I understand that the history between our countries will undoubtably give rivalry and banter between our two countries, but why are the Scottish so hostile about it?

I go up to scotland on a regular basis and I love the country, but a lot of people can be narrow minded about sport. You don't just want us to lose, you would be happy if our team coach exploded.

Also, if you come down to England in a Scotland shirt the worse you'll get is a bit of banter down a pub or someone chanting 'England' at you. But when it's the other way round, you get treated like shit. I was in Dundee wearing my Rooney shirt and people in the shops wern't saying thank you, I got a countless number of evils from members of the public and one person even stuck their middle finger up from a passing car.

It's not only me either, you look at the news and it's happening to others. A kid of 7 got punched for wearing an England shirt aswell as his dad. Plus a disabled man got dragged out his car and beaten up for having an England flag on his car while in Scotland.

Seriously guys? Why are you so hostile to us? I can only boil it down to jelousy and/or pure hatred towards the people that pile more money into their economy than their own people.

Read your history and you will know, and no scot is jealous of an Englishman, we have it better here, students come to scotland which gives them more support and cheaper university fees, elderly come here because of the freebies they get, everything here is better, we have the things we need without all the people of london AND the threats, noone would blow up scotland while london and manchester exist buddy.

Most migrants don't come here, they goto england, so we have jobs, we are pretty much migrant free, we don't have our water cut off nor do we have crazy temperatures like 30 degrees C + in scotland unlike in england.

I never said I didn't like the country, that's why we have a home up near St Andrews.

I admit that migration is a problem, a big problem, but that's what you get when you have a dick head in power running it. But, since when have we ever complained about the heat (which is only about 3 weeks worth a year)? Last I heard, the majority of people enjoy the sun and summer weather.

The reason we have the risks and the bad reputation is because were are one of the biggest powers in the world. What you're forgetting is that the St Georges cross gets the blame for what really is the UK. Remember it's your soldiers, your tax payers, your voters and your polititions that are involved in these wars aswell. But people just tend to blame the English because it's easier and most people do anyway so they just jump on the band wagon.

It's not intimidation, it's patriotism. You know, that thing that makes most people do brave things for their country. The reason we wear our shirts and fly our flags is in support of our players and soldiers in the World Cup and In the Army, not because we are trying to dig up a 500 year old grudge.

Hooliganism abroad is something that's been around for a long time and don't just look at the English. What I'm trying to point out, is that Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England are a United Kingdom. Like I said, there's always going to be banter and jokes between us, but why are people taking it to a personal level up there? Our dark history dates back to the medieval times, Scotland should learn to move on and work together on a personality level, not just a political level.

I fail to see why the history of the English makes them so hated though, yes it was bloody and brutal but then, name a country which doesn't have such a history. Presumably the main source of Scottish dislike is centered around Edward I who was a complete bastard but to hold a grudge for roughly 700 years is a little over the top. That said I've never had any problems in my many trips up to Scotland, mostly to Edinburgh with a couple to Aberdeen and St Andrews although I think I have a fairly Scottish sounding name which probably helps. Incidently I'm going to be one of those students as well.

As for the other comment I've quoted, It wouldn't make any difference because it wouldn't be distinguished. The average Iraqi probably wouldn't do anything anyway and the insurgents would kill you either way, incidently they might not even recognise the two flags anyway. In my experience very few people distinguish the different sections of Britain regardless of whether you're Scottish, English or Welsh, they do however tend to be able to with the Northern Irish.

No, it's not patriotism, if it was patriotism people would be putting the flags up all the time or at least during national days (St Geroge's day) but very few people do. Supporting a national football team or any other national sports team is not patriotism, it's pseudo patriotism and it's extremely annoying and, quite frankly pathetic to claim it as true patriotism. It amazes me really that people even feel that they have to justify it in that way.
