Ok for all you people going 'fun games are about gameplay not graphics' sure your right.
However pushing that aside. Graphics and Power combined in the proper way, can lead to some fucking awsome games.
Observe (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6095705873595441920&q=physx) This is a ingame video of a game called CellFactor. This entire game is basically built around the Ageia PhysX engine. The PS3 and Xbox360 will both support this game.
Ok, so basically you have crazy physics everywhere, and in that game the world is a bit weird. So your thinking what does this have to do with realistic games? well quite alot actually. Imagine playing some tatical shooter, you have to infiltrate a base full of guards, there are 3 main entrances both fully guarded. Most games at the moment leave you with no other choice but to go to these fully guarded entrances, however think about it, why not make your own entrance in a area where there are no guards?
Metal BEnding Demo (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1312309595073212700&q=physx) Why not drive your truck through a metal plated wall?
Mass destruction technollogy (http://www.pixeluxentertainment.com/index.cfm?link=demo) Or why not blow a hole in the concrete wall.
I dont see how some people can say 'why dont we bother getting better graphics' Why? So the games we play become far more evolving, the AI gets more intelligent making for more stratigic games, the stuff you can do increases fuck loads, the visuals become alot cleaner and sharper, so you not lookign at a few dots etc etc.
Im probably going to get flamed for been anti-Wii, however i dont care im talking about the power you can get out of the other consoles, im not talking about the Wii, im talking about all the advances in the game play due to power, not imput, im talking about the more advanced technology this power allows us to use. The Wii is a good console however again not for me, however if i may by some weird accident have said 'the wii is crap' i do not mean it.

Well, I agree, to an extent....
Better graphics are alright and everything, but better physics actually can have a direct impact on gameplay. I'd sacrifice graphics for phyics anyday.
Think of it this way:
You want to create a game that really captures the feel of huge medieval battles. Now, you've created something that's visually beautiful. Armor gleams and reflects textures with realistic refraction of light. Horses' muscles ripple underneath a coat of fur with beads of sweat that sparkle. Banners ripple in the wind, and blood pools on the ground as you slaughter the hordes. But with ten characters on screen, you're running at 7 fps.
How about pulling back? Ditch the high poly models, the pixel shading, the real time light and shadows. And instead put more into the physics. Now you can run at a decent 30 fps with 200 units on screen and even have a unique siege system.
Think about it.

You're giving examples of how developers can use the better graphics to make the gameplay better. They're not just having really cool ripple effects on the water, they're actually doing something with the graphics. And I totally agree with you that this makes games better. The complaint is that someonetimes developers focus on graphics instead of gameplay, which is not true about the examples you gave.
And like I've been saying, if the games you mentioned are the types of games that you are most interested in, then the PS3 or 360 is the system for you. I personally would rather play Mario, Zelda, and SSB on a console and use my computer to play FEAR, Half-Life and those types of games.

thats a good point, however if you put into context what your getting with the PS3 for its price, then you build a pc that competes with it, the price difference is big, besides PC proccessors have a while to catchup with the Cell.
Its getting hard to say consoles and pcs are completely different, as the gap is closing.

I agree when comparing prices, a PC is pretty damn expensive. But I figure if I've already spent so much money on my computer I really don't need to spend another $600 on a console. For someone who doesn't already have a nice computer but still wants to play FPSs with incredible graphics, a PS3 or 360 is a great option because it's cheaper than building a super powerful computer.

Red Faction did that 5/6 years ago.

fucking LOVED RED FACTION. and thats what reminded me of it.
However there no new games that have that feature, and besides as good as it was in RF it was a little basic.

one example of a game with both great physics and storyline is oblivion. red faction was awsome with the desruction aspect. but graphics aren't the only factor, i've played games with awesome graphics but they sucked. sometimes adding these things to games takes away what made it fun. a good example of this is halo 2. the bad unrealistic physics made halo1 fun as hell.
EDIT: this would mostly apply to fps' though or 3rd person, any other game types that could use ragdoll phys. (Fps, Rpg,???)

The new Crysis game is supposed to be "fully interactive". One demo I saw shows how far you can interact, right down to shooting trees down and cutting bushes.

navid you are an idiot.
Look at old PS1/NES/SNES/N64 games. They have shit graphics compared to nowadays. But the games were and still are really fun.
A good example of gameplay > graphics would be the original Timesplitters for the PS2. The first thing I thought when I played it was "wow these graphics really suck". But after playing it for a few minutes I thought "this is so fucking fun". Compare Timesplitters to the shit FPS's nowadays with good graphics like Halo 2 and F.E.A.R.(no matter what you fanboys say they were not fun compared to a good FPS. They had good graphics and well, that's pretty much it) and you will agree that Gameplay is much more important than graphics.

I just bought a Xbox 360 controller to use with my PC, and now I can play emulated console games with a controller. Yay, once again, total versatility.
