Hey guys I need a favor.

My band has no real recording devices besides my camera or my mp3 player, so I was wondering three things;

A) Which one would be better to use to record audio
B) How should I get the audio on the computer (What firewire port should I use if i'm gonna use the camera, I dont have a drive for that so i'd have to buy one and install it)
C) MAIN QUESTIONWhat program can I use (nothing illegal) to record the songs, and where do I buy/ DL it. Preferably free and easy to use. I really need something that can record seperate layers like I record the guitars first and then the drums and then match them up, if this is even possible.

Just any help on programs or recording tips or how to do it in general is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

It's not free, but Adobe Audition is the perfect program you need. You can download a 30 day trial off of Adobe's website.

another program that is nice just like adobe audition is called Sony Acid Pro. I use that to record stuff sometimes and it works great. i think its cheaper too

Yes, Audition or Acid will do the job very well... of course they're both fairly expensive. So, if you were serious about wanting freeware (or something close) and don't want to go down the warez route you'll have to look elsewhere after those trials expire.

You also may want to invest in a decent mic and then perhaps a nice soundcard too if you're serious about getting good quality recordings. But that's another story...
