How would they know the guy died? He can't really tell them because he's kind of dead. But then again his parents could have or someone who knew him (if anyone actually knew him).

LOL. Wow... just, wow.
Online gamers having funerals... I'm amazed really.
The funniest part might be that... these people, each individually, have probably spent literally over 200 man-hours playing that game. And it's even funnier that they think there game is so cool that they make videos of it. I mean yea, I guess we watched it... But he didnt just show it, he edited an entire video for it. In the end, the funniest part is that about 30 people were probably going "FUCK YESSSS! We totally e-punked them!"
And to all future parents... keep your kids as far away from these types of games as possible. MMORPGers, and RPG-types in general are seriously fucked up people. Think LARP, those are not normal people, and neither are WoW'ers. These people get seriously into there games. I had a friend who used to always be about hanging out, partying and that kinda thing... and then he started playing WoW and got REALLY into it. His girlfriend for 2 years dumped him because he'd rather sit around and play that game than have sex w/ her. These people are sad, and as I said, future parents.. keep your kids far far away from anything RPG related.

That looks fun as hell. I don't have time for video games anymore but when I was a kid those online games where you have wars with groups of people were fun as hell.
This video is wrong and those guys are complete pieces of shit, but shit that video put together and all was just hilarious and I could feel the excitement of that shit, that was funny as hell.
Anyways, who are all these idiots passing judgement on people playing a video game? Everyone plays video games and spends countless hours just sitting in front of a television watching shit. How is this different then spending 20 hours a week just staring at Survivor, or Lost, or whatever goofy ass shows people watch? At least theres interacting with people on those MMORPG's. I admit you gotta put a lot of time into that shit to be good, but it's fun and the time can fly. Instead of watchin 10-15 hours of TV a week, you play a video game, so what? To each his own. I don't have the time for that shit anymore but if I wasn't engaged and need to support myself I'd be all over one of those things, that brought back memories of UO when I was 16.
I'm thinkin when I hit retirement like 60 or something, I'll get into one of those again. But by then I'll be so disillusioned from kids that I won't want to have anything to do with'm. I already hate the youth.

That's pretty messed up.
I knew there were some stupid ass people playing WoW.. but damn.. that's just pretty heartless.
I used to play EQ2 and the guild I was in.. the leader of it died. Her husband (who also played the game) came on and told us all the bad news. Very sad :(
Anyways... there isn't anything wrong with playing a video game. It's just another form of entertainment. And people paying respect to someone they knew in the game isn't lame, isn't dorky... isn't anything bad. It's a way for people to show their respect for someone they played the game with.

I mean look. It is a game. Mixing real life trajedy in a game still makes the game a game. People who killed her character, although showed little compassion, still are playing a game. I play too, have hundreds of hours of playing time. It's fun, but don't mix real life with it, that's where it begins to get pathetic.

Hilarious movie. Love the transitions from the funeral to the oncoming raid heading for the funeral. Good music. "I aint no god dam summa b*tch". Face the facts. It was a PVP server who are they to think they are above anyone by having the funeral and thinking no one could or would attack them? Hmm security?? Good idea. You would think, why let any alliance in the area knowing what kind of people play MMO's . Why hold the funeral in contested territory like winterspring? Why not in any other horde territory, ogrimmar? That way if any alliance does come the only thing they can do is pay their respects then the horde can gank em afterwards, which would most likely happen. You cant have too much pity for these guys they didn't exactly think this thing through if you really look at it. And what makes you think those who organized the funeral wouldn't do the same thing serenity did? How ever long that service was they could have been doing something else. Like IDK calling the guys parents and paying their respects. But I cant blame them for doing what they did he/she must have been popular within the guild but anyway. NO needs to be fixed. There are kids out there who need mentors, senior citizens who need people to keep them company. They could have spent their time more wisely.
Great video, though its messed up what they did, who didn't laugh when they saw this?
Lets examine what happened here with a good idea bad idea theory.
1) Holding a funeral to remember a friend-Good idea.
2) Allowing opposing faction players into the funeral you dont know.-bad idea
3) Holding a funeral in winterspring=beautiful place.-good idea.
4) Holding a funeral in winterspring which is also contested territory on a PVP(player vs player) server. -bad idea.
*For all you newbs out there (dont worry im a newb too :P)PVP servers + contested territories= theres no rules when your in these territories if you see an opposing faction player running around, you can either let him be or attack him its up to you. Which basically means they were taking a risk being out there even though they had the numbers im pretty sure they didn't have their fingers on the triggers if you catch my drift.*
5) Holding the funeral in horde territory.- Good idea
*Alliance can come into horde territory all they want but they cant attack them unless they attack them first. And some of the horde territories are really beautiful.*
6) Not holding a funeral for a friend in horde territory-bad idea
*Serenity exercised their rights established by blizzard long before Any of them had characters and they have the nerve to get mad cause they exercised their rights? BS thats like telling the media not to report a story.*

You have to be "nerdy" enough to attend the funeral, and even more to raid it. But I laughed anyways. I don't think they meant any disrespect to the person who died, just to get a laugh out of the people taking it so seriously.
Games like WoW jus don't appeal to me personally. When I was 13, I used to play D2 alot, ALOT. But now, at age 17, I have my mind set on other things. (See: Girls, friends, my future and such:P)

I'd like to say, it is sort of different from watching TV. RPG people, by nature, are weirded out. Haven't you heard the stories over suicides and murders over MMORPGs? People quit/lose there jobs, lose their lovers and families over this. I don't think there has ever EVER been a divorce where Lost was a major factor.
I used to play EQ, but I quit after spending over 80 dollars JUST TO PLAY MONTHLY. And I can tell you a lot of these MMORPGers don't play for fun. They say they do, but most of them have the attitude "Oh well I've already spent 160 hours playing this character, I don't wanna quit cause then all that time is for nothing." And once again, people don't play to interact, atleast most of them. I'll admit some people truly do play for fun but a lot don't. They spend countless hours killing the same thing over and over just in the same of 'gold farming' and whatnot.
A lot of people play games. I do. But is what seperates me from an MMORPGer is a good majority of those people play at a very unhealthy level. I'd say from my EQ experience, atleast 75% of the people played at unhealthy levels. And of that 75%, I'd say 50% of them played at rediculously insane levels.
The whole idea behind the marketing of an MMORPG is brilliant. A game that can potentially draw someone into to play hundreds and hundreds of hours in the game over many months time. You have to pay every month. They patch it and do expansion packs. The games can be extremely addicting (remember, some have chosen hours of the game over jobs, families, and sex). The whole idea from the companies selling them is to GET YOU HOOKED AND KEEP YOU PLAYING AND PLAYING AND PLAYING!! It's not like a Final Fantasy RPG where you play it for a while, finally beat and can go "Wow, that was fun but I finally beat it! WOOT!" There is no end game in a MMORPG.
They even have support groups for people who play to much MMORPG.
and yes im nerdy as hell for playing EQ

That was terrible.
Thank god i gave up Maple Story, Runescape and all those other MMORPG's years ago.
I can almost guarantee... that he died from a health problem, related to some sort of obesity, or just a bad health from the constant hours of playing that game.
When i used to play those games i was a fat ass, i got tired really quick, and i would sit like a fucking stone playing.
Then... i got caught up in DDR/ITG/PIU, changed my eating, and became a health freak.
Honestly, that's low... even for MMORPG players. Even though it would've been alot better if they actually went to his REAL LIFE funeral, it's still sweet they did it online. Because they could have been leveling and getting tons of exp instead, and to sacrifice a few hours for a funeral, that's deep as hell for a WoW player.
I sense a murder... sometime in the near future, related to WoW.

My opinion: The people who play these games want them to be so life like. They think of it as real war/life/battles. So I don't see anything wrong with what happened. You can't call a time out in real life to have a funeral. Funerals are attacked in real life all across the world. It is just an easy target of opportunity.
JakeHarris74
04-06-2006, 02:25 PM

You never heard women say "I can't communicate with him anymore, he just zones out in front of that damn box ALL DAY LONG. I'm sick of it" or something along those lines? I've heard it plenty
Crazy people kill over anything, even a ham sandwich. I hear about killings and violence caused by everything out there. I wouldn't expect video games to be any less aggrevating to the aggressive by nature.
I used to play EQ, but I quit after spending over 80 dollars JUST TO PLAY MONTHLY. And I can tell you a lot of these MMORPGers don't play for fun. Yeah a lot of RPG's online are just repetition and they just sit there clicking the same few buttons with a blank expression. Just zombie'd out.. again, I see people watching countless hours of television doing the same thing, except their fingers aren't moving.
A lot of people play games. I do. But is what seperates me from an MMORPGer is a good majority of those people play at a very unhealthy level. I'd say from my EQ experience, atleast 75% of the people played at unhealthy levels. And of that 75%, I'd say 50% of them played at rediculously insane levels.[/COLOR]
I think the people that play at an unhealthy level seem to be many because you see them all the time. There are subscribers that don't play that much but unless you have the numbers of who all subscribes than you don't know how much are playing at what times and how many are actually subscribed monthly. There could be 32,000 subscriptions playing on a specific server but only 2,000 playing at a given time, while a portion of that 2,000 is the same people all the time.
Yeah it's a big money maker, and people love to interact with other people, gaming probably seems less 'lonely' that way. I'm betting a reason it seems MMORPG's are the root cause for these problems because a lot of people with little social life that just plays video games gets lonely and it makes them feel better to know they are actually in a way communicating with the outside world as sad as that is. MMORPG's draw some sad cases to them, I don't think necessarily they create them as much. This draws the illussion that MMORPG's are dangerous..
But again, even if an MMORPG created an addicted drone that ignores friends and loved ones.. that can be said for a lot of things. Addictions are only addictions when weak people lack the discipline to deny it, or at least balance it out with the rest of their life.
People get addicted to everything and anything.

Wow, they got served on WoW.
Coincedence?
as far as the question about how there was a view at the funeral and with the rival clan, it was obviously set up by the rival clan, the rival clan snuck one of its guys into the funeral like he was one of this girls friends, then someone else who was recording was with the rival clan. duh
does anyone have a link to eiterh of these clan's websites, i wanna go there and see what they have on their forums, probably a war

He probably forgot to eat/drink/go potty while playing endless hours of WoW.
Or he killed himself because someone stole something from him, like that one guy did over Everquest.

That's fucked up. Who the fuck takes a game seriously enough to fuck with someone that died. I mean, the clan with the member that died is just showing some kind of respect. Then those other guys come in and kill everyone. That's bs. People have no respect for eachother anymore.
There are no smilies to show my feelings. It's kind of a sad and angry one.

Wait... people get fuckin' MARRIED online?!?!!?
Haha, oh yeah, they do.
I used to play a game called Ragnarok, it was on an unnoficial server, called Twilight, and it was all free. So the head GM, the head admin of the server basically, was the minister. You could be portalled to the wedding. Well this one time, me and my friend went on there, and went to a wedding. He was a high priest or whatever, and I was crusader, and in the middle of the wedding he called forth like 15 level 96 monsters, and they RAPED EVERYONE THERE. Including myself. I laughed my ass off the whole time. Bride, groom, minister, all dead. So funny. Ah man, fast times, fast times.
Anyways; if you wanted to get divorced you had to pay like 200k. Yeah, thats pretty much it.

It's amazing that millions of people play these online RPG's all day long. They play the games because they are an escape from reality. The sad thing is, while they build up their characters in the game, their real life decays all around them. If I ever met someone who got dumped by a significant other over an online RPG, I would smack the shit out of them.

That is the huge downfall, you can't turn your computer on and then BAM be in the action. It takes days and sometimes months to grow your character big enough to compete with the PVP level of the game. Also it can take an hour or more just to get to the fun parts of the game after you start it up. All the traveling, or getting people together to do something. When you play a game like that and then a couple years later when you are done, you can look back and realize all the time lost(even though at the moment, it was entertaining, like drugs or tv). Wonder if you used some of that time to something else? You could be speaking three different languages today, have an associates degree in some useful skill or trade, have a killer physique,.and who knows what else.
Thats why I decided those games are not compliable with life. They can be fun when you are a kid, but as your characters skills grow, your skills (which are infinitely more important) decline.

Ok, for those of you who didn't get it, I read an article somewhere about this video, I can't find it now, so correct me if I make any mistakes...
It was actually a girl that died, of cancer I think... She had been in this horde guild, that had a nasty rivalry with an alliance guild.
Her guild thought it would be a cool idea to hold a little ceremony in-game so that all of the players could remember her... They held it in the pvp zone because apparently it was the girl's favorite zone, and invited everyone to come. Her friends logged her character in by the lake and had people line up and pay her homage one by one...
The rival guild has other plans, and massacres the fuck out of all of them (most hilarious, I thought, was that the attack started by the stealth-kill of the girl's character).
I thought it was fucking awesome. I also think that it would be really creepy to see the avatar of a girl who died logged in to the game, just standing there looking at you as you stand in line... Ish...

And thus, when I first saw the video I nearly fell out of my chair laughing.
e-Death is easily faked and an e-funeral means you are far too wrapped up in the internet. I'd flame any attempted e-funeral for an ebaumer any day.

Actually I believe they knew it was going on and therefore planned the attack accordingly. I would have done no less. Real life death or not, a video game funeral is pathetic.
I play WoW, but when people flirt with other people in the game, get married, roleplay it gets really gay. Like sometimes you'll walk through a secluded(sp?) area in the game and youll see like a female and male char sitting naked in the forest cyber-fucking. Its really fucking gay. The people who make all these "funny" WoW music videos are fucking gay and are not funny.
Usually most of the gay stuff in the game are on the Roleplaying servers, where people see a cave and talk in 3rd person saying "Billy sees the mystical cave and urges those around him to explore". I play on a PvP server where a really SMALL amount of that shit happens.
As other people have said above, the best part of WoW is pissing people off. You see another person from the opposite faction in a PvP contested area and you just kill these over and over. Wiping peoples raid parties as they fight a big dragon etc.
I used to do alot of that stuff, but the game got really boring for me so I only log on now to raid with my guild for about 8 hours a week.

That has got to be the single most sad and gay thing I think I have ever heard in my life...I am 100% serious. I truly dont think there is anything sadder than two nerds "cybering" online in a role-playing game with modded, animated nude characters in the game. Wow, I didnt think it was possible to have that crappy a real life.....

Not that it should have happened anyways, funerals inside video games like that are just... creepy. They have weddings too.

All the talk of very little social life is so true. You can tell when your in Teamspeak or Ventrilo what kind of person someone is. I used to play UO all day, all the time, and you would see about 20 other people in the same guild ALWAYS on. I got banned and now I might play Guild Wars a couple hours a week, people who play MMORPG's just need to take a break, it's not that they don't have friends they are just ignoring them.
