Why are we delaying the war in Iraq. I heard this on the news yesterday and was completely confused. I thought the whole ideal was to rush in and take Baghdad. Cut them off at their head. But maybe this was a pre planned part of the war plan, and the reason a lot of Bush officials keep telling us this is going to be longer than anyone expected.

Is this the end of the shock-and-awe campaign and the start of the bomb-and-wait campaign?

Might be a better stradegy in my opinion.

It's not a war... it's a conflict. ;)

I don't think they anticipated the willingness of the Iraqi people to defend their country. Now they have a 300 mile corridor into the country they need to reinforce.

They thought they could just bomb the fuck out of them, and the Iraqi's would just roll-over. They found out differently.

maybe its not their willingness to protect their country, maybe its their fear of being shot if they dont fight, or having their families shot.

I think alot of Iraqis are fighting for the sake of Iraq, but I also believe that alot of Iraqis are fighting because they are being forced to by Saddam's hinchmen.

I think when this war is over, the Iraqi people will be happier, and far better off than they were before. Maybe when they are finally allowed to voice their true opinions, we, and the rest of the world will know how truly necessary this war was.

I don't know. There are stories in both the American and Arab press about Iraqi's leaving Saudi, heading for Bagdad to fight for Iraq. About 5,000 so far, and more on the way.

Doesn't sound like they're being threatened to me.

They miscalculated a few things I think. The arabs are lucky we don't want a high civillian casualty list. Or else the war would be over by now.

It will take us a while to take down a city where they hide tanks in hostpitals and put up radar stations in elementary schools. Those brave Iraqies, hiding behind women and children. Fight on warriors of god

Its not being delayed, its being well prepared for. And the sand storms have slowed us a little.

You would be willing to defend your country if your family would be killed by loyalists if you did not help. STFU with this "the unexpected willingness of the iraqi people to defend their country" because it is utter bullshit.

Herr Goebbels, you may want to sit down and talk to your Generals. You need to get your storys straight on the Iraqi's willingness...

Actually, this kind of warfare is called a 'limited war', and not a conflict. That's the proper term, anyway.

No, you need to. Have you personally talked with someone living IN Iraq? I have, 4 days ago. Dont argue with me on this.

Have any of you seen pictures of Umm Qasr now that we have it mainly under control?

The Iraqi's their look happy, happier than they were before I'm sure. They are the first to get humanitarian aid, and they won't be the last.

Its just a matter of Saddam's men letting American forces give the aid out. If it wasnt for a few hundred of Saddam's men in Basra, the Iraqis there would have food, water, and medicine right now. Saddams is hurting his own people. Why would they want to fight for him? or a country ruled by him? the best thing they can do for their country right now is to help the coalition forces rat out Saddam, and his gooneys.
