i've always watched the US in world cup action since '94 but this world cup has turned me into a huge football fan. I would like to follow football more than just once evey 4 years. The MLS sucks so I'm not really considering that as an option so I've set my sights on finding a premier league team to become a fan of. Since I live in the US i really have no geographical ties to any particular team so i am open to suggestions as to what team i should back. please make your case for why i should be a fan of your team.

My favorite team to follow is the Country of Nagorno-Karabakh. My hermit crab was born there, as said by my Veternarian, so I have grown to love the region dearly.
The Soccer team consists of about 14 midgets. They speak Armenian. They live in the captial city of Stepanakert.
Check it out!

What about Tottenham Hotspur? They're the third club from London, they finished fifth this season, but they are aiming for Champions League football. They have a pretty young team with talents like Defoe, Carrick, Ledley King, but they also have some more experienced players like Robbie Keane, Robinson and Davids (yes, the big one, played for Ajax, Inter, Juventus, Milan and Barcelona). Dick Jol said he is aiming to have a serious shot at the title in about four years, and he's working up to that. This all means you would be a fan of relatively small club, but still heading for glory and soon they'll even be playing Champions League football...

Or you can always just follow the league, without choosing one particular team.
Tottenham Hotspurs are a nice team to follow, a few good players and lots of potential to grow. Also, make sure to follow the Champions League, it's probably the best competition in the world with all the top teams from all across europa. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munchen, Olympique Lyon, are all there, along with all the other big clubs and some smaller ones.:dunce:

it would easier looking out for Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal or Liverpool.
these been the biggest clubs it would be easier to follow them because of media coverage, plus they're in the Champoins league.
check this site out too http://www.premierleague.com/fapl.rac?command=forwardOnly&nextPage=homepage

I would have told you to go with the team I support, Manchester United. But you dont want to go there so Id say just watch as much premiership as possible and decide on your own team.

Hey mate look no further than the all conquering Liverpool FC.
Man U fans will argue THEY are the biggest team in the country but they are only famous for a plane crash in the 1950s.
Liverpool are the real big guns from England, we are the most succesful club in Britain and if you look at European honours we are the 3rd most successful club in Europe after Real Madrid and AC Milan.
There is so much tradition at Liverpool and the atmosphere at Anfield on match day is second to none.
Thats what pisses Man U fans off, they know that 45,000 Liverpool fans make more noise and are more passionate than 75,000 Manc twats at Old Toilet.
If you dont like the idea of supporting a huge team like Liverpool bcoz you might be accused of being a "Glory hunter" you could always try West Ham or Manchester City.
West Ham are a small London club with a long tradition of attacking sides who arent feared of playing the big boys, they play with heart and I have always said if I was born in London I'd be a West Ham fan bcoz they always play good football and when I was a kid they had great players like Tony Cottee.
Manchester City are the best team in Manchester, they are a big club who cant seem to find the right ingrediant to make them challenge for honours but again they play some realy good positive football and have some of the best fans in the country, they were relegated 2 years in a row in the 1990s and ended up in the old 3rd division playing teams like Mac Town but their fans stuck by them and still used to fill Maine Road for their home games.

This doesn't make sense as Owned didn't make any serious spelling mistakes (grammer isn't all that, but you can't have it all) and neither does he comment on other people's spelling.

Look out for Everton next season, I think they should be contenders for Europe. To be honest though, just watch as much Premiership football as possible and I'm sure you will find a team that you want to follow.

If I was going to tell someone to support a Premiership club it would be Tottenham by a country mile. They have a good squad that is becoming one of the best and the only reason they didn't get into the CL this year was because of fodd poisoning under very dodgy circumstances.

fuck it...go with Liverpool, or Arsenal. both 2 of the biggest clubs in the world and are going for the title next season.
Tottenham are ok but you want a team you can see play in the Champions league.

I disagree after seeing Middlesbrough last season. Their games eclipsed the vast majority (maybe all) of the CL games. Noone can deny the later results were awe inspiring. However that was one club and I would rather watch CL over UEFA most of the time.

You're looking at a fine FC Barcelona bandwaggoner right here :)

Premiership - 3 teams with lowest points is relegated
Championship- 3 teams with highest points is promoted
works the same way for all the divs

Aside from all the corruption and match fixing. I'd say Premiership is higher than Serie A.

In the Championship, the champion is promoted automatically. The number 2 - 5 have to play each other to decide who promotes; looks like this (I think)
number 2 vs number 4
number 3 vs number 5
(play each other two times)
final with the two winners (one game, at least that's what I think)
That's about how it is I think, correct me if I'm wrong:ahhh:

I think you are misunderstanding something here, dude.
I will try to explain:
(nearly) every country in Europe has got it's own football league.
Those leagues are of course not all exactly the same in their structure, in smaller countries there are less teams and in bigger countries there are more teams playing in one league.
The different European leagues also differ a lot in the quality of the playing teams: in terms of number of spectators, amount of world class players and turnover earned, the top leagues of Europe are:
- The Premiership league of England
- The Serie A of Italy
- The Primera Division from Spain
- The Bundesliga from Germany
but there are also leagues like the Ehrendivisie from the Netherlands, the Portuguese league and the Ligue 1 from France, which are not as good as the afore mentioned, but still contain several very entertaining teams/players.
In these leagues, every team plays against all other teams from the league 2 times: 1 time in their home stadium, and one time in the opponents stadium.
After all the games are played, the team with most points is the champion.
Now, the teams of Europe don't only want to play against teams from their own country, but also want to find out who is best in whole Europe.
To determine that, there are competitions like the Championsleague which include the best teams from all over Europe.
To be allowed to play in the Championsleague, you have to be one of the best teams from your domestic leagues(= you have to enter one of the top spots in that league).
The Championsleague contains:
-the best 2-4 teams from England
-The best 2-4 teams from Italy
-the best 2-4 teams from Spain
-the best 2-3 teams from Germany
and several other teams from smaller European leagues, so it's alltogether 32 teams playing in the Championsleague.
Teams like Barcelona, Arsenal, Bayern etc. play in their domestic league (= the league of the country where their stadium is placed) and in the Championsleague (=international league for the best teams from all over Europe) at the same time.
There are a lot of other competitions as well, but I don't want to confuse you too much :P

Englands Premiership. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FA_Premier_League)
Spain's La Liga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Liga)
Italy's Serie A (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serie_A)
Germany's Bundesliga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bundesliga)
These are the four main leagues of Europe, of course each all have lower divisions inwhich teams are promoted to and from depending on how well they do during a season.
There are also many more European leagues that have many talented teams and players, including France, Holland and Portugal.
All the leagues work in a similar format and have lower level leagues.
Only the top teams from the top leagues advance to the european competitions, the better ones play in the champions league and the teams normally place in 5th 6th and 7th in their respective league go on to play the UEFA cup. The higher ranked leagues like Spain and Italy get 4 qualifying spots in the champions league and lesser ranked leagues like Turkey and Russia only get 1 or 2.
Champions league (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Champions_League)
Uefa cup (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Cup)
My suggestion for a team to follow should you choose the premiership would be Westham or Tottenham.
Should you want any further info on the leagues or teams, just have a quick google, theres lots of info out there.

The discussion about who has more English players is pretty laughable in my eyes anyways, as all of the top teams from the premier league consist of at least 85% foreigners.
What's the point when a Chelsea fan is making fun out of an Arsenal fan because in his team there are 2 English regular starters and in Arsenal only 1?

Not to take this down to a racial level, but do Arsenal have any white English players in their team?
