I borrowed my friends account on here because I am too lazy to make my own...
Ill be going to college soon and need something thats fun to drive, reliable, and not over $10k, and not too ridiculous on insurance.
i dont really have a preference domestic/import because they all have their ups and downs so any suggestions would be great.

Also, is carmax a good place to look for a car? I dont know anyone who has bought from them, and I was just wondering about their prices/dependability?

Nissan 240 sx's are good cars, reliable, good on gas, very fun to drive, and it's RWD

0-60 in about 7.5 - 8.3 secs if you have a stick, dont know about the 1/4 or top speed though. they have about as big of an aftermarket as civics. you can put a s-15 engine swap in it and be making about 230 horses and run 0-60 around 7 secs and that would make it a 6speed. they control great too. Ill probally be getting one around December.
I say you look for one, great cars

Seems as though all the 240SX's i can find have 100k+ miles on them. it needs to be something reliable, and last me 4-6 years, which i worry if a 100k mile car could do...
there was only one on ebay relatively close with 37k miles but sadly was an auto... :banghead:

well if you're only looking to spend only 10k for a fun car with less than 100k miles on it, you're out of luck my friend.

In your price range you are looking at some tradeoffs.
economy/reliability/age/mileage/etc, something has to go.
I'm biased, but I'd recomend a 98-99 ls1 fbody
You can find one in good shape for well under 10k, (prob more like 6k)
Just about the quickest cars around in that price/age range.
Pretty reliable, I have 110k on mine, and she runs damn near perfect.
4 seater, so you can cram in friends if you have too,
hatchback makes it easy to haul a good amount of stuff
28mpg highway, 17 city
insurance, probably about average

80 miles, excellent condition
Although if you are going to college, I'd just buy a beater. You won't be driving much at all, and beer money is much more valuable than having a nice car. College chicks don't give a rats ass what you drive (they aren't used to looking at cars). Working through school sucks, save the cash and relax more.

I spent 9 on my subaru, 56,000 miles, rebuilt engine, repainted, all that good stuff. Good cars are out there, you just have to dig for them.
