I just wanted to express my love for Tool. Their music is awesome and puts me in another world when I listen to them. Also, I hear May, 6 2006, Tools new cd is going to be released, i am extremely excited and cant wait to hear it. What are some other opinions on Tool?

Check the sig.

Tool is my favorite band as of now. Yeah I'm pumped for the new album, but the only thing I'm bummed out about is the title. 10,000 Days? Doesn't seem to fit with the momentum with the others. But all I care for is the music. Did you hear the single will be Vicarious? Can't wait, it's too fucking far away!

It hasn't been leaked yet. It supposed to hit radio airwaves around late April. Here's the Billboard article.
Billboard (http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1002237083)

And here's another cool site. It shows a bunch of secrets about them and hidden stuff in their songs.

do you by chance know anything behind the songs Parabol/Parabola, those are my favorite songs by tool and just wonderin if you know anything about them..

Ænema
03-31-2006, 01:02 AM
Here's what I make of it.

Parabol is a spelling variation of "parable" which mean's it's almost a "parabola." A parabola is a geometric curve which defines the title. Another analyzation is that it's the unity of two bodies together.

Other than that, another thought is that it sounds like "pair of balls."

I'm sorry, but on Eulogy that subliminal message that says
"I'm too smart when you're invisible by the bone and the symbol on you / so he bashes his skull through the window overlooking the sea / twilight amber ego / we were amused by this" fucking creeps me out. Wtf is that shit supposed to mean?

Ænema
03-31-2006, 01:25 AM
Yeah I noticed that too. It's not really a subliminal message though if it's in the song. But I know what you mean by the way he says it though. I really don't understand that part of the song either. I think it might be a storyline because the song is called "Eulogy" therefore related with death.

judge weiner
03-31-2006, 01:14 PM
I have heard that "Eulogy" was written about L. Ron Hubbard, although at face value I jumped right to the conclusion it was about Jesus Christ the first time I heard it. The weird lines very well could be just that - weird shit put in there which wasn't meant to apply specifically to anything.

toolnavy.com has forums where people discuss the meanings of tracks. It's really interesting sometimes but it mostly consists of 16 yr olds trying to act badass on the internet at eachother.

The title is supposed to be two conjoined words. Anima (some Jungian term) and Enema (a tube that goes up your ass). As far as I know, the æ is just a representaion of an HTML. If you understand the meaning of the actual song, you would understand it a lot more clearer.

Anima is spirit and enema is the term they use when you get your colon cleaned, but it's root meaning is "cleansing" so when they say Aenima, it's probably spiritual cleansing.

Hmm...somebody has some issues? Were talking about a great band, and to go as far and say that the FANS ruin the band is a brave statement. The fans MAKE any successfull. band. Thats WHY bands are successfull. Tool my favorite band, and you may agree or disagree, but to come in here and make people feel belittled because they want to know about a band is lame.

According to pretty much every definition I've heard of prog rock, they definately are a prog band. I don't see why they wouldn't be a prog band. Have you ever heard De-loused in the Comatorium? I'm guessing all you've heard is The Widow on the radio. If you've heard enough Volta, and you know what prog is, there's no way anybody could say they're not prog.

Let me just put it this way. It is a fact, that if TMV are not prog, then neither are any of your favorite prog bands. There's no such thing as prog. Rolling Stones played fusion jazz. Zeppelin played christian rock. It's just fucking absurd.

reggie jax

They have an obvious prog element to them but I'm not bothered if people don't want to label them prog.. prog rock has this unattractive arrogance attached to it anyway.

I admit I haven't read the entire thread, but I just wanted to add that this song adds a whole new dimension once you read the lyrics...I don't know if they are posted online yet, but this is what I have gotten from them..I know these aren't correct but this is what it sounds like to me..and I love what he's saying:

Eye on the TV, cause tragedy fills me

Whatever flavor, it happens to be like

'Killed by the husband', 'trapped by the ocean'

'shot by his own son', 'she used the poison'

(unintelligible), kiss it goodbye

that's my kind of story...

IT'S NO FUN UNTIL SOMEONE DIES.

Don't look at me like I am a monster,

found out your one face, but with the other

stare like a junkie into the TV

stare like a zombie while the mother

holds her child, watches him die

looks to the sky crying 'why oh why?'

cause I need to watch things die...from a distance

vicariously I live while the whole world dies

you all needed to join in live

why can't we just admit it?

we won't give pause until the blood is flowing

into the grave you were born

(something) the story is told

we won't give pause until the blood is flowing

and I need to watch things die

from a glimpsing distance

vicariously I live while the whole world dies

you all feel the same, so why can't we just admit it?

(next couple of lines are very hard to decipher)

sink to the death rattle

(something) your desire to believe in

angels in the hearts of men

pull your head on out your (?) and give a listen

so they don't have to say it all again

the universe is hostile, so impersonal

devour to survive, so it is...so it has always been...

we all feed...on tragedy...

it's like blood to a vampire....

vicariously I...live while the whole world dies

much better you than I.

I think the reason they seem so overrated is because the people who are huge Tool fans are so balls out for everything they do that you would think they shit gold or something. I agree with you sparrky, I get annoyed with people telling me I don't 'get' Tool when I say I'm not a huge fan, although I have been listening to them since I was 15 and I'm 27. I loved Undertow and Aenima, but I didn't like Lateralus very much, and some of Maynard's lyrics turned me off so I stopped caring. However I must say that this new song has gotten me fired up for their new album. I have jammed this song upwards of 15 times because it takes me back to their older sound. At this point I could care less whether or not they are 'overrated', because I like what I am hearing and that's all that matters to me.

Sorry to kick up an old thread but I thought I'd share some TOOL stuff with you. Some of you may know this already but I found out that the title (10,000 Days) does refer to Maynard's mother. She had a stroke years ago that left her in a wheelchair and died within the last few years. The amount of time between the stroke and her death was a little over 27 years, or approx. 10,000 days which explains the lyric "10,000 days in the fire is long enough, you're going home". Her name was Judith Marie Garrison (which explains the Wings for Marie song name). Also, there was a song called "Judith" on A Perfect Circle's Mer De Noms where the lyrics seem to show quite a bit of anger about her plight.

If you take the lyics at face value (which I know many don't) it would appear that Maynard strikes a bit of a religious chord in that part of 10,000 Days:

High as a wave, but I'll rise on up off the ground.
You were the light and the way, they'll only read about.
I only pray, Heaven knows when to lift you out.
Ten thousand days in the fire is long enough, you're going home.

You're the only one who can hold your head up high,
Shake your fists at the gates saying:
"I have come home now!
Fetch me the spirit, the son, and the father.
Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended.
It's time now!
My time now!
Give me my, give me my wings!"

Not saying he's born again christian or something, but it certainly is a far cry from something like Opiate.

I should mention that I didn't dig this crap up myself, I found on other various discussion boards and wikipedia.

All this talk about puzzles got me interested. Found this on the internet, i'm doing it right now.. it sounds awesome.

here's a puzzle & it might resolve peoples annoyance with Viginti Tres. This is truely beautiful;

three tracks from their new album are meant to be played simultaneously.

first, play list these two in this order on win amp or whatever:

Tool - Viginti Tres
Tool - Wings For Marie (Pt 1)

and play this one at exactly the same time, with a different media player or your cd player:
Tool - 10, 000 Days (wings Pt 2)

it will only work properly if done exactly, the singing synchs completely at the end so you can tell if you did it correct.

Honsetly I think it was better than Lateralus. Very surprised. It definitely fit my standards.

Here are some more Tool secrets for 10,000 Days.
The artwork for 10,000 Days consists of stereoscopic images. These images are created by using 2 photos that are slighty altered from each other to form one complete picture. Wings For Marie is created by using 2 audio tracks (Wings pt 1 & pt. 2) to form one complete song.
The stereoscopic images of the 4 band members all have the number 11 represented in the same section of their pictures on the right side:
Danny - Flower stems represent 11
Justin - Arm holding the bird is pointing towards the 11 visible candles on the table. It is important to note that there are actually 12 candles, 11 visible and 1 hidden.
Maynard - The hands on the clock is pointed at 11
Adam - 11 glass jars on the desk (his right hand points in their direction)
---------------------------------------
The album cover art is 3 faces that form 1 face. Wings For Marie is 3 separate tracks that form 1 complete track.
Cryptic hints such as song titles like Lost Keys, Right In Two and the lyric in the song Rosetta Stoned: "A message of hope for those who choose to listen
---------------------------------------
There's two points in the song 'Intension' when played backwards says "Work hard. Stay in school. Listen to your mother. Your father is right."
---------------------------------------
