I actually have Gale Sayers at #4 on my list and goes up sometimes when I think about it... He only played for a couple of years due to his injuries but he was still one of the best.

It's hard comparing different backs because they are so different. Walter Payton did everything from passing, catching, running, and blocking. Jim Brown never blocked, but he was a bad ass runner. And you can't go and compare Jim and Barry because Jim was more power and Barry had those moves...and power...but not as much.

The best running back of all time is Barry sanders, he set records with a shitty ass offensive line, you put Barry Sanders in the place of Emmitt Smith then the Cowboys would have won 3 more titles, Emmitt Smith was only good because he had hell of a blockers.

Wow, Steelers, Giants, Redskins, and Eagles fans bashing Emmitt? What a surprise. He may not be the best of all time, but he did have a lot going for him. His o-line wasn't nearly as good for the second half of his career. I don't think the Cowboys would have been better with Barry. Emmitt may not have had the big play potential that Sanders did, but he was the most consistent RB in the history of the NFL. People sometimes confuse flashy with good, but the fact of the matter is that he was the perfect RB for the steady, grind-it-out offense that the Cowboys had back then.

How are we bashing him? We all know he was a great player, but he's not in the top 5 RBs.

Oh, and a Cowboy fan defending Emmitt...what a surprise :dunce:

I am not bashing Emmitt, I am just saying that if you put Barry Sanders in his spot with the Cowboys I am pretty sure that they would have atleast won 1 more super bowl. I mean c-mon, Barry didn't have an O-line and he made plays by himself, Emmitt had an O-line to help him out, Emmitt is a good back but Barry is better. And you say Emmitt was consistant, well he should be with that line.

I think I would switch my vote for Jim Brown, but i already voted for Barry. Both have just about same YPC which is what i value the most. Emmitt had just over 4, brown and barry had 5+ ypc in their careers.

Wu-tang
02-27-2006, 09:35 PM
Gale had a 5.0 average and probally could've gotten better if not for his damn injuries...Same for Bo Jackson. He had a better ypc average than Jim Brown but he only played a couple years because he got hurt so he didn't get enough carries to be allowed to get the record.
