I've always fancied the idea of learning how to growl properly - how do death metal growls. I woke up this morning and decided I might try and learn how.
Is there anyone here who has mastered the art of death metal growling - or is in the process of it? From what I understand, you are meant to use your stomach for growls, and definitely not the back of your throat. Most people seem to recommend growling along to the vocalist which suits you most (not necessarily your favourite one). For me that is probably Max Cavalera (Sepultura).
So has anyone got any tips for growling, any advice? Any comments? Who are your favourite growlers?
My favourite growlers:
Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth)
Lord Worm (Cryptopsy)
Jeff Walker (Carcass)
Angela Gossow (Arch Enemy)
Karl Sanders (Nile)
??? (Demilich) - sorry, don't know his name, but he's good
Lee Dorrian (Cathedral, Napalm Death)
Muhammed Suicmez (Necrophagist)
Aaron Stainthorpe (My Dying Bride)
I've probably forgotten some.
EDIT: Forgot John Tardy (Obituary), Peter Tatgren (Bloodbath), Johan Hegg (Amon Amarth) and Petri Lindroos (Norther, Ensiferum)
