While Michael Ballack, Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski have grabbed all the headlines in the press, the two central defenders have been the unsung heroes as they strive to give Klinsmann's side the stability it requires. The question is can the German defence stop the efficent and clinical Argentinian offence?


(a review of the teams’ shots at goal provides a minor surprise: the Germans have required 78 attempts, 38 of them on target, to record their ten goals, almost twice as many as Argentina, who have the same number of goals from 41 attempts, 21 of them on target)

As long as the German defence stays in form, they cannot be beaten.

Predictions? This is going to be the best game of the World Cup.

Yes, Argentina's big threat is that they are too effective, but a team that likes to posses the ball really hurts them... Mexico showed that.

Germany won't have too much trouble accomplishing that. However, Argentina will play at its 100% this time, so, I predict this will be a great game with extra times.

Germany is going to win 3 - 2.

It it's going to be close and a great fucking game. Judging by the form of the teams, I think Germany has a slight advantage.

Okay, so now we go to overtime ... I'm thinking Argentina's going to choke. They're still tired from last week's overtime game with Mexico, and it's starting to show in their playing. I'm betting due to just exhaustion Argentina will not be able to win this one.

I hate Argentina, I will laugh as they walk their losing asses off the field. :lol:

I called it during qualifiers, Germany is going to win the World Cup. I wasn't sure with time winding down in the second quarter, but then they scored. I just finished watching the celebration.

People around here tell me: "no, you should root for Argentina and Brazil, they are latinamericans"... I just tell them "nah, fuck it. I like Italy, Germany and Netherlands (already kicked out) better than those two"...

I don't mind Brazil so much, I guess, but I just hate how much the Argentinians are big fucking babies. They really piss me off. And right now I'm not really sure who to cheer for, but now that Argentina's gone I really don't much care who wins, I'll just watch for the exciting matches.

It was win-win for us(english) today, we don't like either team in terms of football so either could have gone for all I care. Argentina have been the better side during the whole cup but Germany deserved the win.

I am looking forward to Italy - Germany.

The coolest goal to me was when Agrentina threw it in and whats his name used his head to get it in the goal and score. Yea the reason i don't know his name is because i just started watching soccer.

I wanted Germany to win. If England go out then Germany will be the only team that is left that don't constantly dive. I have no problem with Germany winning it as long as it isn't against us.

Only time will tell, we have a team capable of it. If we get to the semi's and so do Brazil (France wont be a walk over despite what people think) if we can keep Ronaldinho and Kaka quiet, we have quite a good chnace.

I think that England has done a very poor job so far at forging a good team out of the really great players they have. If they get their shit together they can beat Brazil, but not if they keep playing as they have.
