Well over here in the tri state area, 92.3 isn't all that bad. I mean mornings with Opie and Anthony is what I live for. During the day, it is basically classic rock with a few modern hard rock like Audioslave, Wolfmother, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Tool.

In Maryland we had 106.9 The Eagle. It was amazing. They played all classic rock, they fucking owned.
Out here though (NM) we don't get much. An oldies station that is decent and a bunch of Spanish stations.

The stations where I live suck. There's a rock station, a rap station, a pop station, a country station, and a classical station. They play the same songs 50 times a day over and over. Sometimes you'll hear the same song playing on 2 different stations at the same time. You would think there would be some sort of college stations around since there are 3 major colleges just in this city. I want to hear some alternative music dammit. Something that maybe plays local or new artists. I'm tired of all the mainstream crap.

You think radio is bad in the US, you seriously need to come to the UK and have a listen to the utter shit that pollutes our FM airwaves.
The commercial stations in the UK all play pretty much the same stuff (and usually at the same time) and it's usually just godawful chart/dance type stuff.
The BBC took a huge dump on the people of England when they handed Radio 1 over to a bunch of yobs that pass for DJ's, and since John Peel died (rest his soul) there are zero DJ's at the BBC worth listening to.
Radio in the UK sucks.

Am I right in saying that the closest thing to a rock/metal station in the UK is XFM?
Because if I am, :wah:

Radio 1 can be fantastic during the middle of the night. One World, The Breezeblock and Worldwide with Gilles Peterson are all fantastic shows. But you're right, Radio 1 hasn't been the same since John Peel passed away..

New Jersey has one average classic rock starion named 104.3
Other than that, it has two DISTURBINGLY BAD hip hop stations and a bunch of pop crap
And some stations like 92.3 and 95.5 that played alternative rock are going downhill in quality fast.

I don\'t listen to radio at all - largely due to my disgust when it\'s been forced on me...

My dad got Sirius satellite in his car... That thing fucking rules, I can always find a station or song to listen to in there. Plus you have sports, weather, traffic, and stand-up comedy all on their own channels... I love it.

It's $13 a month with an activation fee of $10... The radio itself is between $50 and $100 depending on which you get.

Yeah, pretty much. I hope you were using the term 'rock/metal radio' in it's broadest possible terms though.
There's Planet Rock on DAB, which is actually an OK station. They have a fairly high recycle rate though, and far too many adverts.
Radio 1 can be fantastic during the middle of the night. One World, The Breezeblock and Worldwide with Gilles Peterson are all fantastic shows. But you're right, Radio 1 hasn't been the same since John Peel passed away..
I'm usually asleep or at work when those shows are on. If I remember, I'll try and record a couple of those shows and have a listen.
I think that John Peel's passing has left a huge gap in radio. There's no-one that I can see to replace him.... well, not replace, because that wouldn't be possible, but to take up his position in promoting new, unsigned bands from a wide spectrum of music and actually caring about the music they play rather than just following the corporate playlist, and also having the feintest idea of what they're talking about.

When I have to listen to the radio 101.1 WRIF typically works... Even better, If I'm really bored I can drive around at Midnight on a Friday and they actually play metal.
That was only at work, where the one dumbass would bitch about the day going by slow if the radio wasn't on. I just listen to CDs at any other time.

Radio in central Va. has sucked ever since Clear Channel bought the strongest rock station (96.3 WROV) and alternative station (K92.3). Now it's nothing but the same crap all day long every day. The only time these stations are decent to listen to is in the early morning, like 1-4am. Johnboy and Billy are pretty cool from 6-10am on ROV but after that it's going to suck until about midnight. I'm stuck listening to it at work from 7-5:30 everyday. It's enough to make you go insane.
Tomorrow is the horror known as "Two for Tuesday" where they play the same band twice in a row. This means roughly 8 Rolling Stones songs, 8 Led Zepplin, 6 Def Leopard. There is no variety at these stations it's always the exact same songs. I used to think Zepplin and the Stones were ok, but now I'm just sick and tired of them. You might hear some Pearl Jam, AIC, or Stone Temple Pilots about once a week.
For anyone who knows what I'm talking about- ROV doesn't Rock, it sucks.

miss the south florida radio now that Im here in Orlando, the radio stations here suck sooooo much, in south florida even tho during the day the radio is bad once it was 5 oclock, all the awesome DJs woujld pop out. Hip Hop stations would have DJ mixing live and scratching and doing all this good ass shit, Rock stations would play popular rock, play indie rock, local rock, and even spanish rock. Some stations down in miami even had bands playing live. Gah how I miss south florida night radio. Here in Orlando they have crappy ass rock and rap stations

I now consider FM radio like AM radio was years ago since Sirius and XM radio came along. I only listen to FM when I am in my car because my antenna can pick so many stations. We used to have WHFS here on 99.1 until some crappy hispanic station took over one day. It's not even good hispanic music either. Although I believe WHFS is on another station now, still it bothers me that a radio station can be taken over in a heartbeat w/out any warning.

Damn straight, Gravy Train is where it's at!!
We used to have a couple of good radio stations in Austin. 101X was nice for a while, now they play a bunch of trend rock mixed with a few good tunes here and there. 102.3 used to be a badass classic rock station until it turned into The River, a christian station. The worst thing about this is my alarm clock has two different radio and alarm settings, and while I can change the channel to listen to different stations, the station that is used for my alarm in the morning is stuck on The River and I can't figure out how to change it. :wah:
Fuck clearchannel right in it's ass, I say.

101.1 and 101.5 are cool. 97.9 used to be cool but they are starting to play more and more trendy music. I puked in my mouth when I heard them playing Fallout Boy and I have been to afraid to turn to that station now.

Radio around here sucks. Theres 5 main stations (93.7, 96.5,95.7,104.1,and 106.9)
They all suck.
The only decent one is 106.9 but most of the time they do more talking then actual playing of music. Dee Snider once has a show on that station before. They play rock n stuff. 104.1 was modern rock too, but then it was some gay corporate decision to make them go all rap. Which now is completely gay because alll the the 5 up there (with the exception of 106.9) is all rap and "Whats hot" type of stations. Connecticut Sucks.
Its a good thing i hook up my mp3 player.
And not ipods, those suck too. I got a Zen Vision:M.
