England vs. Portugal game tomorrow at 11pm, should be great. Remember Portugal beat England in the Euro cup in 04’ and 00’ and IMO have more then enough skill and potential to pull a clean victory to England. Actually England has been playing like shit recently, especially against Ecuador. If they do not get back in shape they will be slaughtered.

Deco and Costinha are suspended and will not be playing for Portugal but I read that Ronaldo will be fit for the game which is great. It will take a lot away from the midfield but I feel Portugal will still prosper with a 2-0 win.

Anyone else have some thoughts?

I had picked Portugal in another thread, by way of penalties. I had the game being tied at 2 - 2, not nil - nil. I was rooting for Portugal, but a few of their players pissed me off with their faked injuries/dives. Though Rooney screwed it up for England with kicking the guy in the nuts. Now, to make my day complete, France should win over Brazil and I will sleep happy.

Do you hear in the media that Scotland are going to win? Do you see Scotland being put 2nd favourites to win?

I've said it many times before: Scotland are a bad team. I don't think I've ever seen anyone claim to be better than England, or be anything more than amateur footballers. Every time I come in the sports section I always see you in every England thread bashing England in one way or another. Scottish and Irish people like you are more annoying than our own media.

Oh and Go to any other country and England wern't the second favourites to win the World Cup. Also, only a minority of outright bets were put on England, the main ones were Brazil, Germany and Argentina. I should know, I work in a bookies.

You've still got this ignorant view of English people that you get from the media. It's like me believing that Hollywood protrays an acurate image of america. It's stupid cynical arrogance.

So stop covering up your cocky bitchy arses by saying "at least we're in it".Well, it's a pretty strong argument if you ask me.

You don't seem to understand, I'm not bashing the England team. If you read my comments in the threads you would see that I think England are a very good team, but have excellent potential. What you will also see is that I'm not "bashing" anyone. People claimed England were gonna win, I said they weren't, I was right.

Well, it's a pretty strong argument if you ask me.

You don't get the point, we ADMIT that we are a shit team. You don't admit that you are not the best team. Look around those threads if you like.

He dived like a gayboy and influenced the ref big time on Rooneys sending off.

I actually think Rooney's heel to that guy's nutsack had more to do with his send off then Ronaldo...my opinion though... ;)

Watch the highlights again, the ref signalled for a freekick until Rooney pushed Ronaldo, I'm not blaming Ronaldo but when has pushing been a red card.

I understand what your saying but watch it again. The ref clearly steps in and holds his arm out signalling a freekick for Portugal, he stands still and doesnt even look in Rooneys direction, he's looking at the floor. I shouldnt assume but when most refs get to this point that usually means "I've made my decision its a freekick that way and I dont want to hear anything else about it". Rooney then pushes a protesting Ronaldo and as the ref looks up he catches the tail end of the incident. He then runs out from where he was standing and signals for Rooney to come over, red card.

Normally refs whip cards straight from the pockets, he didnt even reach for his pocket after "the stamp", so had nothing happened after that, Rooney probably wouldnt have even getting a card, not even a yellow.

Obviously I assumed on one or two things there but after many viewings of the video, in my opinion, that look to be the case.

OK, I saw the nut stomp but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and signal the free kick, hopefully the game will continue fairly quickly and we can get passed it. Ok, now Ronaldo is complaining, he plainly saw the nut stomp. OK, now Rooney is pushing people and making an ass out of himself, time to card him.

At that point Ronaldo wasn't intimidating Rooney, therefore the violence from Rooney was unprovoked.

But in that case I'm not saying it was provoked, I'm saying it wasn't violent enough to be a red card. The two actions can't be compared! I'm not saying Ronaldo is a nice guy, he's a dirty bastard, but he's a clever dirty bastard and Rooney isn't. That's why all the fouls Ronaldo commited were either within the limits of decency or out of sight. Kicking someone in the crotch while the referee is standing right next to it is just not very smart, besides very nasty.

At the end of the day it doesnt matter about Ronaldo's ref bating or Rooney's bollox stepping.

England didnt turn up for this world cup and for that Im making no excuses.

Im angry... I wasnt even upset when we crashed out bcoz we didnt deserve to be in the world cup, we played so bad from first game to last one.

The players should be ashamed of themselves, they have let millions of people down who genuinley and rightly so believed we could go all the way.

The way England played was disgraceful, we have some of the best players in the world who are paid astronomical amounts of money at our disposal and they just didnt look interested, they didnt play.

If you gave our players to a country like Sweden or Ghana who actualy understand tactics and the importance of working as a team they would win the world cup without breaking sweat.

England put up a good fight in the end against Portugal with 10 men but as soon as it went to penalties we all knew we were out, England is jinxed when it comes to penalties, I think thats 5 out of 6 major tournaments in a row we have crashed out on penalty shoot-outs.

I'm not trying to be argumentative here and I do agree greatly with some of your points, they put up a good fight , etc. But at the same time I can't help but call out that I think you are being too much of a "Homer" here. I watched every minute of every game England played, and they played their hearts out. They overacheived. It's not their fault millions of people are let down, it's the millions of people who expected them to win it all who are at fault. Your scorers have an obvious inability to finish plays, Beckham's defense and passing skills are suspect, Rooney tries to do too much and is a hot head, etc. etc. I'm only pointing these things out to show that, even with these things, they made it to the quarters.

I think England should be proud of their team for overacheiving and making it farther then their skills should have allowed. You see 11+ guys who weren't interested, I saw 11+ guys who left everything they had out on that field and gave all for their country. But hey, that's just my opinion.

Yeah, granted. You guys obviously know much more about these guys then I do, I won't even begin to argue that. But they played so consistently for, what, 6 games or something? I mean, this is the world cup, this isn't the premiership. I can't talk about how great Landon Donovan plays week in and week out in the MLS. Obviously MLS isn't even comparable to the Premiership as far as skill levels go, but still, any league play doesn't compare to the WC. But like I said, you definitely know more about them then I do. It just seemed to me like they played as well as they could, maybe the didn't though, like you say.

I think maybe one of the reasons you, and probably many others thought England played well and consitently, is the fact that you haven't seen a lot of Premiership action. All but 2 of our squad play their football in England, and maybe the English fans were a lot more expectant because of what we see every week for 9 months of the year. :)

Seems like English players play better when they are supported by 8-9 foreigners.
