Sweden do have a very good record against England. We haven't them in 11 games. Hopefully we'll up our game though!

FUCK! We are only a minute in an Owen is injured and its looking like he will be subbed. Probably for Crouch, even though he is on a yellow.

Edit: Lampard needs to stop hogging the ball. That shot was crap, he should have passed.

Joe Cole! That was an excellent shot! So calm and casual it just floated straight in!

England 1 - 0 Sweden

I loved what the commentator said just before the shot. "Joe Cole, why not?"

Great first-half. Best I've seen England play in a long time. I feel bad for Owen but I have to be honest, I'd much prefer Crouch on anyway.

If I was Sven right now. I'd make zero changes.....Lets see...

ha ha, you guys picking up on all the swearing in the game? I can't remember exactly what was said but 'fuck yeah' or something of the sort after England scored and the funniest was before that with the hand ball off Ashley Coal. 'What a wanker', 'What the fucks going on?!'.

:D

Great goal there in the first half, what a shot from so far back.

England is certainly beginning to play like they want the cup. The first two games of this series, I wasn't so sure. Now it seems like they are in the contest.

It really sucks that there are two games on at once for all the final round group games. I'm sure I'm going to end up missing several games that I'd like to see, which is lame.

It adds up to the competence. If they play when the other teams have already played, then there can be high chances that the teams will just play with the result.

Interesting thing is that on a midfield with Beckham, Lampard and Gerrard, Joe Cole was the best English player, today...

That was intense, can't believe Sweden got that last goal in. England played well considering and it doesn't affect them in the cup but I can't help but feel a little dissapointed. England hasn't beaten Sweden since 1968 or something in that region, it was so close. That's pretty much why I watched the match.

(lol, joe coal has the same name as sherlock.)

I still don't understand why Sven wont play Carrick. Hargreaves had a good game, he hustled for the ball and did his best getting around the pitch, I take nothing away from him but Carrick has developed so well in that role and his tidyness infront of the back two and his distribution coming away from the box is the reason Spurs did so well this year, so why not play him ? Like I said, nothing against Hargreaves but surely Carrick is the better player in that role.

They got the result they needed and showed in the first half taht they could contend but you cant help but worry about that second half display.

Beckham was very quiet, I don't think he plays aswell with Carragher behind him, Carragher tried his best to overlap Beckham but Beckham just seem to go in field. I rate Carragher higher than Neville (even as a Man Utd fan) but I dont think Carragher plays fullback as good as Neville, especially with Beckham on the wing.

Rooney was starting to get those touches he can create things from and with alittle more fitness he will do well. I still think we'll play better once him and Gerrard link up. Hopefully Neville will be back to hopefully bring the best out of Beckham and Carragher or Campbell are both good enough to sit in for Ferdinand.

Hopefully we can get a good lead against Ecudor and finally give Walcott a chance, now that Owens on his way home, he needs to incase Rooney doesnt fully recover on a fitness level.

Lastly, why is Lampard shotting so much. He has had officially the most shots at goal and still hasnt scored.

It seems like shooting is all he can do.

If this is apparently our strongest England squad since 1966 then in the other tournaments our teams must have been made up of players suffering from downs syndrome.

It sucks for Owen but imagine how Newcastle Utd are feeling. By the time he comes back from injury he will have been at St.James Park for nearly a year and a half, thats about 75 weeks. He must be on a wage of about £90,000 a week and then add that to the £17 million transfer fee, your talking a total of around £22,500,000 for 10 games of football and 7 goals.

£3,214,000 per goal.
£2,250,000 per game.

Unbelievable, I always tought you couldn't beat English defenders when it comes to heading, and how did Sweden score their two goals?

Joe Cole played well, he's one of my favorite players. Hopefully he won't get benched at Chelsea next year.

And Eriksson should have brought another striker with him. An unfit Owen and Rooney and Crouch, that just isn't enough. And why did he bring Walcott if the poor guy can't even play for like 2 or 3 minutes. Why did he even bring him AT ALL?

MrDeliquent85
06-22-2006, 05:57 AM
The main reason I dont like Sven is because he seems to just go with big names all the time. He's scared to drop any of the big name players no matter how much they should be dropped. Owen is the best example, why did he even take him ? Ok so Owen can pop up and score goals when least expected but he's only played about 7 full games in the last 2 years, you think any other manage would have took him ? you think Big Phil would have took him ? I wouldnt have, not with out atleast some sort of similar type player as back up (like Defoe).

He knew Own wasnt going to be top of his game and knew an injury could happn so soon after his return. Walcott who has never played top flight football. Rooney who we knew no matter what was never going to be fully match fit.

So Sven knew he was going to the world cup possibly with Crouch as his only forward, why he didnt just drop Jenas (who wont get a minutes play) and take Defoe, Bent or Johnson is crazy. He still could have took Walcott as a young wildcard, just back that up incase you lose your bollocks and dont play the kid.

Good post, JJ is shite. He does nothing, I was trying to see what he did at Spurs this season, he's crap, doesn't score, doesn't assist, he's poo.

I still think England will come good, Rooney looks up for it.

Agreed! I just think in the World Cup we need all of our talent, 7 games or not Owen has talent and now he's hurt, that hurts morale......then again I might not have taken him either.:rollseyes.
