Battlefield 2 v1.3 out yay!

New Features:

* Co-op: Players can now enjoy single player levels on Internet and LAN play with both Bots and human players. We have added a few options to allow the server admin to modify how the bots behave in game. Co-op play is not permitted on ranked servers.
* Air Dropped Vehicles: Squad members can no send a request to commanders to drop vehicles at their location.

Bug Fixes & Gameplay Tweaks:

* Ban list will no longer be wiped in the event of a server crash.
* Abandoned helicopters will no longer remain in flight.
* If a player joins a squad while dead they will not be permitted to use the squad leader as a spawn point until they have spawned at a flag once.
* Flag Capture bar will now react accurately to players entering the capture radius.
* Friendly vehicles will no longer appear as valid targets for missile systems. The box with the X through it will still appear however the locked tone will not sound and missiles fired will not track the friendly target.
* Fixed the crash that sometimes occurred when switching between game types.
* Fixed a tech hang when creating a single player account from an offline account.
* Fixed Issues with remote console and Linux servers.
* Fixed the issue that prevented players from ranking up in-game when playing on their regular server.
* Fixed the bug that altered mini map behavior.
* Fixed issue with Special Forces rank names.
* Fixed repairing HUD for the engineer when in a vehicle.

It's been out for like 2 weeks and I've been loving it.

You know, I've been playing BF2 for a long time and I have never looked into that Battlefield 2142: Titan thing. I guess it's just a BF2 mod like Nations at War.

NaW is a great mod btw. They have a map that only has planes and helo's too.

Battlefield 2142 is a brand new game that will be coming out in the near future, it's not a mod. I think the 1.3 patch kinda blows, I'm getting a lot more server crashes then I used to.

The server I play on is full contact war, you can get all the info at fullcontactwar.com. It's a 64 player ranked server with some of the best players I've seen in the game on it, and it's very very fun. Almost everyone squads up and they use the voice over IP a lot which makes for a very strategic, squad based game. Check it out.

I have a friend who is really into battlefield 2 and he says this patch has 'fucking ruined it'.

I think battlefield 2 is a good idea, however DICE and EA have severly fucked up every aspect, from stupid menus to glitches. I mean they advertise 'complex physics' on the box ... what fucking physics?.

same, what the hell is wrong with this game. It was so flawed for me when it came out, it took 15 minutes to join a game if i could even do that. now after all this time, it still takes forever to join, and now the games are laggy for me again.

Yes, it does. I'm glad you mentioned that though, because I was starting to think I just didn't have enough RAM. RAM is always good, but it's good to see my PC isn't that bad. I did notice, after the 1.3 patch, it started crashing more frequently.

What kind of RAM and how much do you people have? I currently only have 512 MB DDR 266, and can only run the game on "low". What do you have, and what do you run?

I have an AMD Athlon 2500+, 1 gig of RAM, and a Radeon 9600XT 256MB gfx card, i used to run it on medium, but after that patch, i turned it down to low, but i still get lag. when i join a server, it takes much longer than before, and i get about 30secs of jerkiness once i join, then it settles down...until it either crashes or dumps my connection, that is.

I currently only have the GF 5600 128MB. It think I'll try to upgrade to 1-2 GB of RAM, but I think all in all, I'll need another video card.

I want to run it on high, but you need like an all out gaming PC.

512 MB of ram?....ouch! you should upgrade to 2Gb. you know what they say about ram, it's the cheapest alternative to speeding up your comp, especially for gaming.

I was playing BF2 with 512 for a while and just recently upgraded to 1g; it's a huge improvement and I highly recommend it.

The new vehicle drop has its ups and downs. I really really hate it when they drop the vehicles on spawn points for other vehicles like choppers and planes.

I'm still running only BF2 right now. I went looking all over for Special Forces today but couldn't find it anywhere!

Well, after looking, I currently have two 256MB DDR RAM sticks, and have three total DIMM RAM slots. I can (a) take out the two sticks, and replace them with two GB sticks, and have one slot left, but the mobo can only handle 2 GB's total, or (b) buy 1 GB stick, and two 512 sticks, filling all three slots. They're basically the same concept, but which would be cheaper?

Also, I believe I've decided to go with Kingston RAM.

I wasn't even aware that you can play with anything less than 1.3. It does have it's plus, which are the vehicle drop, and a few other changes, but it does crash more than any previous patch.

The crashes depend on which expansions you have and your video card.

I've had no problem with 1.3 since it came out up until today (when i bought my first expansion pack... special forces) The game wouldn't play and would crash to desktop.

But I fixed it... all I had to do was re-install 1.3 after i installed SF onto my already 1.3 bf2 and it worked after i restarted the computer.


p.s. SF IS SO MUCH FUN! I love being a sniper now.

Kinda pushing it with the video card. You could probably run it on all low settings, with no view distance and experience minimal lag. Your RAM should be fine, I play with a gig as well and I don't stutter.

BF2 is fun but that game is made so badly. You get so many random hangs mine used to freeze at the log on screen for several minutes doing nothing. I also randomly get connection lost from server.

Its a fun game, Armored Fury came out yesterday and was a ton of fun. Tank whore city!!!
Patch 1.3 sucked ass, but the at least fixed the feed to the browser so we can find servers again. I also thought it was lame that they lowered the badge requirements for everything. I had the Knive expert the hard way....and now its easy

The map, Operation Road Rage, has plenty of tanks. Usually you can get one no problem. Last night, I was in a battle where there were 5 tanks on each side blowing each other up...I died...counted 9 RPG's fly over my body from anit-tanks. It, so far, has stayed that way a bit. Its balanced well so air power isnt too powerful (plenty of AA), many tanks and APC's. Wide open spaces with some small towns. Lots of good words both on BF2's forum at EA, BF2s, and the forum in my sig for stats.

Better then Eurofarce by a long shot. I am happy I got it.

I recently got SF and unlocked a bunch of the SF weapons, but why can't I choose them? I can only choose the main on and the first unlocked one, not the SF unlock one :(

The unlocks are weird. I think you unlocked them in BF2 SF, but cant choose them for SF excpet in vanilla. I am not sure though to tell the truth.
