First one makes a lot of sense, as your mind naturally adds the 5 and the 2 (from the 12) together to get 7 after answering the series of addition problem, and in realizing that 7 is in the range 12 to 5, it is a natural first choice.

As for the other two, I haven't put any research into them, but would love to hear if anyone knows for sure how they work...
