I realized tonight I am an ambassador for music. I burn people CDs, and mail them to them at school or home. I give out burned CDs to every person I can, and I spread music like it's my job.
I know some of you can relate. So I'm doing this sig thing MA, that's it. If some body's got a better name shoot.
Talk about this stuff here.

I can definitely relate to that. Everyone in my year knows that I have over 300 GB of music, and they all know that I'm happy to 'help them to obtain my music' :D. I get people coming to me all the time, including my brother, his friends, my friends, friends of my friends, my family and extended family and people online (many people on this forum too). I often give fans some rare music of their favourite band - bootlegs they didn't know existed.
Aside from that, I often recommend music to people including the music teacher at school. Most people know that I'm absolutely obsessed with music. I'd be happy to put the MA thing in my sig but I'll see if I can think of something better for you.
I think my main aim now is to spread psychedelic rock and 70s prog rock. Also classic rock in general - but not just the popular kind of classic rock. There are so many great and rare classic rock bands which people just don't know about.
I like metal a lot, but I don't think I'm the right person to spread it because despite being into a lot more metal than many people, I'm too much of a generalist to recommend things from specific subgenres. I don't feel that way with psych/prog rock. But it's too early to tell now, because psychedelia is hard to define, and I've only been launched into 70s prog lately.
Either way, I feel as if music has become more than a liking/interest. I feel that I need to help people find out about more bands. I don't feel guilty for burning music for anybody, considering that a good portion of what I recommend is near impossible to buy anyway.

I'm already into the psychedelia of the 60s, but as far as I know, prog only really took off in the 70s. I could be wrong though.
But I'll spend more time on 60s rock than I have in the past, because I feel as if I've neglected it too much in favour of 'newer' classic rock. Here's (http://forum.ebaumsworld.com/showpost.php?p=2177033&postcount=22) one of my posts from a thread about a week or so back. I like those bands, and a lot of them were formed in the 60s.
It's funny because I seem to have a real liking for the music which Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) collects. That music is rare psychedelia and 70s prog. So I'm basing a lot of what I'm listening to on what he has mentioned. He says one of his biggest influences is the (born in 1972) prog rock band, Camel. I'm really liking what I've heard of Camel as well.
Can you tell/recommend me some of your favourite 60s bands?

Of course dude...
The Zombies (Odyssey and Oracle)
Cream (as I'm sure you already know)
The Beach Boys (Pet Sounds)
The Litter
The Allman Brothers (get into their jams)
The Grateful Dead ( again listen to them jam out live)
The Byrds (get a lot of them)
Forever Changes by Love
A few you should look into, assuming you know the more obvious (Beatles, Doors, Etc...)
Fuck dude you know about Velvert Turner Group.....very nice. You know your shit.

Sorry, I forgot about this thread, so it's a bit of a late reply. I guess it's good because it's bumping your thread :).
I like Cream, The Litter, the Allman Brothers and the Grateful Dead. I haven't heard a huge amount of the Byrds and McGuinn's 12 string, but I like what I've heard :D.
I never really took the Beach Boys that seriously, but I've always liked their tunes and their vocal harmonising. I'll give Pet Sounds a listen or two though.
Unfortunately, I haven't heard much of the Zombies and Love - it's strange because I seem to be getting into loads of rare psychedelic bands before many of the bigger ones.
Cheers for those recommendations .

I believe among my group of friends i am the musical ambassador as well. Two of my best friends can thank me for half of the shit they listen to, and ill always burn someone a cd for the next day if it spreads around a good band's name.
