Haiti 1994 operation restore democracy :
I was in the 10th mountain division for about a year and a half when I got deployed to the Island og Haiti in operation restore democracy . Basically all fighting , what little there was , has ended and my whole division is basically there to run operations within a peace keeping force . I didn't see any action at all . Cept on this one day lol .
After about 3 months there my unit was headed back to FT.Drum but there was a call fo voluteers to stay behind for base security so I volunteered right away . I mean hell , it was an extra $150 bucks a month to hang out on an Island for we got hazardous dudty benifits . So the next thing you know I'm attched to the MP's and under their command . All we had to do was guard duty , but it had it's draw backs . Sitting in the sun with little shade is a bitch let me tell you . Sitting there for 12 hours a day listening to poor villagers beg non-stop get real agrivating . But things got really tempered whn your up in a gaurd tower , 20 ft high , and some villager jumps over the barrbed wire and hauls ass into your camp before you can make it down the ladder . Now you have some guy running around looking for shit to steel and you have no idea where he is now , and it's getting dark . You call it in , get bitched at but hear nothing else . At that point you feel like you just fucked up , and you did .
Things got so bad that one night during a rainstorm villagers got through the 3 spools of barbed wire and stole 50 gallons of gas , 10 55 gallon drums of oil and a full case of 9mm pistols that were held in an MRE case !!! All over night under the cover of rain . The barbed wired was bearly disturbed - amazing they could get all that shit out of there without being noticed . Simply amazing .
Anyhow I was doing this guard duty for about 4 months now among other things . But this one day I had enough . There were al least 20 kids , adults , teenagers all trying to beg for this and that . Non stop for 12 hours . I thought to myself " holy fucking shit , I haven't handed out shit let alone even aknowldgr these guys and they are still at it hour after hour - WTF over !?!?!?"
It was getting near noon and it was turn to go grab some chow . I climb down the ladder and head to the mess hall . On my way there I see a market with all kinds of shit for sale . We let a lot of villagers in the camp to bolster up the economy , soldiers buy eveything they had . So I quickly duck in the mart real quick and to my suprise I find a slingshot .
At this point I gotta back up here . Think about it . All I have ia an M-60 with 200 rounds , my M-16 A1 rifle and a few clips . I certainly can't start shooting people begging for food even though they cross the wire and infiltrate the base - it was orders . Hell , i didn't want to kill anyone so hungery anyhow . Anyway I tried pepper spray , i tried yelling , i tried acting as if I'm GONIG to shoot people but all they do is look at me like " go ahead and shoot me , least I won't have to starve anymore ". So there was really no way to get people away from the wire . Untill now Muwahahahaha .
I buy the "fistibal" Creole for slingshot the Haitian sales man tells me . I stuff it in my poket and head for the chow hall . As I'm eating and suffering a food coma I day dream about pegging people on the wire while they are not looking . I figure a fight will ensue . I can just lay back as the fight unravles and I can hit people without them ever noticing lol . Boy , was I wrong , really wrong .
After chow I literally jogged back to my post . I collected about 20 marble sized rocks and put them in my pocket . I climbed the ladder to my post . My buddy was like " WTF TOOK YOU SO LONG !?!?!? " . I just smiled and pulled out the slingshot saying ""fistibal !" . He looked at me a smiled , he knew what was coming .
Theres about 15 kids and teenagers across the wire at this point . Some looking at me begging , some not . I waited patiently for the moment that no one was lookingat me to strike . When my chance came up I took aim and let one rip . I hit this kid right in the chest first shot . He yells out and and looks around frantically , standing up and looking all around . Then after some words with everyone around him he looked drectly at me - I mean right into my eyes . This kid is only about 12 years old and the look he gave me went right through me let me tell you lol . He knew it was me for sure . I load another rock into the slingshot and let it rip . I yelled "get the fuck out of here " . As the second shot hit another kid eveyone was looking right at me and my buddy . They all ran for cover . Most of them took off running really far away to a wall that was about 50 yards away . I wasn't hitting them at that distance but they certainly had to keep an eye on me and doge the incoming rounds lol . After they all left I thought to myself " Finally some fucking rest and peace ! " . Ic ouldn't have been more wrong .
About 30 minutes later I hear this strange noise coming from that wall . Something being dragged . I can see all these kids with this big blue thing and they have all 4 corners of it in thier hands and they are making good ground .
I watched them in curiosicty more then anything , I had no fear and I was really curoius to find out what was in the blue tarp so i let them advance .
Next thing you know more kids from the left join in and about 15 of these kids are all gethering something out of the big blue tarp . Just when I realized what it actually was in the blue tarp it was too late for me to do anything about it .
Now this is the funny part . I know what is going to happen but there isn't a fucking thing I can do about it . I can't shoot them , I can't call for backup for it would be too embarrasing to do and I can't fight back with the only thing that I CAN fight back with because I am simply outmunbered lol .
What happed is that these kids found a blue tarp and filled it with handmade mudballs - hundreds of mudballs ! And when 15 kid throw mudballs at you , and your stuck in a 10x10ft tower - YOUR FUCKED ! These kids formed a firing line and let it rip . Mudballs hit me in the helmet , hit the radio gumming up the controls , hit the M-60 right in the blet feed probably making it prone to jamming without a dout , hitting all around us and bouncing off the posts getting into my eyes . Now all of my equipent is dirty , I'm blind and I have no choice but to take a knee and try to clear the mud from my watering eyes !
Shit happened so fast I didn'y know what to do LOL . I GOT FUCKING OWNED !
To wrap things up I waved my hand and said " OK <OK <OK YOU WIN!!!! " . I peeked over the top and saw all of them with smiles on thier faces . Lil bastards knew they won the fight lol . I climed down to the wire and exstended my hand to shake . The " leader " ( oldest amongst them ) shook my hand and said something in creole I didn't understand .
Later on that night I went to the mess hall and grabbed a few MRE's while on a "piss break" . I gave then to the kids that were part of the assault lol . From that point on I learned they were all orphans and didn't have any place to live . They built a hut to sleep in at night under my prtection and in return kept the wire " clear " of all beggers and drug selliners lol . They were like my personal body gaurds in return for food - and food I gave them . I wrote in marker on the insdie walls of the tower that these guys were cool and should be respected lol - otherwise you might get fucking OWNED ! Like I did hahahahahahahahaha .
Aw shit I forgot something . There was this one cool guy named wilson . He spoke perfect English . I assked him what this word meant , the word that the "leader " told me . Wilson said the word was "friends" . The next day I saw the "leader" and said "friends" in his language . He just smiled and said the same .
So from that point on no one , I mean no one fucked with that side of the wall again . These kids would gang up an adaults and kick thier asses if I ponted at one of them and Said " Him " lol . It was amazing lol .
