I didn't see a thread about this movie...

Anyways, I saw it this weekend and I thought it was actually pretty good. The special effects were awesome, and the acting wasnt half bad. I never saw the original movie, but I think they made a good remake.

I've just never had any interest in it whatsoever. With all the other big budget summer movies like X-Men, DaVinci Code, Superman, and Pirates 2, it just was never something I was looking forward to. It seems like the kind of movie I'll watch if it's on tv and I have nothing better to do.

The whole wave scene was awesome, but I really didn't feel any sort of emotional connection to the characters. Especially the Kurt Russell guy. It just really seemed like he never got along with his daughter and that was it. I didn't want Emmy Rossum to die though, 'cause she's fucking hot. That was enough character development for me there.
And I fucking hate that little kid. With his stupid haircut and awful, annoying voice and his stupid, giant teeth sticking out of his tiny head. I wanted him to die in Amityville Horror, and I wanted him to die here, but he won't. He must be destroyed.

I went into the theatre really excited about this film (I'm a hardcore fan of the 1972 original release). Well, I gotta say that I got screwed. Its almost as if Wolfgang Petersen put his heart in just SFX, and put in a story and characters as afterthought. I respect him alot for Das Boot, The Perfect Storm, and Troy, but he didn't have any effort in this one at all. Poseidon is yet another reason why I hate remakes with passion.

The tidal wave/capsize sequence was awesome. Other than that, not worth the $8.18 that I forked out to see it.

I didn't like it that much. I thought the best part was when all the club kids got slaughtered. That made it worth it for me.

All I gotta say is that Hollywood better leave Earthquake and The Towering Inferno untouched, because nothing compares to the originals.

Actually, I believe The Towering Inferno is being considered. Not sure about Earthquake, but I'm thinkin' once they run out of disasters, they'll give it a go.

A Towering Inferno remake would never work. Because nobody is as cool as Steve McQueen. That goes for the rumored Great Escape and Bullitt remakes (ugh!).

If "The Towering Inferno" ever gets remade, I will go on a murderous rampage. That movie was so goddamn good with McQueen and Paul Newman. And the SFX has held up pretty good considering its age. (The film opened on September 11th 1974:err: )

All told, I've seen "The Poseidon Adventure" 10 times and "The Towering Inferno" about 7. Thats how fucking good those films are.

I like the original movie but after the horrible '95 remake of The Posiedon Adventure, I'm not quite sure I want to fork out any cash to see yet another remake.

I saw it about a week ago and I thought it was ok, and intense, but something about it just didn't seem to fit. it's hard to explain
