God damn it! I have the game but a can't fucking play it because I don't have the right video card or RAM. Someone please find me a specific video card or RAM drive that I can get for a reasonable price that works good on this game and I will give you buttsechs every day for the rest of my life.:boink:
Anyone? I would really like to join in your interesting conversation about Oblivion but I can't because the game doesn't run on my damn computer and the only time I can play is at my friends house. Please help me out.

Have not played as much as I wanted too lately. I did find a vampire coven though, and tore those guys up hard. I have found a sword with silence on it really makes me tough to beat against casters (sneak up behind them and wham). I am going to go after Umbras sword next as I am tired of having a shock sword.

Damn, Umbra is kicking my ass. I read somewhere that you can get her to follow you back to the Imperial city and the guards will take care of her, but I haven't been able to accomplish that yet. I use my staff of paralysis to freeze her for a few seconds so I can get away from her, but she's pretty fast.

Theres a secret spot\pillar in wich you stand, and she can't hit you. So you just fire away with arrows or spells.

Check the gamespot guide for more info.

How the hell can I kill a will-o-wisp? They drain my life faster than I can damage them.
I'm a melee based character, with very little spells. I'm nord though, so that grants me that handy 40 pt frost shock. Any clues? And special weaknesses they perhaps have?

Not sure about their weaknesses but I have good success in using a lot of power attacks. Also, I nice drain health scroll would help you out (abosrb health)

Just play the game for a while, you'll get money.

The golden rule is not to pay for anything anyway, unless you can't avoid it.

Explore caves, kill stuff, pick up stuff till you're full, go to town and sell it, go back to the cave, clear it out (normally there's an end-boss kinda), get some nice loot, and either sell it or keep it.

I had like $2,500 dollars. then I found Dorian's house in Talos plazza's south eastern quadrant in the imperial city. I killed him...went to jail...came back and his body was still there. He had 28 gold and every time i took it...it never went away i just kept taking and taking it.so i have over $100,000 now.
you'll need lockpicks for the front door though I think.

edit: this was on a 360 though not PC

I am not sure, I never had much problem with the scamps, I keep my block up until I can get close then I smack them over their little heads. I think a part of their attacks are blocked with a sheild though. I use a sheild almost all the time, but can see where a Fire resist enchant or something might make a 2h viable.

Found something interesting in TESCS earlier...
From all my TESCS searches, I've concluded that this is the only decent armor item you can get from being level 1 (without cheating of course).

Just west of Anvil there is a small island. Just off the west coast of that island, there is a large rock on the sea bed. Next to that rock is a (dead) skeleton with an enchanted glass helmet that gives you Water Breathing, Nighteye and low-range Detect Life (20 feet).
Even if it's no use to you, it's worth 2400 gold.

Eh, Besides the main quest, the games getting a little repedative. I just don't see any real motivation like morrowind anymore.

Indeed. With my last character I just got bored because I was doing the same stuff and doing it easily. So I started again.

I've decided I much prefer Morrowind to Oblivion. I think the "Fast Travel" feature has spoiled the feel of the game a little (although it's arguably necessary in Oblivion, due to the sheer size of Cyrodiil).
I always loved travelling through the wilderness in Morrowind, and it always seemed like a relief when you reached your destination. You really got a feel for each of the different cities.

Another thing that's been bugging me about Oblivion is the audio dialogue. With the minor characters it's very inconsistent. I've spoken to beggars that speak like frail old hags in one sentence, and then sound like a young noble when asked about something else. Little things like that really break my suspension of disbelief.

Xx Sephiroth xX
04-15-2006, 06:29 AM
I use the fast travel only when I wanna to get some where quick. But if I wanna explore and see what I can find i just walk around in the wild.

You're silly. All you have to do is talk to the guy at the bar, tell him you killed his mom, and he'll attack you first, therefore making HIM the outlaw. The guard actually killed him FOR me :P. For the daughter that's actually a guard, i tried the same thing, and she called the guards lol, so i just murked her and payed off my fines to the thieves guild.

04-15-2006, 06:01 PM
What is oldblivion?
Oldblivion is a piece of software which allows graphics cards which are pre DirectX9 to run Elder Scrolls: Oblivion from Bethesda. This means that Oblivion can run on cards such as Geforce 3, Geforce 4, Radeon 9200 and so on. Oldblivion is still in an early development phase but it's fairly stable, however there still are a few bugs and kinks to work out.

If you actually opened up the link, that would be the first thing you would see.

The higest level "creature" in the game is Mehrunes Dagon (white text, possible spoiler) at level 100, who is also by far the largest.
Other than that, I think Minotaur Lords are the biggest. Dunno where you can fight them though, except at the Arena.

I agree with a lot of you that the leveling sucks. I beat the Dark Brotherhood at level 4 and just beat the Fighters guild at my current level of 7. Since the bosses are leveled to me and I have sweet weapons I can cruise through the quests without any difficulty. In one of the DB quests I think it was, I killed a Battlemage leveled 20 above my own (I opted not to use the mead and just to kill him straight up) I feel like I have beaten a lot of the game and my level does not equal my progress in the game. Any one else feel like this?

On a side note what is the most you have fenced? I have fenced around 10,000 all to Ongar.

I have the full Umbra set (from killing Umbra... duH) and she was pretty easy.. took a few attempts but i killed her eventually.

Just stand facing them (not sure how close you have to be, but a few feet away seems to work) for about 2 minutes. It can seem like a long time whilst you're doing it, but it's pretty quick - just face them and go make a cup of coffee or something, it'll be done by the time you get back. When it's done, a message box pops up.

I've found that it doesn't work for the people you see in guild training rooms (shooting arrows at targets for example). I tried leaving it for above 10 minutes with various people, but got nothing.

anyways : http://www.cheatcc.com/pc/elderscrolls4oblivioncheatscodes.html

Sample: i thought it was prety funny actually :p

Easy items
Enter any store, but do not break in. Find a location where it is dark enough so that when you crouch down, the eye becomes transparent. Then, find items laying around the store (weapons and armor shop) and punch them into the dark corner. Crouch down and pick it up undetected. This is usefull for advancing in the Theives Guild.

oh yeah, also... if you have shadowmere, hes considered an important character and can not die, he only goes unconcious, and cause hes an animal, you can loot his body... or put stuff on... thats right, hes storage :p just knock him unconcious to get the stuff off him... dont know if there is a limit or not yet...

HAHAHA another funny one :p
Take a large item and set it on a chair. Then, sit in the chair and you will launch the item across the room. Try this with watermelons

i concur, the cheats are at the bottom...

EDIT------------

you guys suck at posting :p

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/fms/TopRated.php?content=oblivionmods

Thats a list of mods, most of them improve gameplay... just little things like, giving the shop keepers more money to barter... im sick of selling really expensive items for a grand... and also an attack and re-hide thing, where they cant sense you through walls and such...

theres also a boobies one for ya :p and lots of new items if you want them...

When you come to the pool with slaughterfish, dive into it. There is a tunnel inside the pool, under some rocks, that should lead you on the right path to Fathis' lair.

After some snooping around in the scripts for that quests, I've come up with this workaround for the PC version. Unfortunately it won't work for the 360 version because there's no console.

In console type:
set MS40.bloodgrassvar 2

That should make it as if you've given her the bloodgrass.

I wanted to know where are all the good weapons and armor at? I was reading a book about all these good weapons and armor but it seems almost impossible to find these things. I know when your in the fighters guild you see some pretty good items but I want something rare and hard to find. I also wanted to know where you can find some strong monsters to fight in the game and after you are finished with the thieves guild and he tells you that you are the new leader how do you tell them what to do. Because in the fighters guild you tell the one guy about what you want them to do for that month. One more thing what is the purpose of the gray fox's mask, I mean when you put it on the guards are going to look at you and say your the gray fox and then you have to run from them. I'd like the mask more if the guards didn't come. Damn I wrote to much. Sorry about that. :uhoh:

what is the purpose of the gray fox's mask

1) Don't wear it in populated areas, silly.
2) Put it on, kill someone in plain view of the guards, then take it off and yield to them (hold block and "activate" the guard). They won't think you've done anything wrong, because you're no longer the Gray Fox. Now tell me you don't like it ;)

Oh, so there is no one Gray Fox. He is many different people. Ah ha. That's why the guards can never catch him.

Lord Ignus
04-24-2006, 09:50 PM
Not quite.
There's only ever one Gray Fox at any given time, but the magic of it makes the wearer completely unrecognisable. For instance, if you wore the Cowl and told someone exactly who you really are, they just wouldn't remember.
So as soon as you put it on, you cease being John Smith (or whatever your name might be) and become the Gray Fox. And when you take it off, you're John Smith again. "I didn't do it, it was the Gray Fox! Do you see the Gray Fox here? No, I didn't think so. I'll just be on my way officer" :D

I'm currently working on adding a display hall to the house you can buy in Skingrad. The display cases just aren't enough, in my opinion.

A door will be added to the basement of the house, leading to a large hall with a high ceiling, like a castle great-hall. (The added door/stairs are the only thing I've done so far)
There will be pedestals on which you can display each piece of armor from all of the sets, and appropriate places (probably large display cases) for the corresponding weapons.
I've only just started work on it, so I'll take any suggestions into consideration. Bear in mind that I can't create new models, I can only work with objects/architecture already contained in the game. When I'm done (probably in a few days) I'll upload the appropriate files so you can enjoy the extra content.

Perhaps I'll also add a quest to get a unique weapon/piece of armor/amulet etc.
The idea I'm thinking about at the moment involves an NPC who is a collector of weapons and armor, who will give you special items once you complete certain sets for him.

unearth
04-26-2006, 01:49 AM
Glad you mentioned the house in Skingrad. I was trying to buy it earlier, and the orc you have to talk to kept jumping around on my map. First it said she was in the castle, so as soon as I got to the castle gate it said she was in the city...so I go to the city gate and she jumps to the castle again. What the hell?

Lord Ignus
04-26-2006, 10:52 AM
You probably just caught the NPC in a busy part of its daily routine... Just wait in the castle for an hour at a time.

Console command to get the house in Skingrad without talking to Shum gro-Yarug:

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AT LEAST 25,000 GOLD BEFORE DOING THIS, OTHERWISE YOU'RE A FILTHY CHEAT

This command will automatically take the gold from you, give you the house key, set you as the owner of the house and put the correct entry in your journal (thereby allowing you to buy upgrades from Gunder):

SetStage HouseSkingrad 10

:)

If anyone else is having trouble with quests (due to bugs, not just because you can't be bothered) I'll be happy to put up the console workarounds.

unearth
04-27-2006, 12:23 AM
Meh...I'd rather not do it with a cheat but if that's the only way then I guess I'm stuck.

Lord Ignus
04-27-2006, 10:49 AM
It's really not a cheat at all. It has the exact same effect as telling Shum gro-Yarug that you're ready to buy the house (so long as you have at least 25,000 gold).
You won't get it for free, and you won't skip any sort of quest.

"SetStage HouseSkingrad 10" is the very same function the game executes when you tell Shum gro-Yarug that you want to buy the house.

Edit: If it would make you feel any better, I'll send you a tiny mod that will let you buy the house from somebody else :p

I don't know if this will help, but I found this bit of dialogue in TESCS whilst making a quest:
{regarding Shum gro-Yarug}"You mean other than at the Castle? Hmmm. He's around town at midday. Try the Colovian Trader and the West Weald Inn."

2am is a good time to break in, the owners are usually in bed.

Nah there are no more things that size, but you can resize things in the editor, I'll try that later - a 30 foot long rat :D

Sadly, this game has a new found exploit: "Tank magic". Making a touch spell do X damage with 100% weakness to fire/frost/shock + 100% weakness to magic. Damage increses exponentially, and this proves the magic is overpowered theory. Ultimately caused the death of my enjoyment of the game. GG Oblivion.

1. You need to get access to the arcanum university by getting the recommendations from each mage guild, then you have to go into one of the rooms, i forget what its called, but they have what look like book holders. Go up to one of those and 'use' it, then, depending on what spells you have learnt, you can enchant your items.

OR You can collect the Sigil stones from closing the Oblivion gates, they do the same thing too. Be aware that they get better as your level does, you get the best at about level 20, they're called transcendant i believe.

2. No, but it doesnt matter. There is no real time limit on the quests, so you can do them whenever you want. Just stack them up as you go, then when you get bored, do one of them. I still havn't done the fishing for scales one yet.

3. You need Soul Gems, and they need to have souls in them. They greater the soul in the gem, the more points you get back. OR you can find people at the mages guilds who will do it for a fee, but they can sometimes be very expensive.

A pointer for that one is go and kill Umbra, cause her sword has soul trap, then carry around soul gems, then you can recharge that sword and others whenever necessary...

For those of you having a hard time playing this game because of performance issues, try tweaking your .ini file for oblivion (http://www.tweakguides.com/Oblivion_1.html). I run it on a laptop with everything on high and get around 30-40 fps outdoors (like forests and fields), 40-50 fps in the cities, and 45-55 fps indoors.

Dell Inspiron 9300
256MB Nvidia GeForce Go 6800 Graphics Card
1GB DDR2 RAM
2Ghz Processor

The tweaking helped like mad..

Anyway, to my question. I'm stuck right before the last thieve's guild quest, where I have to fence at least 1000 worth of stolen goods prior to starting the quest. Everytime I speak to my fence, Father Ules, he tells me "Our business is done." and I can't sell anymore goods to him, preventing me from doing that last quest. Anyone know what's up?

Lord Ignus

Fathis Ules, he tells me "Our business is done." and I can't sell anymore goods to him, preventing me from doing that last quest. Anyone know what's up?

You can still use any of the other Guild fences.
Never heard of that problem though, I'll have a look in the Construction Set.

Edit: Ok, it's something to do with a quest called "Sins of the Father" which involves getting the "Honorblade of Chorrol" for Fathis Ules.
Once you complete that, Ules will only ever say "Our business is done" or "You've made your choice, now leave", depending how you finished the quest.

I don't know whether this is intentional, or a scripting error.
If you don't want to use the other fences, I can make a plugin file that will let you keep talking to him after he says "Our business is done".

Edit 2: I've done the plugin file, it's only 1kb, a tiny alteration. If you PM me your email address I'll send it to you.

I just got my Xbox 360 and Oblivion on tuesday, and I must say that it's fucking amazing. First time I started it, I was in awe when I saw the graphics. And when I left the dungeon, it looked so good that I just walked around for half an hour.

But since I'm new to the game I have a few noob questions:
1) how do you pick a lock on the 360?
2) WTF happened with the persuasion, in other words what should I do because I end up making everyone angry.

Playing Oblivion also learned me that I can't place my Xbox 360 vertically, because It'll get problems reading the disk and they are both (Xbox 360 and disc) brand new.:banghead: Why say that you can put him vertically when that obviously doesn't work:err:

1) Push up for each section of the lock. Push A when it is locked into the top. It takes a lot of timing.

2) Look at their faces. If the face is smiling, that means you will be rewarded more persuasion points if you press A on that section. Each section has a different facial expression.

don't blame your lack of willpower on the game. But yeah there are a bunch of problems with it, luckily (if you have the pc version) there are tons of mods than can take care of everything. The compass, the level scaling, etc.

When you go to buy furniture, you'll usually be told who to buy it from. The person won't say anything interesting, but you'll find the furniture deeds in their inventory among everything else.

Green Bananas? I have to agree that the way NPC's and creatures are leveled is a little annoying, especially as a spellcaster because I level really fast! So I end up with good powers but shitty spells and I'm up against an agro killer Minotaur that used to be a rat! I think the creatures should all start at once no matter how high a level they are, then you can hunt a minotaur if you want or just wander around killing wolves.

Silverspade, If you still have it loaded on your computer, get a crack fix! Then you can play CD free, for free!

You have to be modest. Choose the answer that isn't about your achievements or he just dismisses you because you clearly don't need help becoming great.

If that wasn't enough info check - http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Oblivion
