This game is pretty much at half. It is 2-1 Ghana. I want USA to win this, but after that Penalty kick from Ghana. I don't know anymore.
Go USA!

And thus we discover why America doesn't like soccer: the refs decide all the games.

that penalty kick was bullshit. Onyewu was going for the ball, won the ball, and didn't push anywhere near Pimpong. The ref shouldn't have called anything and the score should be 1-1. These refs are fucking this tournament right in the ass with their shitty reffing.

Yes, I know. This is the 4th or 5th game I have watched with shitty reffing.

This shitty sport needs instant replay or challenges or something to make it less shitty.

Even if there was no peno, it would still be 1-1 and the USA Would still be out. But still not a PK

Harsh penalty decision but USA HAD to win this game and apart from the goal and McBride's header onto the post USA didnt look capable of scoring 2.
Casey Keller kept the scorline respectful in the end pulling off 2 or 3 quality saves.

i think if there was no penalty, US wouldve at least tied the game or win it. they improved a lot compared to the last two games.
i was watching two games at once (switching channels back and forth) my head hurts :confuzed:

Even with the PK, the U.S. just couldn't get another goal anyway. Oh well. Congrats Ghana

gah I was rooting for Germany at the start before seeing how the games have been going, I hope Germany goes but I think that the top shape teams are Argentina and Spain

The penalty kick did more than put us down, it changed the entire momentum of the game, and the mentality of the players. Had the penalty kick not taken place, I feel we'd have had a chance. The momentum was in our favor (especially after that BEAUTIFUL goal) up until that point, the penalty kick basically slammed the door in our faces, on so many levels.
It was stupid, but what can we do? The US played decently, but they were not World Cup quality. Ghana played fabulously and deserved to go to the next round. Where they will be eaten alive by Brazil, but hey, better them than us.

I agree the call was bullshit, but it happens in every sport, not just soccer. You can look at all the complaints by people in the NBA finals this past week. You can look at all the complaints in the last Superbowl. Bad officiating is not sport specific, quit with that shit. It happens in most sports.
I don't think the U.S. team or fans should dwell on this game too much. They didn't deserve to advance into the next round, with their play in the World Cup. They had a very poor game against CR, a so so game against Italy and a slightly better game against Ghana. They had a hard time creating scoring oppurtunities, this team disappointed me. Congrats to Italy and Ghana, they deserved to advance.

I am not the biggest soccer fan, but I don't understand the second round.
I know the first place team plays 2nd, and the other 2nd plays first, but do they only play one game then they are eliminated? So what is it?

It's a single leg (only one game, not home and away) knockout or single elimination tournament after the round robin group stages. What's so hard about that? You seem to get the way more complicated round robin, what don't you understand about the simpler knockout stages?

whoever does the ranking in fifa should be extremely embarassed and a revamp of the way they give concaf teams such ridiculous rankings is pathetic. die usa

Well, the US really isn't that bad of a team. Ghana surprised everyone. While I'll agree that the US didn't deserve as high a ranking as they have, they are still a fairly decent football team.

We've eaten the proof pudding though now thanks.

i'd give usa a rank of 15-20, nothing better though

Well out of the best in the world that are purportedly in Germany at the minute they are somewhere between 24th and 32nd. Though if we count the point they scored 24th to 26th?

And same here. I'm not going to argue that their rank is more than they deserved. I'm just saying that a lot of people think the Americans are pure shit players when that's not 100% true, either. We're decent, I'd say. Not top class, but not shitty, either. That's basically the point I'm trying to get across.
