View Full Version : Netherlands vs Portugal

Portugal is leading 1-0 (Maniche 25')

We're past the 60th minute and it's getting ugly. The referees are too quick with the yellow cards like Beckenbauer mentioned early in the tournament.

The Netherlands has had many opportunities in the second half but aren't getting lucky.

Lol, if it keeps going like this than the game will be called off due to lack of players on the field :)

Its still 1-0 at 74 mins and it looks like fights are breaking out or something. Ive seen trouble caused over one portugal player being elbowed in the face and another which I didnt see, I just saw a lot of pushing and shoving after the foul took place. Even the goalie was up there shouting at people.
As I was typing this another player has been taken down.
Edit: Another red card. Haha this is good for England, the teams will have no players left for the next match.

Portugal advances. Too bad they won't have Deco for the next round.

And that Russian referee, I am sure that will be his last World Cup game.

I think Decos sending off will be recinded because he never even did anything, he got thrown over. I love that ref, he booked most of the players and sent off 4 :)

they said that about that jorge guy that reffed us - italy, he came back for the france - togo game and got praise from fifa so who knows....

and the dutch blew about 50 scoring chances in the last 10 minutes of that game

I make a point of not commenting on the referee's but Ivanov's done it. That was the most shittiest referee ever. In Holland we had one like that, saw a lot, often more than there was to see. He fucked up Ajax-Vitesse and got his ass demoted to the amateurs. This guy fucks up France-Swiss and they give him a bloody gold star and a pat on the shoulder! This is fucking impossible, I've got the feeling he kept handing out yellow cards, so he would atleast get one or two right! He got Portugal the quarterfinals and they didn't even have to bloody bribe him!

That was quite an epic.

I think it's a bit hard for the ref in that sort of match,

Yes, and to be honest, I think two of those were definitely reds. Maybe 3 at a stretch.

JuliaAguilar

Wow, that was quite a heated match. I'm willing to bet that if the Netherlands were to have come back at the hands of the ref (let's say, a penalty kick to tie it and a bad call resulting in a free kick to go ahead) there would have been a riot to take care of.

Never seen so many cards before ... damn.

The referee was definitely poor. Both teams showed very little sportsmanship...the players were diving all over the field and pushing and shoving each other. Let's hope the game gets cleaned up in future matches, or this World Cup may be tarnished before the champion is even crowned.

And I always it was some Dutch imature big-brothercomplex. But now I realise we all hate germans because they just deserve it ;)

And for our fellow haters of Germany: another reason to hate Germans and a translation at the same time:

Without Holland we drive (go?) to Berlin

You can drive (go?) home.

Goodbye.

That was the greatest game ever in a negative way. I laughing myself silly thoughout the 2nd half, players were flying 20 yards left, right and centre.

So Portugal are without Deco, some half cast guy, Figo and maybe the cry baby Ronaldo.

Maybe we could stick James in net...

Sherlock
06-25-2006, 07:24 PM
Although there were a lot of genuine fouls with intention to hurt the player, a lot of them were the players on the recieving end diving to try and get a free kick or the other team yellow carded. Which they succeeded in doing a lot of the time.

Willie
06-25-2006, 08:23 PM
What i don't understand is, out of all those cards, that jackass who gave the guy a headbutt after play was stopped didn't get red carded, and got off with a yellow... lame.

At the end of the game they were showing all the little fights and shit like that which happened, and I saw one guy just flat out drop kick some dude in the jaw. I was like "WTF, why didn't they show this during the game?". It was pretty funny, quite an entertaining game aswell.

JuliaAguilar
06-26-2006, 03:05 AM
They showed that - the replay - but the ref didn't call it. It should have been a card - I think even a penalty kick.

MrDeliquent85
06-26-2006, 04:54 AM
The ref set the standard early on and he couldnt go back on that, the players knew he would have to be consistent after that. Going on the way they did wasnt going to do them any favours with a dodgy ref who made it clear he was going to be harsh from the outset. Everyone diving in, crowding up and pushing each other was getting them nowhere.

All in all I am happy as an Englishman. Deco and Costinha will miss the next game, Ronaldo a possible injury doubt and with the chance Figo could be banned, England couldn't have had a better day.

Quiet_Riot
06-26-2006, 09:00 AM
Figo is cleared to play, he got a yellow for the headbutt, i assume the linesman told the ref, because he definitely didnt see it. And FIFA can't retrospectively upgrade the yellow to a red, so Figo, unfortunately, will play.

Lol, the English depend on injuries of the opponents best players to beat Portugal.
How poor is that?

Actually, we Germans don't tease the Dutch because we hate them, we tease them only because we know how angry they get about it.

Dude, there's one difference between football and war for Germany:

In football, we don't have to play 15 teams at the same time.

Well, it was an entertaining game,

And fucking Van Basten, he didn't send Van Nistelrooy in...

Henkie
06-26-2006, 11:34 AM
It was a pity, but understandable. Ruud had been playing poorly the last couple of matches, so I see why Kuyt could start. Then he couldn't use him as a substitute, because the substitution was logically a defender for a midfielder (Portugal had inderictly lost an attacker to a red card), then, when Bhoularouz got the red card he needed an extra defender so he could only bring in one extra attacker and he chose for the tall Vennegoor. If he hadn't needed to bring in Heitinga van Nistelrooij would've made an appearance.

Its not poor, but would your rather have in your next game, Argentina or USA ?

You'd choose the USA, cause they're the poorer team, don't come to me with that shit. While everyone wants to beat the best to be champions, everyone would prefer the easier route, especially while still looking for form.

When did I say I depended on it, they'd just help the cause while England look for form and I still expect England to progress whether Deco's red card is rescinded or not or whether Ronaldo makes it or not.

I'm not saying he doesn't influence the game with his bad calls, that'ld be stupid. Every call he makes, good or bad, influences the game, sometimes in favour of the one team, sometimes in favour of the other team. That's what referees do, they influence the game. And as referees are only human, they make bad calls, and thereby give the 'wrong' team an advantage. That's what refereeing is all about. Big refereeing mistakes are an inherent consequence of playing football. It will happen and nobody can help it, so don't whine about it.

Hypocrite much?

MrDeliquent85
06-26-2006, 12:38 PM
The refering was bad but he isnt just to blame, the players of both teams were just as bad. They all piled up on more than one occassion and more than four players were like Hollywood actors, then you had what seemed to be alot of bad blood with heads, feet and hands been throw at each other.

Yes, but who isn't? And I like to add this wasn't a bad referee because he saw things wrongly, but because he saw things right and still decided to make the wrong decisions. There's a big difference.
