View Full Version : The best Kevin Smith Movie, (Before Jersey Girl)

He should of never stopped using Jay and silent bob. That was his gold mine for his movies. It was his trademark no matter what movie he made. Jersey girl sucked. Should of kept Jay and silent Bob. So there's 5 Kevin Smith movies that were the best back then.
I choose Mallrats because Jason biggs is just hilarious in that. And you see him meet up with Stan Lee. It's a good movie and jay and silent bob are hilarious in there also. It's use of star wars and batman.
What do you choose?

Clerks was best. Mallrats was good because of Jason LEE, Lee pwns.
Chasing Amy was pretty good... just their lack of budget really made the film suffer.
Dogma was really good, probably my second fave, however, a lot of people didn't like it.
JASBSB was ok. The story was stupid, but funny.
I'm glad Kevin Smith put Jay and Silent Bob on hiatus, they were tired characters. When they return, it will make it much better. (Or the direct to DVD Clerks animated movie being made!!!)

Good thread. Mallrats was definitely great, but I gotta go with the one that started it all, Clerks. Movies like that only come along once in a while.

Kevin Smith said on the DVD "An Evening With Kevin Smith" he was going to stop using Jay and Silent Bob because he didnt want to overuse the characters and have them be boring. Jay was in the middle of his drug addiction. Smith also said they have to put a shitload of makeup on Mewes for a scene cause without it he looks like a 50 year old man. I'm sure when and Silent bob come back it's going to be a awesome return.
My favorite movie of his would have to be DOGMA.

As incentive for Jay to drop his herion addiction, he said if Jay quit successfully for a few years (I forget the exact number) he'll make another Jay and Bob movie, as Mewes loves doing them.
Kev said this when he came to Toronto a few months back, plus I think it's been on the newsaskew site.

I have to say that Clerks is the best, its classic, the low budget only makes it better. Chasing amy is good, cuz of all the making out of the two chics, Dogma, selma heyak, Mallrats is amazingly funny, the sailboat picture is awesome...Little kid: its a scooner ............:fat guy: you dumb bastard, its not a scooner, its a sail boat......... little girl :a scooner is a sail boat stupid head........and JASBSB is awesome for many reasons

I see that no one chose Chasing Amy. I didn't like that movie too much anyway. It was kinda stupid how the story was developed.

kevin smith IS in vulgar.
he also helped with character development.
did ya'all even WATCH clerks?
vulgar the clown opens the movie (in cartoon format)
as for the best of the movies, chasing amy, for sure.
it's the one smith put the most of himself into.
clerks, where it is a fantastic movie, is just barely second, then dogma, then strike back, and lastly, mallrats...
mallrats is the most evil of all the smith flicks.....
but i would still love to fuck shannen dougherty someplaces rather uncomfortable, and i don't care if it happens to be the backseat of a volkswagon....

Kevin Smith's first couple films like Clerks and Mallrats were good, but my fav is Dogma, it had an awesome cast (all the originals) plus Chris Rock, Selma Hayek, Matt Damon, etc. Plus the entire plot was really fucking cool

I've always loved his flicks, but the best is the first...Clerks. The dialogue in Clerks was by far the most provocative, and Jay and Silent Bob had an edge to them that got a bit softer in the latter movies.
about the whole jersey girl thing, i loved it it was hillarious.. good god imagine it rated R whew... it would have done better with jay and silent bob, but kevin smith didnt have them in the movie because jay is now or at the time was a heroin addict, he says that he will work with him when he's sober.. i about cried when i heard it :(

I need to see most of these movies . . . I've only seen the Jay and Silent Bob movie and hated it. I do wanna see Clerks though.
Is Mallrats the one where he wipes his ass with his hand?

ok, it's no wonder you hated it, ebcause jasbsb is only part of a movie.
all of the character development for the core characters takes place in the other movies.
it makes no sense to see it without seeing the rest, since all it is is references to the other movies.

Clerks, Mallrats, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back are the cream of the crop.
I am gonna have to go with Dogma on this one...but this is a great thread...Dogma was just overall too hilarious...the shit demon is so great...anyways...I actually know someone who was going to Narcotics Anonymous classes with Jason Mewes...she said he would pop in every now and again...said he looked a lot different without makeup on

Kevin Smith is my God.
I have to go for Mallrats, funny as hell, great characters (Brody rules and you know it), great lines, and stupid plot... what else could a film go'er want?
