Breakdown of the 3 systems and how they have an affect on PC gaming. Short, slightly biased, but worth a peak. Great links to resources.

PC owns all systems, but since I wanted to focus on xbox360/ps3 I voted for PS3 because i'm gonna buy one and it's gonna be beast.

PC for me. It usually ends up as the cheaper option if you download games because those console games can get pretty expensive. And I prefer using a KB/M for most games. Also, graphics is better.
By the way (to threadstarter), nice username - I like Thelonious Monk. Are you going to stick around on Ebaums (and post in the music section).

Yeah, but a truely awesome gaming PC would cost a lot more than a gaming system. Its money vs. performance. A system can play awesome graphics and not lag, all for the price of a basic PC.

03-11-2006, 12:38 AM
But you have to buy games on top of the console as well. Whereas, it's easy to download PC games for free :bigwink: .
Price vs performance comparisons all depend on how good your PC is (whether you would have one anyway, regardless of gaming) and whether you download or buy games (and how many).

For me Im gonna get them all, well because im just hardcore. Seriously thouhg if I had to choose one, right now i have my 360 and graw ( ghost recon advanced warrior ) adn oblivion is on the horizon of launching, im a very happy gamer. If your a real gamer you really have to own all three systems to get the exclusives, like halo for xbox, or the the metal gears and devil may cry for psx. What im saying is if you love video games, just get all of them.

Sucks. If you're going to advertise your own article, don't say it's "sweet". It's clearly biased, the arguments don't hold any sensible ground. However, if you're 9, my apologies: it's a good article then.
I have a life, school and work. I don't want games that last 80 hours and I don't need saves, or a Hard Drive or a frikkin expensive Microsoft Live account, and don't want to learn complex controls. I just want pick-up-and-play and arcade-style games. (And something that's not too nerdy and somewhat enjoyable to the misses.)

Obviously a PC is way better than any console game, but it also costs a whole hell of a lot more. The advantage of things like the xbox is that it's really easy to get a multiplayer LAN game going in seconds. In my house we have 3 xboxs and are constantly playing 10-12 player halo games, it's hard to get PC lan games of that size going as easily. I assume with the 360 it'll be even easy to get sweet multiplayer games going. I assume I'll end up buying either the xbox 360, PS3, or Revolution, but I'm going to wait a while to see which is really the best and to let the price tag drop a little bit.

Nintendo only because of backward compatibility & the fact that they are finally taking a system online other than Phantasy Star Online Episode 1&2 for the cube. =\

you actually download whole games for PC? you sick disgusting fuck...just kidding, what do you use? i tried downloading warcraft 3 on limewire but i had a real hard time getting results and had a really shitty download speed, i usually download at about 300 kb/sec but with this it was going at like 10kb, so i became very angry and terminated the download.
ediot: oh yeah, i went for pc, because you can probably upgrade it so that ti can compete with the current next generation console or at least come close to, and you can do so as new things come out.

Wow, that's smart: put two systems that we haven't even seen any in-game action of and put them against two systems that are already out.
Because PS3 and Revolution are just dreams right now, I'm gonna have to go with Xbox 360 cause PC gaming is only for spoild rich kids.

I voted for PC, but only because that's all i have now, outside of a Dreamcast.
The consoles are better though mainly because to buy a great gaming system costs just $150-$400, whereas a gaming PC will cost $500-$1000. You also have to worry about hardware incompatibilities with a PC, which never exist in a console.

Bit Torrent is made up 3 main things:
* Your BT client program (i.e. Bit Lord, Azureus, Bit Tornado etc)
* Your torrent files. These are small files which aren't what you're actually downloading. They only provide the link to what you're downloading.
* Your torrent. This is what you're actually downloading.
Basically, you go to a tracker website such as http://thepiratebay.com which is a place where people add torrent files. When you find a torrent you want, you download its (tiny) torrent file. You open it in your BT client program, and it will start downloading the torrent.
On the websites, they list the torrents with numbers of seeders and leechers. Seeders are people who have fully downloaded that torrent - since they have it you can download it off them. Leechers are people who are downloading the torrent. If they have any data (of the torrent) that you don't have, then you can download off them as well. Your client handles all of this...
Basically, the idea is to download a torrent which has plenty of seeders, so you get good speeds. You probably want to limit your uploading speed to 80% of your max upload speed.
Tell me if you need anything else.

ok, i think i understand now, i didn't know what the seeders and leechers were, i remember i searched for some program once but didn't understand what i was looking at, thank you so much, i really appreciate it. is it possible to find just about anything on torrent? i imagine there is a much broader range of files than limewire or imesh.

yes you can find anything... but its mostly for files that are new and just released. So its hard to find old things sometimes but if you want all the new stuff that doesnt come out. I would use torrent. Also with torrents theres alot less virus'. ive downloaded 1 thing that had spyware but still no virus'. Ive been downloading with torrents for a long time now. And i would say 98%the files are not misnamed.

Do you have a specific two hour chunk each month that you play? On you calender is there written in when you're planning on playing? Like, the 2nd saturday of each month - 2 hour video game period.

Yeah its biased, but I have had bad expiriences with Sony and Nintendo...
It's also not a false argument. The specs for the systems when compared side by side prove that ps3 is technically better, but the difference would mostly be too small to tell.
How about a list of why one system is better than th other...
Oh, and for pc gamers... this is what im getting: "pcs are better because we can pirate our software of the internet, while systems cannot..."

A look at xbox vs. 360

------------------------------------------------------------------
From: http://www.psp-console.com/articles/XBOX__360_vs_PS3_an_in_Depth_Look.html
Everyone has seen an Xbox and a PS2 in action and we are all waiting to see which of the two next generation consoles for the two systems will have the edge when it comes to graphics. We have all seen the screenshots of the games on the two systems but what about actual gameplay graphics. Despite the hot debate, when you look at the numbers the two systems use a different but equally effective method of delivering graphics processing power. The XBOX uses a custom ATI processor with 48 graphics pipelines and the PS2 has a custom NVIDA graphics processor with an estimated 24 pipelines. The numbers are misleading because the PS2 piplines are more powerful than the XBOX pipelines. In the end the two different graphics processors will deliver about the same amount of power, we can expect to see impressive results from both sides.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, here is a quick example...
http://www.gamershell.com/screenpop.php?id=172770
vs.
http://www.bizarreonline.net/img/screenshots/pgr3/21.jpg
Without actually playing ingame, it is impossible to tell what graphics are better. It also depends on the game. PS3 will have games with better graphics and the 360 will have games with better graphics. In the above, both have truly amazing graphics.
Hey, think about it, DaVinci had great graphics, but they are not that much fun to play with now are they...
It is all in the games and what you can do in the games. If the graphics look real enough, it doesnt matter if you can see the cigar smoke on a random guy a block away, because you are not going to be looking for him, you are going to be playing.
PS: here are some PS3 graphics that dont look like cinematics...

Screw PS3, XBOX 360, REVOLUTION, and PC's. Go outside and play some real games. Or just drive around. Driving in a real car on a real road is way funner than in a videogame.
