I've always been big fan of boxing, but due tio the politics of it all, there seem to be fewer good matchups nowadays. UFC is more brutal and as its in its infancy in many ways the fighters look to impress and to stand out. My question is do you prefer boxing, or UFC style fighting?

I like kickboxing more than either of them nowadays. Boxing has grown old to me unless it is world class fighters and the UFC has become to ground oriented to be fun to watch. There is a kickboxing tournament I love which I think is called the K2 tournament or something along those lines.

They're both boring, but boxing at least has some incredible history, besides the fact that it's the most fixed sport in the world. MMA is ok, just very overrated, I give it a couple more years then it will fade into oblivion as more and more deadbeats are given contracts and as stand up fighting fades even more.
I prefer boxing to MMA, i do watch UFC when its on but the lower weight class fight are just plain boring

Well, I disagree, I think the lower weight classes are more exciting, They are full of energy and go at it for the full three or five rounds.

I prefer MMA/UFC over boxing...like someone's already said (I think), there's no real marketable superstar in boxing, so I'm not drawn to it really, and the matchups are weak...it's two people fighting eachother and you have no idea who either of them is.

UFC is so shit, I watched it the other day, and they were hugging each other for an hour. Boring too, it was slightly gay at times.
At least boxing you get to see someone get knockd the fuck out!
Now someone's going to say "its amazing, you have to be so tough and hard you couldn't last a minute in there"
True, however, if I wanted a big muscular man to hug me for half and hour I'd of paid 30 euros and gone to Amsterdam.

Ill watch both though UFC can get bogged down in holds some times which is ok if you like that type of MMA but I prefer the stand up strikers.

Exactly, its alright, but it's shit wen they start to hug.

Degeneration X is back. That in itself is more entertaining than UFC and Boxing combined.

its called respect for eachother you idiot.
instead of being all bumbling ghetto-to-riches kids who just swing like theres no tomorrow, ufc has very professional fighters compared to boxing. they are discplined in so many arts and they have respect for eachother.

I enjoy both but I prefer MMA to boxing primarily because there's a lot more possibilities to attack and defend yourself while fighting. If the UFC fails to bring your attention to MMA, watch a PRIDE FC clip. People may say that ultimate fighting is an awful showmanship of brutality but it is very much a professional sport with world-class athletes. If Japan - a country which is a lot less violent than America - can embrace MMA, so can Americans.

That's the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard. Seriously, don't knock a sport when you don't know what the fuck it is.

take away submissions and clinching, and both sports become much more interesting

lol. you say it like it is a fact but it's just your opinion, man.
i happen to think that submissions and grappling adds a whole new dimension to fighting and makes it much more interesting.

Sorry but UFC will never have the rivalries, trilogies, and build-up to fights like boxing has. UFC fights just don't deliver in the entertainment field. I've seen people compare Ortiz-Shamrock to Gatti-Ward, they're nowhere in the same league. I kind of feel bad for people who shell out the money to watch UFC on PPV.

You know what? Boxing is SHIT. UFC is like real fighting. Its so much more deadly. It incorperated all forms of combat into one sport. I especially like the ground fighting, the takedowns, and the submission holds. I come from a wrestling background, ao i can appreciate some of the stuff they're doing.
Whenever a UFC fight is fought all standing up im like BOOOOO!!! (sylvia-arlovski)

I think that boxing suffers from having too many champions, no HW must see fighters, and corruption.
MMA has only two major associations, (and inter-league fights have resumed!!) and has dominant fighters in every weight class.
I prefer MMA, and I think in two years, boxing will be overtaken in PPV buys, attendance, and hype. Boxing will still have the higher purses, tho:p

Just because you do not understand jiu-jitsu, judo, and sambo, grappling may seem boring to you. However, any sport seems boring when you do not understand a huge part of it. I suggest you learn more about it before claiming something is fucking boring. Watching a striker fight a jiu jitsu blackbelt is probably one of the most entertaining, unique things that MMA brings to the fighting sports. It offers so much more variety than boxing and kickboxing.
but you caant knock somebody the fuck out with submissions, and all ufc fights eventually degrade to submissions.
But you can put somebody to sleep or break an arm off. I do not understand how that is less decisive of a win than a KO. Watch some of Royce's early UFC fights to see what I mean. And secondly, UFC fights do NOT "degrade" to submissions. That is a ridiculous statement to make. First of all, the majority of UFC fights are decided by TKO and decisions, and secondly, there is no "degrading" when you win by triangle or armbar or heelhook. Just a different type of win.
I believe that in a few years MMA will become the new face of martial arts.
