Anyone listen to it yet other than Dani California?

I've preordered it a while ago with the new tool cd on amazon (still had gift certificate from christmas)

*Downloading Stadium Arcadium right now off mininova because I can't wait any longer!*
Besides I've already purchased it, so why the hell not?

EDIT: Just downloaded listening to the other songs now. Fucken Sweet!

I've downloaded but I've decided to hold off listening to any more of it until the real release date. What I've heard of it sounds very good. RHCP is my favourite band ever.

I believe you're justified in downloading it since you've already bought it.

How could By The Way be better? That shit sucked.

But that opinion is biased since I haven't even downloaded the new album. And I do have By The Way, and it wasn't very good.

How many songs are on the CD I just want to make sure, before I procure it.

14 on the first CD and 14 on the second one - for a total of 28 (o rly ). I think most of the torrents going around are 168 MB for the whole album.

I only ever liked their stuff with Navarro. I don't know why people think John Frusciante is so great. He's never really done anything spectacular. Not saying I could do it, because I don't play guitar, but I just thought that Navarro was the better guitarist.

I love BSSM - it's my favourite RHCP album, but Mother's Milk is close behind for me. I love the raw funk, and it seems like you do as well. So do you like other funk rock, like Fishbone?

Frusciante's probably my favourite guitarist ever. I find his songwriting to be great, but I find that there's something that sets him apart for me. I suppose it's on more of an emotional level of playing, but it's not straight emotion either. It's hard for me to pick. He does have a strange mix of influences including Hillel Slovak (original RHCP guitarist), Lou Reed, Jimi Hendrix, electronica in general, Eddie Hazel (Funkadelic), Frank Zappa, Curt Kirkwood (Meat Puppets) and Steve Vai.

But I do like Dave Navarro, his psychedelic style of guitar, One Hot Minute and Jane's Addiction. Navarro is a pretty good guitarist, regardless of whatever shit he does on TV. One Hot Minute is a very very very good album.

Well i just bought this album and i must say its amazing, best 11.99 ive ever spent. The album is like a huge compilation of the Chili Peppers' different styles over the years, and theres definetly some funk element in some songs.

I agree with you on 'If', it doesnt really measure up to the other songs, but i love Hump de Bump, its really funky, but to each his own.

Also 'Hey' is probably my most favourite melodic song, its so good for chilling, and i also love 'Storm in a Teacup', that shit sounds like a lost track off of Mother's Milk or something, its great :ahhh:

Hey, I respect RHCP but they haven't released anything good since 1991. I downloaded a few tracks off Stadium Arcadium (namely Snow, Slow Cheetah and Hey) and they sound as middle of the road as anything else played on commercial radio. What happened to the groundbreaking funk rock band RHCP used to be? It sounds as if they've run completely dry of ideas and I wouldn't want to take 2 hours out of my day listening to the rest of this self-indulgent garbage.

And to say I have 'no taste in music' (everyone has taste whether good or bad, idiot) is pretty fucking cheeky coming from someone who only listens to rock music.

I'll say it before it happens. This album will make many people say that RHCP sold out and they're pop and they suck etc. The Green Day effect, if you will. I've already seen signs of it. I mean the amount of radio play that Dani California gets is ridiculous.

RHCP didnt sell out though... if anything they went back to their roots by using funk as a major element on Stadium Arcadium. Green Day actually did sell out.... everyone all of a sudden loved them because they could agree with them on hating Bush.

RHCP is lightyears ahead better than Green Day anyway.

RHCP is better than green day on pretty much every level. Talentwise its not even a question, RHCP has three people who are better singers than green day's lead singer, Jhon Frusciante could play more interesting and moving riffs with two fingers than Bill Joe can with his entire body, Chad Smith can actually hold a beat, unlike green days drummer, and even though green day's bass player aint bad Flea is 1000x better. Green day's lyrics are pretty bland and boring (its just a bunch of anti-bush bullshit that caters to 14 year olds), RHCP has some pretty clever lyrics, and, most importantly, not every RHCP song can be layered over any other RHCP song and sound the same.

well, the ground breaking funk rock band is what they were, they have broken that ground, so to speak, and now incorperate that funky freedom shit into thier newer melower music. If you listen to it you can still hear loads of funk in 'by the way'.

Whether or not they have run out of ideas FOR FUNK is debatable. But the fact that the new album contains 28 songs and (I heard) they spent ages trying to cut the new album down to just 28 songs as they had so many more that they wanted to release. Its fairly self evident that they still have an idea or two every now and then.

You're right, you can call them shit and not like them and still have a "taste in music". But you just have to learn, thats how MountHappy gets his kicks. :p

could you just explain what you mean by them being self indulgent a little bit, im not sure i understand what you mean.

Well of course it's too soon to tell. Look I'm not comparing Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Green Day, especially on talent. I'm just saying that Green Day made a good album, got a ton of airplay, and are now supposed to suck becuase of it.

People don't love Green Day now because of their political views. Well some do, but look at all those little girls who think Billy's hot and the newest single is the best song ever. That's created by shit like MTV. And so far, MTV is loving Dani California.

I just stole Stadium Arcadium from a friend. He's gonna be pissssed. But yeah, it's a good album so far.

I just bought it today, great CD(s).

I have to say I like Jupiter a bit better but they're both pretty equal.

If you listen to it once through you will kind of like it because they are all kind of similar. If you listen to it a second time, you will absolutly love it. Great harmonizing.

Favorites so far

Snow
Charlie
Stadium Arcadium
Slow Cheetah
Torture Me
Cmon Girl

Tell me Baby
21st Century
Readymade
Animal Bar
So much I
Storm in a teacup

The album is a big let down for me. Music isn't bad. They just didn't deliver the funk like I was expecting.

What RHCP albums do you have?

I'm getting tired of Dani California now. It is being overplayed way too much. Plus, I think there are much better songs on that album.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. I just heard this album (about 80% of it) for the first time over the weekend and I love it. Sure it's not their old funky style, but I think they're just perfecting the style they started on Californication (and expanded on with By The Way).
It's really good mellow groove-oriented music, the whole band performs beautifully, and the album has become one of my new favorite CD's for toking.
It's a great album, just different. It took me about 10 minutes of "getting used to it" time, then I started loving it.

Thing is, is that they dont want to simply ditch the entire style that theyve came up with. The sort of funky, mellow, groove that they made, as MiKe said, on Californication and By The Way. At the same time they go back to their funk roots with songs like Storm In A Teacup (this song sounds like a lost track off of Mother's Milk), Tell Me Baby (one of Flea's nicest bass lines on the album IMO), She's Only 18, its good stuff.

Though i do think that they have too many "normal" songs (none of old school RHCP music is "normal"), its still great music, like a combo of the modern RHCP with influence from the old sex funk one.

I aquired the album and it is amazing.

Fucking fantastic.

Thats not what you said recently.

But I do I agree with you not bringing out there old funkish type music. I still think its one of their top albums.

Yeah I posted that after a once over of the album. At first it seemed really great, and it is great. It is good music, I've just become more dissapointed with its lack of funk like they said it would have.

It's good to hear that you like it, because I remember you saying you were dubious about getting because of what some of your mates said about it.

I probably should have asked you what albums you've heard instead what albums you have. If you want more funk you might want to check out their pre-Mother's Milk albums.

But I think you might like One Hot Minute. A lot of people pass it off as a crap album because John Frusciante wasn't on it and the style was different. But instead we have Dave Navarro who might be a faggoty TV star, but he's also a pretty good guitarist with an interesting psychedelic meets alternative meets metal guitar style. Not to mention, OHM is a great album for Flea. I love it.

Of course it's possible that you've already heard OHM, but it's worth a try anyway :).

So true. Even the Chili Peppers themselves dont like the album and call it an "experimental album", not put out by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But i see it as a masterpiece, Dave really brought some good shit to the band. "Transcending" is probably one of the best RHCP songs, as well as "Aeroplane". Flea takes a more commanding role on the album and i fucking love that, as you mentioned. :dunce:

"readymade" from the mars disc sounds like something that rage against the machine would do. the guitar and bass sounds, the odd beat, it just sounds like them.

i love this album.

yea, OHM is one of my favorite peppers albums right now. flea unleashes his skills on that album more than any other album i think. and anthony's lyrics are VERY philosophical and deep on it... instead of always singing about a girl like he does on stadium arcadium (which gets very stale after a while). but yea, it's a fuckin great album.
