help with steam

hey guys i need some help with steam. everytime i open half-life 2, this steam updater thing opens. it has like three loading screens, then almost at the end, it says "steam is temporarily unavailable. please try again later." ive again, even like 2 weeks later, but the same message pops up. i looked at the help section on the steam website, but i couldn't find an explaination. oh i also checked to see if my firewall was blocking steam, but it said it allowed all steam processes or w/e. anyone know what to do?

Try turning off your firewall completely, just to see if that works. If it does, then we found the problem.

Uninstall, reinstall. It's a pain in the ass but it should get rid of the problem.

Same thing happened to me, i know this sounds really stupid but if you havent done it try it. You know how steam is on at all times, just not open? Shut steam down completely and start it back up.

Just buy hl2 for xbox. im serious its alot better. also my com does not have a good enoughe graphics card. i mainly use steam for cs and dod source.
