View Full Version : In baseball, there is no forgiving?

I have a question, when pitchers hit the baseball players with balls, how come the pitchers never apologize and ask for forgiveness?

I always wonder about that. Like they hit the players, but dont say they are sorry for doing it, and may shake hands afterwards or give that person a hug, just so everything is peaceful on the field.

Usually its because the pitcher and hitter are going at it each other in a sense. They are versing each other at that moment of the game, its a mini battle. Even if its an unintentional hit, they will not apologize. It is simply part of the game and it happens. It's like a football player tackling another player or a hard foul in basketball, its part of the game and rarely do any of the players apologize.

There are signs in sports where sportsmanship is shown. In basketball, sometimes players will help a player from the opposing team up from the floor. In baseball, if the ball bounces away from the catcher (and no one is on base), the hitter will pick up the ball and hand it to him. In football, when a player runs out of bounds into the opposing teams sidelines, the players will try to catch him. In soccer, sometimes you will players help stretch out another team's player's leg, if they are suffering from cramps.

Soccer is one of the only sports I see where if a player falls on the ground, another player will help him up most of the time. I dont ever see it in another sport. I am not trying to glorify soccer or make it seem better, its just what I have observed and I find it pretty consistent and interesting...

^ nice avatar!!

But yeah, they probably don't apologize because they aren't ever sorry, I sure as shit know I wasn't. Especially at the level of play that you are watching on TV. These guys are good enough to know they are coming inside and know they may hit the batter. And if they do, they are more pissed that they let one get away from them then they are sorry that they hit the guy. It's part of the game. It does happen though, but it's very subtle. A glance or a nod of the head on the way to first base is all you'll ever really get. No pitcher is gonna yell I'm sorry or walk up to the guy or anything.
