Did anyone watch the horrendous rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner performed by American Idol washout Elliot Yamin at the beginning of Sunday's Dallas Mavericks game. I wanted to shove icepicks into my ears to stop the pain. That is the first time I have heard the anthem get booed in a bar. Even worse, that little cock smoker was wearing a Mavs jersey.:banghead:
Star Spangled Banner. Because it's the American national anthem, yet written by an Englishman.

I muted it for the anthem both games, I thought they both sucked. Made me a little embarassed that that's all the Mavs could roll out there. Oh well, at least it wasn't as bad as that one girl during that Mavs-Blazers playoff game a few years back who choked and had to be helped out by Maurice Cheeks.

The thing that pisses me off is that people nowadays have to "cream it all up", and make it sound all flashy. Just saying the fucking thing without a sing-songey voice is the best way to go.

In all fairness she was very young and in front of a large crowd. I also thought it was very classy the way Cheeks handled that.

Yeah that drives me crazy too.

Did you come up with that all by yourself or did you have help? I am guessing it required some help. All I know about that guy is that he is from Virginia and is an Atlanta Braves fan.

The music was written by an Englishman long before you even gained independence. So he was half right jackass. I'd be suprised if you could even tell me the first two words of the second verse of your own national anthem without looking them up.

Slightly off topic but when England played Jamaica the guy who sung their song must've gone on for way over 5 minutes.

I was waiting for this. Who looks the jackass now? Don't comment on something you obviously know nothing about.

The anthem was written by an American. The fact that he put it to the tune of an old song that may have been penned by an Englishman does not mean the anthem was written by an Englishman, it just mean Key was not a musician, but a poet. You said written, which implied words or lyrics, I am sure you can see how one might be easily mislead by your choice of wording. In any case it is our anthem, not yours, so who gives a fuck.

Ofcourse not. It is the words and the meaning of what it represents that matter.
