for anybody who's read the short story think this should be turned into a movie?
if you haven't read it, read it Here (http://www.scifi.com/scifiction/classics/classics_archive/ellison/ellison1.html).
i for one would think it'd make a great movie. one of the most disturbing stories i've ever read.
what's weird is that it's got a super computer, and this was written in 1967

alright i'll quickly summarize. First off though, this story is pretty popular so i thought people would know.
a super computer named A.M is built to defend the country. However, A.M takes over all the other supercomputers in the world and kills off humankind, however A.M must live forever alone, by himself, so he keeps 4 humans alive, so he may torture them for eternity. He does this out of his hatred for man, for giving him life that he has forever and so he must live alone. These humans are various people from all over the world.
They must find food and water in the most unbareable ways, looking for horrible food and water, while at the same time being tortured by A.M, who throws everything he can at them to make as terrible and terrifying as possible. There is only one woman so she is kind of the "whore" to them. One of the men has been turned nearly into a gorilla (kind of), but with a monsterous wang. the rest are normal, with the lead character still in his mind. they had been tortured for nearly 109 years now, they are pretty much invincible because A.M is constantly watching them. A very important aspect is none of them trust each other, in fact have a sort of hatred for each other.
well anyway, they make their way to find some food and water, A.M tortures them and throws horrible obstacles in their way. they get to the food, and they realize this could be their only chance to end it all. they all kill each other, except the lead character is the only one left. A.M is so enraged, he turns him into something jellylike, but with a concience, so he must now endure all eternity with A.M while being tortured, he can never move, he can't eat, he has no mouth and he can't scream (where the title comes from).
so basically he's in hell and now he's alone in hell for all eternity.

that's ok, you have your opinion. but i've never heard of that movie.
EDIT: a just looked up the movie, interesting plot, but it isn't anything like this one, and besides, this story was made in 1967. A sound of thunder was made in 2005
apparently "a sound of thunder" is crap from what reviews i'm reading about it. lol

That was kind of a funny summarization, I think i'll read the story before I even consider this a movie idea.

It was made into a PC game back in the mid 90's, havent played it though, but it looked pretty cool. It was an adventure type game that has since pretty much gone out of style.

If it had thought monologues, it would be a really really intersting and good movie. And a creepy one too.
But if it just shows the events and only hinted to what the main character was thinking it would bea random scary movie filled with symbolism and ending for viewers to interpret.
Both a win so thumbs up.

that's how i remembered the story, i first remembered the game for some odd reason, so i decided to read the story, and i got hooked. unfortunately since it's a short story, its potential isn't fully realized, but it's such a disturbing, thought provoking plot i really think it could make a great full length movie.
Hollywood, is in desperate need of good movies.

sorry lol, i didn't know how to put it.

A Sound of Thunder was also written in the 60's, its a great short story but they ruined the movie.

you took the words right outta my mouth
Yeah, it was made in the 60's, it's a short story that you can read at this site if you want

It's not long, but very interesting :)
But the movie was one of the biggest flops in movie history. Like an 80 million dollar budget for graphics that look like the PS1, no name brand actors, sets that looked like something you'd see made in Quebec, and a script that HAD to be written by amateurs eating noodles in a basement. And grossed like a million bucks. Ouch.

i say no. for one reason and one reason only...hollywood so easily destroy the fabric of what makes it a good story. you know it, i know it, my retarded cousin knows it. if i had any faith in hollywood's abilites to make a good movie out of a short story that doesnt have such a painful attention to detail then i'd say go, but nope.

Yes, the ape-dude gets rebuilt by A.M. with a giant penis.

I don't see any reason why that would go over poorly. People are exactly offended by penises.
EDIT: The female character was black though. Audiences might not respond too well to that.

Well it said something like "her ebony features in the snow" towards the end.

The funniest part is that chimps and gorrillas have small wangs compared to humans. But a monkey-man with a giant dick is funny. The story was cool but I doubt that the movie would be any good. Hollywood would find a way to fuck it up.

I think the odds are high that it would be a bad movie, but I don't see why that should stop it from being made. What's one more flop if it does turn to shit?
