I have seen many people get cheated, so when I took my mom's Impala in for the 60k mile service at the dealership I made sure I knew exactly what they were going to do and made little tell tale marks to make sure it was being done. I went through the car and checked to make sure everything was done and done properly, or I wasn't going to accept the car. I even made sure they did the tranny flush. They did everything they said they would, and I had no problems. They did call and say the belt (which wasn't on the list) needed to be replaced and it would be $100, I of course said no I would do it myself.

The average mechanic sucks anyway, they are part changing monkeys. Most never do any real diagnostic work, they just replace what the computer says is bad. I have seen quite a few times when they replaced a sensor and the real problem was the wire going to the sensor. They just replace a series of parts until they get a result, and you have to pay out the ass for unneeded parts. They usually make up some excuse like, "this is what casused that to go bad" or my favorite "it was going to need to be done soon anyway".

It's hard to find a good honest mechanic, most people are just too easy to rip off.

I know enough that I don't have to worry too much, I generally know what needs to be done when I take mine in, or I at least go under the lift and look at the part in question.

You've just got to find the right place. It's nice finding a place that deserves repeat business. It's best for both parties.

I've been ripped off once when I sent my Corrado in for work, the job should've cost about £600 but ended up being £903. So I threatened them with legal action and they took the price down.

Some of my mates are mechanics now so they're more than happy to help...

Fucking love 'em. Nearly 1/4 the price in labour compared to mainstream VW garage, don't add extra on to parts, give you free shit, forget to charge for stuff, AND specialise in a rare car.

If anyone here is from the UK, has a VW and doesn't want to get ripped off I can highly recommend them. They're over 200 miles away from me and I wont go elsewhere.

I know my bill is going to be sky high, but I also know I'm not being ripped off. My own damn fault for being so god damn modification greedy :(

They also sent this file:

http://www.zen97015.zen.co.uk/647F0008.mp4 Gay Quicktime file. Low quality, but it sounds Hitler enough for my likings :D

i dont ever want to go to a mechanic ever again in my life.... Back in october i was drving my cousins 2002 VW gti 1.8t (chipped, Boost Controller, and Magnaflow nothing special) for about 2 months because she left it here when she went to school. So she said i could drive it every now and then and she also wanted me to take it to Jiffy lube for a just an oil change. So i took it in and before i droped it off i reset the controller and the trip guage. Then the fuckers said it was going to be 45 mins. (who the fuck takes that long) then when i come back from the mall across the street about an hour later to pick it up suprisingly they had it done. So i pay for it then i get in the car and the trip reads 13 miles and the boost guage says the last max was at 19psi. What does that tell me. Those little fuckers drove that car like a fucking bat out of hell. I didnt even bother going and yelling at them but i thought that was fucking ridiculous why should they even have driven it for just an oil change. I refuse to take my car to a mechanic.

most citys have a recycle center that you can take it to, some parts stores like auto zone or advance auto will take it.

Drink it Pat. Please.

As for the Oil Change Golf, you shouldn't have let it lie.
