Meanwhile, that riff in Magic Johnson at 2:12 is soooo good. It's one of my favourite riffs ever and if I had to describe it in a few words, I'd say it sounds fruity, fresh and tasteful.

Yeah, we've had two threads about this, but please don't resurrect them.

I think it's rubbish. Basically RHCP uses a chord progression which is very popular in rock in the first 8 bars of the song, and it happens to be somewhat similar (not even the same) to Mary Jane's Last Dance after a radio host edits it and screws around with it to serve his own purposes.

The idiot of a radio host said the songs were similar because they're both about a girl. What he conveniently ignored is that Mary Jane is referring to marijuana, not a girl.

I think it's a ploy for the radio host to gain more listeners by making stupid accusations. In effect, he's accusing RHCP of not having enough creativity to write a song without ripping it off.

Yet not only are they considered one of the most creative (and accomplished) bands around, but they had too much music to fit on to one new album. It doesn't sound to me as if they're at a level where they've dried out and have to rip off other artists' music.

I mean there is a reason why Tom Petty hasn't done anything about these accusations. It's because he realises they're rubbish.

Man, the Chili Peppers are fuckin awesome. My favorites are pretty much everything listed in this thread, plus a couple from Stadium Arcadium. Storm In A Teacup and Animal Bar, if you ask me, are just amazing songs. I dont know why, I just cant stop listening to them.
