Since Oblivion was released today, I'm sure many people are going to want to talk about it and have questions and/or be able to offer help or strategies on character creation and combinations of skills, quest tactics, character builds, and so on. Since the game is brand new, try to avoid any kind of quest spoilers.

Also feel free to use this thread for any kind of PC tweak advice for making the game run better, as it has high hardware demands.

I'm installing now...I can't wait to play it.

Dont murder anyone right away. Bad things happen ><

Actually, practice with the "journal system" and get used to moving items about in inventory. Its a bit clunky.

Ok, basics first. Stupid question but you have a DVD drive and not a CD-Rom only right?

Oblivion will only run with a DVD drive.

You pretty much have to have God's computer to run this damn game. It runs fine for me in dungeons, but when I'm in the overworld it's choppy as hell, and I'm above the minimum requirements.

512mb ram
2.4 ghz pentium 4 processor
radeon 9800pro 128 mb video card

Even with all that I have to run it on a low resolution and it's choppy as all hell. This is disappointing.

I brought the game today, and I got home quickly to install it but once I got into the game I quickly decided to quit the game and uninstall, it's a great game folks. Wonderful......

I forgot to get a new graphics card.

unearth
03-22-2006, 12:28 AM
You need more than that, I think. It's the card, ram, and processor speed combined. Mine still isn't running too good. I just updated my drivers though so hopefully that will help.

A word of advice, keep every lockpick you find. They don't weigh anything and with the new lockpick 'mini game', you're going to be breaking lots of them.

damn.. i have to wait until i can summon up 550 dollars for a new pc to play this game. i've bacically been gathering up every single thing i can sell in my house. i have 125 right now.. almost there :uhoh:

just6 look at this pc though crazy crazy stuff (http://cgi.ebay.ca/eBay-Lowest-Price-on-Pentium-D-Dual-Core-Complete-Sys_W0QQitemZ8780817399QQcategoryZ51146QQtcZphotoQ QcmdZViewItem) and it's only 555 (CANADIAN!!) all i need is a video card and i should be good to go.

and from what i've seen minimum requirments just mean you can run the game.. not that it's playable

and guy up there, you should download a program called fraps. it allows you to record videos and take more than one screen at a time.

I am not that far in yet, just exploring and the like. The inventory system sucks but otherwise I am pretty happy with that game. Riding a horse is hard as hell, its like driving a fork truck.

unearth
03-22-2006, 04:28 PM
Yeah, the horse controls were kinda hard to figure out at first but you get used to it. I also liked the inventory setup much better in Morrowind. I keep forgetting that in this game you don't have to follow the main quest, you can do whatever you want. I guess I'll roam around and try to get some better equipment and level up a bit before I continue with what I'm doing now. I need to find a city that has guilds and stuff so I can get started on that.

I closed the gate (hella fun area/tower to run through btw...I used the stone from closing the gate (signal stone?) to enchant my sword to shock the enemy on hit.). The court yard took 3-4 tries, but I figured out that if I went for the draemora thing first in the broken down house things went smoother with the Clannifers and Scamps. Just made level 8. Starting to get some decent stuff including a full set of Blades armor.

YOu ought to be able to do it at 3, the mobs are near your level at all times, so if you go higher you get higher. If you cleared the the tower you should be able to take on the court yard. You are going in with the guard right?

Maybe, just remember as you level all mobs scale up with you. So at level 3 you are fighting lvl 3ish mobs. Its a weird system where I have heard of rats killing lvl 15 players.

I'm a crusader...those little dinosaur things are giving me hell. All the guards die very fast so it's just me left to deal with all the monsters. I decided to go exploring down the road and I found some caves and have leveled up my skills so I'll go back soon. This game is so huge, it took me twenty minutes riding on horseback just to get halfway to Skingrad from the first Oblivion gate. Then I got sidetracked in this huge tomb which is where I'm at now.

What classes are there in this game?

evilmittens
03-24-2006, 08:20 PM
I am playing a custom class, combat-mage (almost like a battlemage but using blades instead of blunt).

Pink, there are something like 15 classes from acrobats, warriors, theif, paladins..etc...to an option to make a custom class.

unearth
03-24-2006, 09:40 PM
The only thing that really matters is the sign you are born under, because you get different special skills. Other than that, your class doesn't really matter much except for in the very beginning. As you go along in the game you can master every skill, get all the spells, etc...by the time I finished Morrowind I was the head of every guild, I had every spell and was strong as hell, so my original class choice of 'rogue' didn't really even factor anymore.

I just joined the Mages guild in Skingrad in this game. You have to get 'recommendations' from every mages guild before you can even start going up the ranks...this game is ridiculously huge.

Towedwart
03-25-2006, 03:30 AM
There are 21 classes premade.

I just can't wait to start buying houses and filling them with stuff.

I'm playing the game at highest settings, 1600x1200, 4xAA, etc. Runs perfect, overworld semi-choppy depnding on how many mobs are around.

Been playing for a couple days now, and even though I'm still an "Apprentice" on my Security skill, I can usually pick a lock without breaking a pick. Even the "Very hard" ones. Took me a while to realise it wasn't just random.

I'm playing a custom class.
Race: Nord
Sign: Lady
Skills: Blade, Light Armor, Security, Athletics, Block, Alchemy, Armorer. A good mix of stuff I think.

I'm also a vampire which is pretty cool. Some nice stat and skill bonuses if you can put up with having to feed regularly.

While in the game, hit the tilde key [~] at any time to bring up the console. With the console open, there are multiple commands that can be used, some that require targeting by selecting an object with the mouse while the console is open.

Click a locked door or chest, type "unlock"/ Unlocks target object
rofl cheat owns!!!

or

The lockpicking portion of the game will appeal to you "twitch" gamers out there. The trick is the hit the button and just the right time. It's tricky..and yes the autoAttempt may work better since it is based on your current skill level, whereas attempting it manualy is based on your own personal twitch skills.

Lord Ignus
03-25-2006, 04:19 PM
When you push a tumbler up with your pick, only press/click if it moves upward slowly/smoothly.
If it kinda "snaps" upward, wait until it falls down and push it again. If it goes up smoothly, press/click when it hits the top.

With this method you should be able to pick any lock very early in the game, and you won't break a single pick once you get used to it. :)

Well anyways if your motherboard has an agp port then get a agp card or get a new computer/motherboard with pci express on it.

In Jaerl's house, you'll find a little trap door under the carpet of her room. I didn't see this also, and was very confused. So go gadget go, and do it.

Unearth hows your oblivion career going?

I've just restarted a new character because my first character was ab it messed up, I had speech craft and merc because it thought it would be a nice addition to my character. But it sucks for me.

I'm now a lv 18 Imperial, I use a sword and am good with destruction magic. Just then became the champion of the Imperial City Area.

I'm now going to continue my main quest, hop fully pick up some goodies.

(Btw, tips for anyone having a hard time with the final guy in the arena, if you use a blade and have sideways power attack, keep doing it to him until his sword is knocked out of his hand, then pick it up, this will leave him very weak!)

There's an even easier way to beat him ;)
Don't wanna spoil it for anyone, so highlight this if you wanna know:

At any time when you're in the room where you arrange Arena fights, talk to the grand champion orc guy about "Gray Prince". He'll send you on a quest. If you complete it, he'll just stand there and let you kill him when you fight him for the top spot.

Heh, as a thief class I'm not really having much trouble with gold, as I can steal pretty much anything that isn't nailed to the ground. I'm quite a successful pickpocket too.
Just now I stole the keys to Castle Cheydinhal from someone's pocket, and went on a looting spree :D
Eventually got caught picking a lock. I paid my fine of 5 septims, then went and stole all my pilfered goods back: +++$$$

I have seen about 12 gates now, but I have only closed 3 total and I am working on my 4th. This 4th one has been the hardest so far. I keep getting 3 to 4 guys attacking me at once.

The other day I was following this woman for someone and a black guy started following the both of us. I backed off and when I did he moved in closer to the woman and robbed her. then the guards came and killed him, it was great.
Thats great! I just killed some spies and took down another gate. I have 3 pieces of Orcish armor now. Fuck, I cant carry anything else now :(

I'm a level 64 Imperial.

Scorpp man, nice level. Still loving the game? even more maybe?

Anyway unearth, don't worry about money. When I started up I saved up all my gold for a steel set, then on my next quest a guard died and I looked in his body and guess what i saw? steel set...

Buying armor is a waste of money, same as weapons, you can find it all in oblivion gates. My friend has started an alch/thief and shes rolling in the cash and the only skills shes leveled up is sneak and alch. Seems abit boring to me though, if rather hit shit with a sword.

I like how its got guides on the "radar" for each quest on oblivion, unlike morrowind which made it abit boring trying to find all these locations.

I can't believe some of you have beaten this already. I'm taking it very slow, deliberately trying to explore every part of the map. When I was playing Morrowind, I discovered a cave that had the remnants of Indiana Jones in it along with a letter he wrote, a little easter egg in the game.

As far as vampirism, how do you contract it and how do you get rid of it? I entered a cave near Skingrad that was full of vampires but I didn't get any disease from them.

Its sneaky the vampire thing, you get hit with a disease and after three days you wake up a vampire. Its really easy to miss the words on the upper left corner of the screen. its You contracted Psomething Hemosomething. Hurts your fatigue really badly. If you use a cure disease or go to a temple it will be cured.

Lord Ignus
03-29-2006, 09:58 AM
Yeah I think you get the disease (something hemophilia) if you're hit by a vampire when fighting one.
As evilmittens said, that's real easy to cure, at a temple or with a potion.
But if you leave it untreated and develop full-blown vampirism, it's a bitch to get the cure.

The easiest way to become a vampire is by doing the DB quests.

After you're done with your first boss (the guy that gives you contracts) he will offer to turn you into one.

I find it fun to be a vampire. I got rid of it rather fast though, so people would talk to me.

Yeah I got that with one of my first characters. Not sure why that one counts as a murder and the rest don't.
This time around I didn't want to wait until then to join the DB, so I just shot a beggar in the back while he was asleep :ahhh:

One thing that's been winding me up about Oblivion is that you can't wear a full set of armour underneath robes.

From the manual:
The crafts of Spellmaking and Enchanting are secrets of the Mages Guild. Achieve the proper rank in the Mages Guild, and you are given access to the Altar of Spellmaking and the Altar of Enchanting in the Arcane University, and instructed in their uses.

Anyway, if you want to get rid of vampirism:

Talk to someone in a church (any church) about the cure for it. Then you will be lead to a few people all around the map until you reach an old ladies house, shes a witch. do some shit for her and get some ingredients and Sally's your sister, you're done. Vampirism is cool though. When you're a full vamp you get +5 to all stats, or most of them and a few really strong spells.

5 Grand Soul gems, then some text, then...

6 Garlic. 5 Nightshade. Blood of an Argonian from an enchanted dagger. 2 Bloodgrass. Ashes of the Vampire King.

After that, she cures you. You also get an invisible extra one that you take to the count of Skingrad to "cure" his wife.

Chorral: There are no goblins in Oblivion. Do you mean Scamps?

Ignus: You have to be Arch-Mage to use the Altar, because it's in the room you earn. Enchanting from the altar is BULLSHIT, because anything over like 12 chargers is like 10k gold.

My thoughts on Oblivion:
Good game in THEORY. The scaling system ruins it. No incentive to level, no incentive to do anything except for uber weapons even though you can slaughter every guild quest and the main quest at level 1 if you never rest in a bed. Pathetic.

I don't remember the name, but you have to talk to one of the people in the Bruma guild about it. You'll need to use persuasion or a charm spell, but he'll do it for you if he likes you enough.

About five days ago (real time...not game time) I was running from Kvatch to Skingrad and I found this ruined templed called Miscarand. I decided to explore it. I killed a bunch of zombies and got some Welkynd stones, and after awhile I finally reached the bottom chamber, which had a Varla stone. As soon as I grabbed the Varla stone, all these zombies appeared and the Miscarand King appeared and started casting all kinds of fucked up spells on me. Since I was a very low level, I just decided to run for it and after a minute or two I made it back out to the overworld. A zombie actually came out of the tomb so I killed him. I went back to my horse and went on my way.

So tonight, five days later, I'm doing a quest in Skingrad for the Mages guild and I get sent to the castle jail because I picked a lock and got caught. They release me from the jail, and as soon as the game loads outside the Skingrad castle, I'm confronted by the fucking Miscarand King and about three zombies. Even after days of playing the game, he was still trying to find me and kill me. This game kicks ass.

I just finished the last Thieves Guild quest (holy shit it took me 2 hours real time).
Anybody else done it? I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll put the rest in white text. Read at your discretion, unless you've finished the Thieves Guild quests...

Ok, what the crap is with this? It's like Bethesda just stopped caring about the Thieves Guild after you get the Cowl... Okay, so now I've got a Guildhall. There's a wooden door in it that doesn't work, I don't make any money, and I can't even get the Thieves to do anything.
The cowl is pretty awesome, especially for the 200 Feather, but... So I go to a dungeon, carry ridiculous amounts of loot back to town, but then I can't wear the Cowl in public or I'll be killed by the guards. So I take it off, but now I have to drop my loot because it's too heavy. Leaving expensive items around on the floor is risky business... I guess I just have to sneak back to a safe place without being seen by a single NPC. I'm not sure the final quest was worth two hours of my time :/
[/rant]

Edit: Ah ok. Just been playing for a few minutes to try and figure it out, and it makes more sense now. The door in the guildhall does nothing because it's nailed shut from the outside. Also, if the guards come after you for wearing the cowl, and start attacking you, you can take off the cowl and yield to them (block and speak to them at the same time) and they'll go away. No complaints any more :D

Holy steaming pile of erectile disfunction! This game kicks ass!

My friend got it for his birthday on Wednesday for Xbox 360 (rich bastard) and I didn't know it was out on PC. So right now I'm downlo- I mean, buying it.

I don't want to go through all the pages of this topic. So I will ask some questions:

1. Has anyone found a patch to make the game run smoother yet?
2. What do you think is the best race? When I played it with my friend I picked the reptile dude because he looks sexy and can breathe under water. The lion guy can see in the dark so he is a close second.
3. I love stealing stuff and pickpocketing.
4. This is like question 3. Where is the best place to get picklocks? I need some but I don't want to buy them from the theives guild because I don't have much money.
5. Can you actually mine metals or go fishing? I know there are mines and I know that you can get fishing waders and pickaxes but I never found any way to use them. They could just be useless like the broom.
6. Does the glitch where you kill the Dorian guy and steal his coins to get infinite money work for the PC version or is that just Xbox?
7. Tell me some really cool stuff you can do in the game.
8. What do you do in the Dark Brotherhood (the one you get accepted into after you kill someone)? Do you just murder people?

This is the best game in the world (at least until Grand Theft Auto 4 comes out on PS3).

1. What do you mean by "smoother"?

2. I think your race is mostly inconsequential, as any race can become good for any class. But for starting out, I'd say Bretons for magic-based, Orcs for combat based, Wood Elf for stealth-based.

3. I see.

4. Unfortunately, the easiest way is to buy them from a Thieves Guild fence. They're 6 gold each.

5. Fishing, no. You can't "mine" as such, but in some mines you'll find somehting like a "gold vein" poking out of the rock, from which you can take some gold.

Thanks. And I decided not to download it since I can't find any good places that won't take 34 months to download so I'm buying it on ebay.

Edit: And by smoother I mean not laggy. My computer is alright and I will delete a lot to make room for the game but I still think a game of that size will be slow on my computer. When GTA: Vice City came out on PC I bought it and it was a pain in the ass to play because it would go really slow so I had to pause it and unpause it to make it go a little faster.

I guess my question is; will the game run slow, laggy, or glitchy on a slow computer and is there any downloadable patch to help stop the laggyness or the glitches?

Why not use the DB robes/armor if you're an assassin? I'm a level 17 assassin and only ever use the robes.
Depends on your style of play I guess. I hardly ever confront enemies, but lurk in the shadows and get them with my bow, so I have no use for armor because I very rarely get hit.

Also, I wouldn't like to use any sort of guide. Most of the enjoyment is discovering things by yourself.

The game will run very poorly (if at all) on a slow computer.
And no, as yet there is no such patch.

Depends on the rest of your spec. As for what type, you're better asking on a computer forum, or looking for a thread in Everything/Nothing.

As a rough guide, here's what I'm running:

P4 2.8GHz
1024MB RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB AGP

On medium to low graphics settings on 1024x768, I get a playable framerate most of the time, but it gets VERY choppy if there are more than a couple of NPCs/creatures fighting.

well i dont use DB armor cause chainmail is light and does more protection then DB

But the DB armor with the hood gives you +10 to all the best stealth skills, which should be good for you as an assassin. The Black Hand robes make it +15, but with less protection.

IMO, a good assassin doesn't need armor because the enemy never sees him. So I go with the skill bonuses instead of the armor class :)

You get a free horse at Weynon Priory when you ask Prior Maborel for assistance. Or after he gets assassinated when the amulet of kings is gone, you get to take it. Or even when you start the Black Hand quests, you get shadowmere. You should NEVER have to steal a horse.

Where is the best place to get a house? I'm carrying so much shit around I can't do the arena because I can't carry the uniform. =\

Cheapest one is on the Imperial City Waterfront, afaik.
It's only a tiny shack, and it'll set you back 5,000 Septims.
Ask in the Imperial Trading Office in the Market District.

If you're looking for something bigger (2 floors, lots of space) try Cheydinhal. Costs 15,000 Septims. (Ask the Count/Countess)

Remember that the houses come completely unfurnished apart from a bed. You have to buy furnishings from a local trader. Also, the bigger the house, the more expensive the furnishings will be.

I hope someone releases a mod/plugin to include usable weapon/armor racks. I need somewhere to properly display my collection.

unearth, I know you're running a similar rig to me, so I wonder if you're getting this same graphical crap... When anyone/anything is being affected by a magic item/spell/whatever, and they're meant to have the colored glow, the person/item goes spotty. Click for example (http://img156.imageshack.us/my.php?image=graphicsdisease5pl.jpg). I expect it's my graphics card being unable to handle the shaders or something.

Update on buying a house:

Seek out Velyn Benirus in Anvil (he's usually in the Count's Arms), he's selling off Benirus Manor (huge house) for 5,000 Septims.
But there's a catch.

Once you've bought it, prepare for some heavy combat (make sure you've got a silver/daedric/enchanted weapon) and use the bed in the house.

There's also a cheap house (7,000 Septims) in Leyawiin. It's barely any bigger than the one in the Imperial City, but at least it's made of stone.

Any kind of vampires.

Lord Ignus
04-02-2006, 10:15 PM
There are some non-hostile NPC vampires you can talk to and stuff, in the cities. You can spot them by their pink eyes and pale faces, and they have fangs if you look closely. One of the Dark Brotherhood members (Vincente Valtieri) is a vampire. One of the Counts is a vampire.

You can find hostile vampires in a lot of the caves/mines/Ayleid ruins dotted around the map. If you're going to fight them, make sure you have a few Cure Disease potions handy.

Lord Ignus
04-02-2006, 10:24 PM
If you're a thief, just sneak up behind them. If they don't notice you, your first hit will do 6x damage. I prefer a bow for stealth work - can get a 3x bonus with every shot if you stay undetected.

And you won't need so many potions, you don't have to cure the disease right away... Just don't leave it longer than a day (game time), or you run the risk of developing vampirism.

XxJuggernautxX
04-02-2006, 10:27 PM

Lord Ignus

There is a quest to obtain a cure, but you need five empty Grand Soul Gems, which are very difficult to find.

XxJuggernautxX

Damn thats cool. What are the good things about it and the bad things about it.

Lord Ignus
04-02-2006, 10:46 PM
Good things:
Skill bonuses (between 5 and 15, maybe between 5 and 10, I don't remember) to quite a few skills.
Extra powers (one use per day). A strong Charm power in the early stages of vampirism, and some other potent power (don't remember what it is) in the later stages.
You get pink eyes and fangs :D

Bad things:
You have to feed regularly on sleeping people to keep your vampirism low.*
If your vapirism gets too high, you lose health rapidly if you walk outside during daytime (6am to 6pm).
If you hit 100% vampirism, people won't talk to you, and some will attack you on sight.

Every time you feed, your vampirism goes down to 25% (lowest level) and you can walk in the sun again for a couple of days, and people will talk to you again.

* Your vampirism increases the longer you go without feeding. The lowest level is 25%, which becomes 50%, 75% then 100%.
Your skill bonuses and extra powers will increase with the vampirism, but so will the amount of damage you take from the sun.

Once you try to join the theives guild you will have to do a quest. You need to compete against two other people to steal a diary. Ignus have you found a good way to get gold? I'm pretty broke..I think I have about 2000 septims.

I've got about 17,000 plus 4 houses...

I don't think selling to Thieves Guild fences is ever the most effective way to make money, except for in the very early stages of the game.
- Do a load of quests for your preferred guild[s], they usually pay well, especially in the higher ranks.
- Compete in the arena.
- Explore dungeons (mines, caves, castle ruins, Ayleid ruins). You'll often find bandits/vampires with some decent equipment that you can sell.
- If you're good enough at sneaking/lockpicking there's a chest just outside the arena entrance with 500 Septims in.

If you're looting dungeons for expensive weapons/armor, remember to have some potions (or preferably enchanted items) of feather or strength. There's always more good stuff than you can carry.

Nah, I usually use traders that have 1000 gold.

Also, I don't know if this is a bug or what, but it's been constant since I installed the game.

A trader's gold never goes up or down.
For example, they have 1000 gold, you sell them something worth 800, and they still have 1000. So you buy something worth 2500, and they still only have 1000.

Maybe I'll have a look around in TESCS, see if I can find someone with a lot of gold.

A Thieves Guild fence called "Fathis Ules" has 1500.

Dremora weapons look the same as daedric weapons, and can damage ghosts, so in that repsect you could say that they're daedric.
But true daedric weapons do a lot more damage and are a lot more valuable.

Data taken from TESCS:

Dremora Longsword
Weight: 48.00
Health: 150
Value: 100
Base Damage: 16

Daedric Longsword
Weight: 48.00

I've had this game sitting at my house for the last week or so without installing it, 'cause it won't run on my current system. I only have a pci-compatible motherboard, so I ordered a pci-e one along w/ a Radeon X1600XT card, another 512 mb of ram, and a new 450 watt power supply 'cause the shite one I have now's only 250 watts, and I'm pretty sure that's not gonna hold up. Basically, this game's already cost me over $350.

But anyway, the stuff's supposed to get here today, and while I was waiting for it to arrive, I found a pretty useful tool for creating characters. The single biggest problem I had with Morrowind was having to go back and restart 'cause my characters couldn't handle shit. Partly it was 'cause I was trying to gear them towards stealth when I was really interested in combat, but I'm guessing this'll still be helpful.

Lord Ignus

I don't see any reason you should be having a hard time... What weapon/armor are you using?

The only place to get your weapons/armor enchanted with custom enchantments is the Arcane University.

But you can use Sigil Stones (from closing Oblivion gates) to enchant things too.
Each Sigil Stone comes with 2 enchantments - one for weapons, and one for clothing/armor.
If you choose to use it on a weapon, you'll get an offensive "on strike" type enchanment. On clothing and armor you'll get a "constant effect" type enchantment.

Got a nice Sigil Stone earlier that I used on an amulet for 30% Chameleon, constant effect. I can pretty much punch people in the face without them even noticing.

silverspade - Umbra has the highest base damage of any one-handed weapon in the game. The only weapon with a higher base damage is the Daedric Warhammer.
However, this doesn't make it the best, because the only enchantment it has is Soul Trap. As such, no more enchantments can be added to it. So something like an enchanted Daedric Longsword is potentially better.

All my signal stones just give me turn undead. its starting to piss me off.

I went here: http://www.srtest.com/referrer/srtest to see if my computer was compatible to run the game and it said my CPU speed, RAM, and video card aren't good enough to run the game. I read somewhere that sometimes it doesn't read your hardware right but I still think that I won't be able to play it.

I already bought the game on eBay and it should be here next week. If it doesn't run my plan is to re-sell it on eBay and then wait untill I can find a job and save up for a video card (and maybe a whole new CPU) and buy it again on eBay (the price should have gone down by then) and try to play it again.

But by then the next Elder Scrolls game might be out so I'll have to get new hardware for that. I am really hoping that the game runs (and if it does at all I will have to set the game quality to its lowest setting).

I was doing the DB Guild's quests today and made it to a 'Silencer' and got my sexy Shadowmere PLUS all the cool shit I looted along the way, now my Stats are Fortified through the roof and I look like a pimp. I love this game, LVL 20 and have played +40 hours!

Kinda newbie question but.. After having entered and cleaned out some caves and such, I was wondering if the mobs inside respawn after a while. And what about chests and such?

Ask at the "Count's Arms", it's an Inn in Anvil. They'll tell you that he ran off to the Imperial City after you bought the house.

I'm pretty sure the caves get reinhabited. Ayleid ruins definitely do. Not sure about chests.

Any idea what it's called? Can't find it in TESCS.

About those varla stones.. I think I have one. They're worth 1000 septims, aren't they? Wondering if I should keep or sell :(

Lord Ignus
04-06-2006, 09:37 PM
Keep it, they're very useful, and there are only 58 in the game. In a best case scenario you're only going to get 600 for it anyway. Just store them in your house or something until you need them.

Take all the Welkynd stones and sell those instead. Only 50 (base value) each, but you can usually find 20 or so in a ruin.

You might just have a Bounty on your head for Lockpicking/Stealing from another time or somebody saw you kill Rufio.

LMAO, just finished the Quest with those sluts down at Anvil who rob married men...I wanted Buttshecks, but the Bitch tried to rob me so...Necrophillia.

Thats the best part of this game, the quests are so well written and fun.
I slaughtered those bitches.

Yeah, Bone, you need to hit tab, adn go under your characters info and look at the stats section, it will tell you what the bounty is. Hide your stolen stuff and pay it or go to jail.

It's just common sense really... If you've been seen committing a crime the guards aren't gonna stop until you're caught.
Your choices are: a) Avoid the guards. b) Pay the fine or go to jail. c) Pay half the fine to the Thieves' Guild.

Watch out, the fine for that is 500g.

I found a bunch of loot they took from different people, but none of the people want their stuff back.

I've not really been in there, but I've looked in TESCS and here's what I've got:
Ri'Zakar has the key to the basement, you might have to pickpocket him for it, or maybe you can get him to give it to you.

As for the training hall, look for yourself (http://img466.imageshack.us/my.php?image=nokey8aj.jpg). Seems it can only be opened as part of a quest or something.

I think I ended up jumping one level down while in the main tower and it got me inside the halls of that tower. took half my life on the fall so make sure you kill whatever is down there first.

I also might be thinking of a different gate. the one i am talking about was one that had 5 smaller towers and they all linked to the main tower, but it only led to the other smaller towers.

Doubt it's the one I'm stuck in, this one has about 3 tiny towers littered on the outskirts which have sod all in them. One had a cage at the top with someone from the Mythic Dawn resting in there, I couldn't talk to him so I thought I'd free him and beat his arse...Only to find out the bottom of the cage fell open and he dropped about 400 feet, onto the elevating floor...Which had a 7 foot spike in the middle which he landed flat on, I laughed so hard!

Some of those gates are hard, One cave one I was in led to about 6 caves then you got to the tower. Bring some potions of invisibiity if you want to explore without constant fighting.

Buy the gems at every towns alchemist shop. Easy. Then the ingredients are a bit hard, took few a few hours to find all the nightshade. If you have trouble finding them ask for help here, I'm sure someone will tell you where to go.

Also, I've done mages now, arena I'm grand champion and I doubt ill be able to do thief's guild quests... No security skills.

Anyway, I'm still not anywhere near to ending my career of oblivion after i finish it all. There are hundreds of different combinations i have to try character wise!

I am horrible at these games. I have no patience. I saw that the house in Lejawin was 20,000 septims and you had to be famous, sooo.....

after quite alot of hexing, I was invulnerable to all arena guys, and shocked the shit out of the grey prince.

The thief's guild quests are not so hard, long as you have unlock very hard door spell, invisible spell, and you can live with getting caught and paying a fine.

Lord Ignus

You don't need it. You can unlock any pickable lock with a very low Security score if you're good at the "mini-game".
But yeah, invest in some Invisibility potions (or a spell) and you're good to go.

Something interesting I've discovered, for those of you who've completed the Thieves Guild quests:

(highlight white text)
Any crimes (or good deeds) you commit whilst wearing the Cowl of Nocturnal do not affect your standard bounty, or your Fame/Infamy ratings. If you put on the Cowl, kill 5 guards, then take it off and speak to a sixth, you won't be in any trouble. Adversely, shutting an Oblivion gate (i.e. taking a Sigil Stone) whilst wearing the Cowl will not affect your standard Fame rating (but it will increase the fame rating of your Gray Fox persona). Same goes for any actions that affect fame/infamy.

None of your skills/attributes have any bearing on your enchantments, as far as I know.
